Download or read book Narrating Motherhood s Breaking the Silence written by Silvia Caporale-Bizzini and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feminist theory on motherhood has successfully transformed mothers into subjects of their own discourse, recognized the historical, heterogeneous and socially constructed origins of their life experience while, at the same time, widening our understanding of the notion of mothering. This collection combines a literary and a wider cultural perspective from which to look at the topic of the representation of other or forgotten motherhoods. Mothers who have been forced to live exiled and away from their children, women who after trying to conceive, get pregnant but discover they cannot bear to become mothers, or even literary characters based on an autobiographical experience of a sexually abusive mother. The essays critically point out how writing becomes a tool to think and write about the many aspects of motherhood such as an idealized maternal experience versus the real one or the accepted stereotypes of the good mother and the bad mother.

Download or read book Abortion and Democracy written by Barbara Sutton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-05 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abortion and Democracy offers critical analyses of abortion politics in Latin America’s Southern Cone, with lessons and insights of wider significance. Drawing on the region’s recent history of military dictatorship and democratic transition, this edited volume explores how abortion rights demands fit with current democratic agendas. With a focus on Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, the book’s contributors delve into the complex reality of abortion through the examination of the discourses, strategies, successes, and challenges of abortion rights movements. Assembling a multiplicity of voices and experiences, the contributions illuminate key dimensions of abortion rights struggles: health aspects, litigation efforts, legislative debates, party politics, digital strategies, grassroots mobilization, coalition-building, affective and artistic components, and movement-countermovement dynamics. The book takes an approach that is sensitive to social inequalities and to the transnational aspects of abortion rights struggles in each country. It bridges different scales of analysis, from abortion experiences at the micro level of the clinic or the home to the macro sociopolitical and cultural forces that shape individual lives. This is an important intervention suitable for students and scholars of abortion politics, democracy in Latin America, gender and sexuality, and women’s rights.

Download or read book El Cuerpo un Espacio Pedag Gico written by Norma Delia Dur N. Amavizca and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Deep into the Labyrinths in the Novels by Louise Welsh written by Eduardo García and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-14 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deep into the Labyrinths in the Novels by Louise Welsh is the first book to focus on the novels of Louise Welsh, one of the most acclaimed and interesting narrative voices in contemporary Scottish Literature. It explores the use of the image of the labyrinth as one of the sites for horror in classic Gothic literature and its rewriting into a contemporary gothic labyrinth in 21st century Scotland – and, by extension, in the European context – that co-exists with various other queer and intertextual labyrinths that complement and complicate it.This book analyses how Louise Welsh’s novels present different labyrinths that characters traverse and get lost in, and, by the same process, with which readers also become engaged. In both cases, characters and readers discover that the labyrinthine understanding of reality becomes more real than any other official version of reality. Each chapter of the book explores particular examples of these labyrinths, even though they are not linear: they tend to intermingle and intertwine.

Download or read book Intermittences written by Ana Forcinito and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2019-01-09 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction of memory entails a battle not only between memory and forgetting but also between different memories. There are multiple constructions of memory, and in the dispute between them, some become hegemonic, while others remain in the margins. Ana Forcinito explores the intermittences of transitional justice and memory in post-dictatorship Uruguay. The processes of building memory and transitional justice are repetitive but inconstant. They are contested by both internal and external forces and shaped by tensions between oblivion and silence. Forcinito explores models of reconciliation to present an alternative narrative of the past and to expose the blind spots of memory.

Download or read book Fresas Amargas written by JoaquÍN De La Gala PÉRez and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-09 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
