Download or read book Regional Aspects of Canada s Economic Growth written by Alan G. Green and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1971-12-15 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regional disparities in income have been an important part of the growth of experience of most nation states. Canada is no exception. In a large country, thinly populated and having a wide diversity of resources, cultures, and locational advantages, it is only natural to expect the existence of dissimilar levels of economic performance. In fact, just this diversity of physical and human backgrounds has often provided the primary thrust for variations in natural economic growth. If, therefore, a better understanding of national development is to be obtained, some attention to the growth experience of the subnational units is imperative. This study aims at widening our understanding of the Canadian growth process by focusing on the relationship between regional and national changes since the last decade of the nineteenth century.

The book will be useful to all economic historians, as well as quantitative historians, applied economists, historical demographers, business historians, national income accountants, and social historians.

Download or read book The Economic Development of Canada written by Richard Pomfret and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2005. The aim of this book is to provide an introduction to and interpretation of the development of the Canadian economy since European settlement. The main contrast between the book’s view and previous interpretations of Canada’s economic past is that, instead of emphasizing the continuity of Canadian economic development (with staple exports playing the leading role), the focus is on the transition from the sparsely populated colonial economy of the early nineteenth century to the modern economy ranking among the seven largest market economies whose leaders now meet for economic summits.

Download or read book The Evolution and Determinants of Wealth Inequality in the North Atlantic Anglo Sphere 1668 2013 written by Livio Di Matteo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-16 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on wealth inequality trends in the North Atlantic Anglo-sphere countries of Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States over the period from 1668 to 2013: a wider perspective than generally used when wealth inequality is discussed. This book demonstrates that it is important to put current dimensions of wealth inequality into historical context by looking at performance over the long run rather than simply a few decades. Moreover, this contribution compiles a substantial amount of data on estimates of wealth inequality and provides a concise overview of trends as well as the drivers of inequality over the long term. It serves as a short supplementary text for economics and sociology courses on economic inequality, economic history and social change—while remaining of interest to scholars and policymakers invested in equality debates of the past and present.
