Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work offers the most comprehensive account of the origin and consequences of the Yan'an Rectification Movement from 1942 to 1945. The author argues that this campaign emancipated the Chinese Communist Party from Sovietinfluenced dogmatism and unified the Party, preparing it for the final victory against the Nationalist Party in 1949. More importantly, this monograph shows in great detail how Mao Zedong established his leadership through this partywide political movement by means of aggressive intraparty purges, thought control, coercive cadre examinations, and total reorganizations of the Party's upper structure. The result of this movement not only set up the foundation for Mao's new China, but also deeply influenced the Chinese political structure today. The Chinese version of How the Red Sun Rose was published in 2000, and has had nineteen printings since then.

The author's masterful prose and style serve the story instead of merely taking center stage . . . This author and novel are ready for prime time and the big time.” —Publishers Weekly, BookLife Prize Critic’s Report Meet Phoebe Katz, a twelve-year-old foster kid from New York City who’s been bounced around the system her entire life. Things happen around Phoebe, but it’s not like they’re her fault! But when a statue of Athena comes to life, Phoebe gets the stunning news she’s the daughter of Zeus, has a twin brother named Perseus—and was sent away from ancient Greece as a baby to stop a terrible prophecy that predicted she would one day destroy Olympus. Athena warns Phoebe to stay in hiding, but when the vengeful god Ares kidnaps her beloved social worker, Phoebe has no choice—she has to travel back to ancient Greece and rescue him! There, Phoebe and her friends Angie and Damian discover a new prophecy, one that may fix everything. The catch: Phoebe has to collect talismans from six Greek monsters, including the fang from a nine-headed hydra, a talon from the Nemean lion, and a feather from the sphinx. No problem for a girl with the power to call up lightning bolts and change the weather! But can Phoebe collect them all and stop the prophecy before she destroys Olympus?

Book Still Burning

  • Author : Alinda Dickinson Wasner
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation

Download or read book Still Burning written by Alinda Dickinson Wasner and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-01-16 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wasner speaks passionately, unabashedly, and with humor about love, physical and spiritual, about the cycles of the seasons and generations. Hers are poems of conscience about hard work and circumstances. Her eye is finely attuned to the tiny details as well as the wild juxtapositions that make up our world. She helps us see it anew. --Anca Vlasopolos, Walking Toward Solstice Alinda Wasners poetry sends you over a Niagara of images in a barrel of wonder. And you experience a thrilling ride and a surprising drop, for you never know, when you start, just where shes going to leave you when you splash down at the bottom. The most seemingly innocent beginnings lead to delicious naughty ends. An innocuous start finishes with a poignant detour into the deepest recesses of the heart. Startled to discover where you end up, you know thats where youre supposed to be. --Anthony Ambrogio, Assoc. Editor, Corridors "With craft and insight, Alinda Wasner's poems explore the stuff of life -- love and loss, dancing at long-ago celebrations, kisses under the summer sun, and memories as pale as the moon at dawn." --John Gallagher, The Detroit Free Press and author of Reimagining Detroit. Alinda Wasner's poetry collection wonderfully and honestly captures how helpless we are before our passions, whether it's a reconciling couple and their love noises muffled by the shrieks of a jay("Ode to the night and morning following an All-Day of Arguing"), a bittersweet visit to a broken-down home in an old neighborhood (Gone) or a truly beautiful solo of a grandmother braving a blizzard to welcome her newborn grandson into the world ("Aria")--Still Burning is a vivid songbook of loss and desire. --- -- Patrick O'Leary, The Gift.
