Book Process Innovation

Download or read book Process Innovation written by Thomas H. Davenport and published by Harvard Business Press. This book was released on 1993-02-24 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The business environment of the 1990s demands significant changes in the way we do business. Simply formulating strategy is no longer sufficient; we must also design the processes to implement it effectively. The key to change is process innovation, a revolutionary new approach that fuses information technology and human resource management to improve business performance. The cornerstone to process innovation's dramatic results is information technology--a largely untapped resource, but a crucial "enabler" of process innovation. In turn, only a challenge like process innovation affords maximum use of information technology's potential. Davenport provides numerous examples of firms that have succeeded or failed in combining business change and technology initiatives. He also highlights the roles of new organizational structures and human resource programs in developing process innovation. Process innovation is quickly becoming the byword for industries ready to pull their companies out of modest growth patterns and compete effectively in the world marketplace.

Book Access America Reengineering Through Information Technology

Download or read book Access America Reengineering Through Information Technology written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the President asked me in 1993 to lead the reinvention of government, the first thing I did was start talking with front-line federal employees about what was broken and how to fix it. In agency offices and at the National Performance Review (NPR), inspired teams worked day and night through the summer of 1993 generating ideas. They got a lot of help from the best in business, as well as state and local reinventors. When the work was finished, we had 1,200 actions that I recommended to the President. He reviewed them, gave them his endorsement, and made a personal commitment. He said, "Wherever this report says, the President should, ' this President will." Among the 1,200 recommended actions was a set of imaginative proposals to make government work better and cost less by reengineering through information technology. The idea of reengineering through technology is critical. We didn't want to automate the old, worn processes of government. Information technology (IT) was and is the great enabler for reinvention. It allows us to rethink, in fundamental ways, how people work and how we serve customers.

Book Information Technology for Knowledge Management

Download or read book Information Technology for Knowledge Management written by Uwe M. Borghoff and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we approach the beginning of the 21 st century, we are beginning to see the emer gence of knowledge management as a natural evolution of the focus and importance of quality in the 1980s and reengineering in the I 990s. Quality placed a huge em phasis on getting all employees to use their brainpower better. Reengineering em phasized the use of technology to streamline business processes and take out costs. With the lessons of quality and reengineering firmly embedded in our everyday op erations (continual cost containment and higher quality is a way of life), businesses are now turning their attention to growth. Growth is a common pursuit. Customers are calling for it. Financial markets are calling for it. Employees are asking for it because they want an exciting and stimu lating environment in which to work. If a business doesn't grow, it will eventually die because knowledge workers ofthe 21 st century won't want to work with or for a business that's not growing. Skilled workers have plenty of options to choose from as demand for knowledge workers escalates around the world.

As an emerging technology, the effectiveness and potential impact of process improvement efforts have been debated, but not fully tested or validated. At the very core of this technological evolution is the idea that the quality of a software product is highly dependent on the quality of the process used for its development. Successful Software Reengineering examines the most recent theories, models, approaches and processes involved with the concept of software improvement and reengineering.

Book Information Technology and Business Process Reengineering

Download or read book Information Technology and Business Process Reengineering written by Hui Liang Tsai and published by Praeger. This book was released on 2003-03-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information technology matters. The formulation of business models and strategies is likely to be seriously flawed if it neglects new technological changes and repercussions. Information technology and organizational learning are both critical to attaining and sustaining competitive advantage. Based on these premises, and on the increasingly evident obsolescence of the traditional, hierarchical business model, the author takes an integrated approach to the discussion of organizational learning, new value propositions, supply-chain optimization, e-commerce, new perspectives on business process reengineering, collaborative business models, globalization of business, and the continuing trend toward virtual integration. This book is not another tired exhortation to take advantage of technology to improve corporate performance. One cannot utilize technology to its full potential without also overhauling the rigid, hierarchical business model that was designed for the command-and-control corporate environment of the industrial era. Tsai takes a comprehensive view of everything that needs to be done in order to make the most of emerging technologies. The new information economy calls for companies that foster strategic collaboration through a more horizontal organizational structure. A more synchronized supply chain yields better customer service, higher quality, faster delivery, and lower inventory. In the customer-centric environment, a new value proposition is essential. Business processes must be fast, focused, flexible, responsive, and nimble. With the knowledge gained from this book, one should be able to face the future with an ability and capacity to discern technology policies and make decisions concerning strategic positioning and competitive business strategy.
