This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rise of Asia and the dynamics of Asian economic development have impacted global trade relationships and regional cooperation tremendously. While the WTO integrating national economies into global trade regulations has further liberalized trade relationships between developed and developing nations and amongst the emerging economies in particular in Asia, proliferation of free trade agreements in Asia has raised growing concerns regarding the fragmentation of the world economic order. World-renowned experts have here answered a variety of trade related issues ranging from China’s free trade agreements in its neighbourhood, the Tripartite Relationship between China, Japan and Korea, the Trans-Pacific Economic Partnership, the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation as well human rights and environmental implications of free trade agreements. Rizwanul Islam, Kwangkug Kim, Qingjiang Kong, Yong-Shik Lee, Wei Liang, Kuei-Jung Ni, Delei Peng, Yasuhei Taniguchi, Kim Van der Borght, Matthias Vanhullebusch, and Richard N. Watanabe, Shengxing Yu

Book The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights

Download or read book The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights written by Hsien-Li Tan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-07-07 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This assessment of progress in Southeast Asia on human rights begins in the wake of the 'Asian values' debate and culminates in the formal regional institutionalisation of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR). Chapters examine the arduous negotiation of AICHR, the evolving relationship between ASEAN states' and the international human rights system, and the historical and experiential reasons for hesitancy. The text concludes with a discussion of how the evolving right to development impacts upon AICHR and international human rights in general, and how their preference for economic, social and development rights could help ASEAN states shape the debate.

Book Facing Asia Japan s Role in the Political and Economic Dynamism of Regional Cooperation

Download or read book Facing Asia Japan s Role in the Political and Economic Dynamism of Regional Cooperation written by Blechinger, Verena and published by IUDICIUM Verlag. This book was released on 2000-05-04 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Facing Asia examines the political and economic processes of regionalism and regionalization in Asia with a focus on Japan and Japanese actors. The articles by eminent scholars address the forces that tie the region together. They treat topics ranging from Japanese bilateral and multilateral ODA and the activities of state and non-state actors on the regional level to issues such as Japanese multinational corporations, foreign direct investment in Asia, and regional financial institutions. Methodologically, the authors draw on disciplinary strengths in either the social sciences or economics while organizing their treatment around a shared political-economic perspective. By looking at Asia through an interdisciplinary lens, the volume offers something to anyone interested in Japanese involvement in the politics and economics of the region. In the final chapter, the editors weave together the different approaches to Japan's place in Asian regional cooperation in the 1990s and beyond.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses the challenges to Asian cooperation from the points of view of political, economic, and sociological disciplines. It approaches the issue of cooperation from different levels: national, bilateral, and regional. The chapters in this volume were selected from among the papers presented during the February 2004 Ateneo Center for Asian Studies conference entitled Asian Cooperation: Problems and Challenges in the New Century. Asia in the twenty-first century faces the challenge of better economic integration. Asian countries have to deal with old and new forms of violations of human rights. As part of the shrinking world, Asia has to tackle the problem of sustainable development. It has to think of ways and means to cooperate with international efforts to save the earth. While the region is relatively more peaceful now than in the century that has just passed, flash points continue to be worrisome in the South China Sea, the Taiwan Straits, and the Korean Peninsula, not to mention the continuing threats of international terrorism. Moreover, there are issues of democratization that each Asian country has to deal with. These concerns are but some of the many major challenges confronting the region. The problems are as numerous as the states that comprise the region, their impact going beyond its boundaries. But the prospects of working together to understand the problems, if not to really solve them, are just as great.
