Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: REFLECTIONS ON SPACETIME - FOUNDATIONS, PHILOSOPHY AND HISTORY During the academic year 1992/93, an interdisciplinary research group constituted itself at the Zentrum fUr interdisziplinare Forschung (ZiF) in Bielefeld, Germany, under the title 'Semantical Aspects of Spacetime Theories', in which philosophers and physicists worked on topics in the interpretation and history of relativity theory. The present issue consists of contributions resulting from material presented and discussed in the group during the course of that year. The scope of the papers ranges from rather specialised issues arising from general relativity such as the problem of referential indeterminacy, to foundational questions regarding spacetime in the work of Carnap, Weyl and Hilbert. It is well known that the General Theory of Relativity (GTR) admits spacetime models which are 'exotic' in the sense that observers could travel into their own past. This poses a number of problems for the physical interpretation of GTR which are also relevant in the philosophy of spacetime. It is not enough to exclude these exotic models simply by stating that we live in a non-exotic universe, because it might be possible to "operate time machines" by actively changing the topology of the future part of spacetime. In his contribution, Earman first reviews the attempts of physicists to prove "chronology protection theorems" (CPTs) which exclude the operation of time machines under reasonable assumptions.

Book Our Curious World of Mirror Images

Download or read book Our Curious World of Mirror Images written by Titus Joseph and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2013-12-10 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introducing a new holistic paradigm that provides a clear new pair of lens - for the mind. This new concept depolarizes our perceptions on reality by reconciling the ancient and deeply compelling paradox known as dualism. As it unravels the greatest mystery of our existential lives, that great enigma that in spirituality led us from “all good”, to good & evil; and in science, leads to two laws that we cannot reconcile. However, with this new pair of depolarizing lens, we are able to conceive something quite remarkable, space, time and how existing things are formed in it. This book is very relevant because it is antidote to the social and political ills of our societies. The polarization inherent in our present paradigm creates social diseases such as sexism, racism, wars, and the myriad forms of hate we tend to indulge in. We daily confront the ravages of political neglect that we are forced to bear, as we try to cope with these corrupted ways of being. The benefit of this new holistic paradigm is that it provides a logical, science-based understanding that is so obvious and universal, we are essentially oblivious to it; and, it resolves the greatest paradoxes we face as spiritual beings in a materialistic world. This book promotes well-being for the soul in the evolution of the mind. • Reveals the origin of the invisible field we call Space(Time) • Explains how existing things emerge and form into being • Sheds whole new light on the meaning of GOD • Reconciles the divides between Eastern and Western traditions in religion, science, and philosophy • Bridges Dualism (Separation & Polarization) • Self Actualization Meditations (“I AM ‘Mind’, I AM ‘Consciousness’”)

Book Space Time and the Limits of Human Understanding

Download or read book Space Time and the Limits of Human Understanding written by Shyam Wuppuluri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this compendium of essays, some of the world’s leading thinkers discuss their conceptions of space and time, as viewed through the lens of their own discipline. With an epilogue on the limits of human understanding, this volume hosts contributions from six or more diverse fields. It presumes only rudimentary background knowledge on the part of the reader. Time and again, through the prism of intellect, humans have tried to diffract reality into various distinct, yet seamless, atomic, yet holistic, independent, yet interrelated disciplines and have attempted to study it contextually. Philosophers debate the paradoxes, or engage in meditations, dialogues and reflections on the content and nature of space and time. Physicists, too, have been trying to mold space and time to fit their notions concerning micro- and macro-worlds. Mathematicians focus on the abstract aspects of space, time and measurement. While cognitive scientists ponder over the perceptual and experiential facets of our consciousness of space and time, computer scientists theoretically and practically try to optimize the space-time complexities in storing and retrieving data/information. The list is never-ending. Linguists, logicians, artists, evolutionary biologists, geographers etc., all are trying to weave a web of understanding around the same duo. However, our endeavour into a world of such endless imagination is restrained by intellectual dilemmas such as: Can humans comprehend everything? Are there any limits? Can finite thought fathom infinity? We have sought far and wide among the best minds to furnish articles that provide an overview of the above topics. We hope that, through this journey, a symphony of patterns and tapestry of intuitions will emerge, providing the reader with insights into the questions: What is Space? What is Time? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The standard treatise on the general theory of relativity." — Nature "Whatever the future may bring, Professor Weyl's book will remain a classic of physics." — British Journal for Philosophy and Science Reflecting the revolution in scientific and philosophic thought which accompanied the Einstein relativity theories, Dr. Weyl has probed deeply into the notions of space, time, and matter. A rigorous examination of the state of our knowledge of the world following these developments is undertaken with this guiding principle: that although further scientific thought may take us far beyond our present conception of the world, we may never again return to the previous narrow and restricted scheme. Although a degree of mathematical sophistication is presupposed, Dr. Weyl develops all the tensor calculus necessary to his exposition. He then proceeds to an analysis of the concept of Euclidean space and the spatial conceptions of Riemann. From this the nature of the amalgamation of space and time is derived. This leads to an exposition and examination of Einstein's general theory of relativity and the concomitant theory of gravitation. A detailed investigation follows devoted to gravitational waves, a rigorous solution of the problem of one body, laws of conservation, and the energy of gravitation. Dr. Weyl's introduction of the concept of tensor-density as a magnitude of quantity (contrasted with tensors which are considered to be magnitudes of intensity) is a major step toward a clearer understanding of the relationships among space, time, and matter.

Book Mind And Reality The Space time Window

Download or read book Mind And Reality The Space time Window written by Wolfram Schommers and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-09-22 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between mind and reality is usually perceived as an event that takes place in reality and producing simultaneously an internal image in the mind. So it takes place twice, so to speak, and there is a one-to-one correspondence between the two events. Within this conception, matter is embedded in space and time, and can be designated as “container-principle”. This monograph emphasizes that the well-known philosopher Immanuel Kant denied this principle and he stated that reality is principally not recognizable to a human being, and modern biological evolution seems to lead exactly to Kant's point of view. Within the theory of evolution, man's image about reality in mind does not have to be complete and true in the sense of a precise reproduction, and it is relatively easy to recognize that even space and time should not be elements of reality outside. Within this conception, only a certain part of reality, which the human being needs for mastering life, is projected onto space and time, and we come to the so-called “projection principle”. Then, spacetime defines the window to reality, leading to a number of exciting and essential questions, some of which are discussed in this monograph. As is known, current physics is mainly based on the container-principle. But this monograph proposes that the projection principle is obviously more suitable and could help to solve open-ended questions as, for example, in connection with the nature of time, the particle-wave duality, the cosmological constant, etc. Regarding the statistical behavior of matter, Einstein's statement “God does not play dice” has to be seen in a new light, but also Feynman's general viewpoint on quantum theory that it cannot be understood by man. However, conventional quantum theory is obviously not a consistent framework as per the projection principle. The term “world equation” is critically probed in this monograph.

Book The Greatest Thoughts Known to Mankind

Download or read book The Greatest Thoughts Known to Mankind written by John J Kaiser and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2022-10-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science offers profound experiences into the functions of the universe yet those bits of knowledge come as conditions that frequently seem to be blatter. John j. kaiser, shows that they are truly similar to significant sonnets that can assist us with flying over sierras to find a marvelous multi-layered scene buzzing with brilliant monsters, twisted space-time, and bewilderingly strong powers. Secondary school math is itself a centuries-old wonder as deserving of our look as the Mona Lisa. What's more, it might come as a shock the degree to which all our most state of the art thoughts regarding dark openings are based on the numerical math empowers. No other person could so flawlessly direct perusers toward getting a handle on the very condition Einstein used to depict his hypothesis of general relativity. In the custom of the unbelievable Richard Feynman addresses introduced a long time back, this book is a rousing, stunning prologue to an approach to seeing that will reverberate across social and generational limits for a long time to come.

Book Spacetime and Theology in Dialogue

Download or read book Spacetime and Theology in Dialogue written by Gideon Goosen and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What has Einstein's theory of relativity got to do with theology? Is time real or merely an illusion? Have you ever experienced time standing still? Is travel into the future possible? How long is eternity? What does the bible have to say about spacetime? Spacetime and Theology in Dialogue explores the new way of seeing time and space (spacetime) and how that vision might raise questions for contemporary theology. The author takes us on a journey through philosophy, psychology and anthropology before proposing process theology as a useful way to come to grips with this new concept: spacetime. He suggests a theology of spacetime would need to be trinitarian, incarnational, biblical, liturgical and sacramental as well as open to synchronicity and mystery.

Book The Substance of Spacetime

Download or read book The Substance of Spacetime written by Andrew Martin Ryan and published by Gadfly LLC. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If spacetime does not exist, it does so in a very unusual way. It curves in response to massive objects. It warps in response to high velocities. The Substance of Spacetime treats spacetime, not merely as a geometric abstraction, but as a real physical substance, opening a window onto reality that would otherwise be impossible to even contemplate.

Book Revelations and Reflections on Humankind Inspired by Modern Physics

Download or read book Revelations and Reflections on Humankind Inspired by Modern Physics written by Samo Liu and published by Scientific Research Publishing, Inc. USA. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humankind resides in the three-dimensional universe. It is a real materialistic universe where humans utilize their senses to perceive the dimension, temperature, color, or taste of all beings of the universe. However, the Universe that humankind discovered to date is not the entire Universe. The scientific results from researches performed by modern physicists and the knowledge passed down by ancient sages throughout generations have lead humankind to believe that the visible Universe is only a fraction of the whole Universe. The void invisible to humankind is where the Origin of the Universe lies.
