Book excerpt: Given the current era of global turmoil and strained relations between peoples of diverse national and cultural origins, there has never been a greater need for intercultural education than there is today. This edited volume is in honour of Jagdish Gundara, a renowned pioneer in the field, and brings together contributions from experienced educators and researchers who focus on problematic aspects of intercultural education, as well as on crucial issues related to different regional contexts. Contributors draw upon national, comparative and international perspectives, in addition to theoretical and empirical studies, to inform thinking and discussion in relation to innovative policies and pedagogies. The content of the book will be found to be both challenging and stimulating. Accordingly, it will be welcomed by graduate students and researchers, as well as educators and policy-makers both nationally and across the globe. As such, the volume reflects an endeavour to establish intercultural education as a fundamental aspect of educational discourse in general.

Book The Future of the Past Paths towards Participatory Governance for Cultural Heritage

Download or read book The Future of the Past Paths towards Participatory Governance for Cultural Heritage written by Gabriela García and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-06-03 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Future of the Past is a biennial conference generally carried out during the commemoration date of the incorporation of Santa Ana de Los Ríos de Cuenca Ecuador as a World Heritage Site (WHS). It initiated in 2014, organized by the City Preservation Management research project (CPM) of the University of Cuenca, to create a space for dialoguing among interested actors in the cultural heritage field. Since then, this space has served to exchange initiatives and to promote coordinated actions based on shared responsibility, in the local context. The third edition of this conference took place in the context of the 20th anniversary of being listed as WHS and a decade of CPM as the Southern host of the PRECOM3OS UNESCO Chair (Preventive Conservation, Maintenance and Monitoring of Monuments and Sites). For the very first time, and thanks to the collaboration with the Raymond Lemaire International Centre for Conservation of the University of Leuven (Belgium), the conference expanded its local scope. On this occasion, contributions reflected round a worldwide challenge in the cultural field: revealing the paths towards participatory governance of cultural heritage. Participatory governance is understood as institutional decision-making structures supported by shared responsibilities and rights among diverse actors.

Book The Underside of Modernity

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dussel (ethics, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico) shows how North American and European philosophies have failed to give historically faithful analysis of the genesis of the "myth" of modernity, and have never engaged in a serious questioning of their own Eurocentric presuppositions. He contends that North American and European philosophers have fallen into a false belief that there is a linear sequence that moves from the premodern to the modern, developed, and industrialized. Book From Modernity to Cosmodernity

Download or read book From Modernity to Cosmodernity written by Basarab Nicolescu and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offers a new paradigm of reality, based on the interaction between science, culture, spirituality, religion, and society. The quantum, biological, and information revolutions of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries should have thoroughly changed our view of reality, yet the old viewpoint based on classical science remains dominant, reinforcing a notion of a rational, mechanistic world that allows for endless progress. In practice, this view has promoted much violence among humans. Basarab Nicolescu heralds a new era, cosmodernity, founded on a contemporary vision of the interaction between science, culture, spirituality, religion, and society. Here, reality is plastic and its people are active participants in the cosmos, and the world is simultaneously knowable and unknowable. Ultimately, every human recognizes his or her face in the face of every other human being, independent of his or her particular religious or philosophical beliefs. Nicolescu notes a new spirituality free of dogmas and looks at quantum physics, literature, theater, and art to reveal the emergence of a newer, cosmodern consciousness.
