Book Reconstructing a Broken Life

Download or read book Reconstructing a Broken Life written by Jill Osterhout M.A. and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2019-04-22 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phone rings. The door slams. Suddenly, a tragedy that happens to “other people” happened to me. One minute of time – sixty seconds that I will play over and over in my mind for the rest of my life – one minute. The kaleidoscope of my life, which spun in beautiful tempo to cereal bowls, toy trucks, soccer balls, and practice schedules began spinning way too fast. Doors slamming and lights from emergency vehicles flashing. Why can’t I breathe? I’m the mom; I can fix anything. Why can’t mommy fix this? I want my life back. I don’t want to hear that Bobby is in a “better place.” I don’t want to hear that time will heal me. I don’t want my kitchen counters covered with casseroles. I don’t want to smile at the endless line of people awkwardly walking toward me saying phrases printed on sympathy cards, although I appreciate their support. I was a stranger in my own life. I was simply breathing in and out to the rhythm of what others needed from me. When I was unable to clear the fog that became my reality, my FAITH carried me. I decided that although my son was gone from this world, he would not be gone in spirit. Slowly, I noticed a new version of myself starting to appear. It was then that I decided to reconstruct my life after unspeakable loss.

How do you pull it together? How do you begin again? Tom Holladay experienced a catastrophe first-hand when a sudden flood in California destroyed his home, his church, and the homes of many church members. Now a teaching pastor at Saddleback Church, Tom will help you discover seven principles for putting it together again that will give you the direction you need to get rolling on that fresh start. Holladay will walk you through seeing every problem as an opportunity, facing the obstacles head on and taking your first step, knowing how to expect and reject opposition, build on your success, and dedicating yourself to the One who rebuilds our souls. The task of starting again can seem impossible. And sometimes you just need to rebuild your confidence and regain a sense of purpose. If you’re trying to find the emotional energy, but you just don’t have it in you, let Holladay encourage you. He understands how difficult and rewarding the business of rebuilding is. Book Leave Out the Tragic Parts

Download or read book Leave Out the Tragic Parts written by Dave Kindred and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extraordinary investigation of the death of the author's grandson yields a powerful memoir of addiction, grief, and the stories we choose to tell our families and ourselves. Jared Kindred left his home and family at the age of eighteen, choosing to wander across America on freight train cars and live on the street. Addicted to alcohol most of his short life, and withholding the truth from many who loved him, he never found a way to survive. Through this ordeal, Dave Kindred's love for his grandson has never wavered. Leave Out the Tragic Parts is not merely a reflection on love and addiction and loss. It is a hard-won work of reportage, meticulously reconstructing the life Jared chose for himself--a life that rejected the comforts of civilization in favor of a chance to roam free. Kindred asks painful but important questions about the lies we tell to get along, and what binds families together or allows them to fracture. Jared's story ended in tragedy, but the act of telling it is an act of healing and redemption. This is an important book on how to love your family, from a great writer who has lived its lessons.

Book Reconstructing Lives Recapturing Meaning

Download or read book Reconstructing Lives Recapturing Meaning written by Linda A. Camino and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-08-12 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconstructing Lives, Recapturing Meaning presents the first systematic investigation of refugees' loss of their old identities and their efforts to construct new ones. Edited by the Chair and Vice Chair of the Committee on Refugee Issues (CORI) of the American Anthropological Association, it critically examines the interplay between cultural, ethnic, and gender constructions among resettled refugee populations. Each chapter is grounded in anthropological theory and method, and the book's framework demonstrates the relationship between the dynamics of forced migration and the ways in which ethnic and gender identities are reinvented in new socio-cultural settings. Unanimous in their perception of boundary maintenance as central to identity formation, these essays allow readers to view refugee resettlement as a creative, experimental process.

Book Reconstructing Perceptions of Systemically Marginalized Groups

Download or read book Reconstructing Perceptions of Systemically Marginalized Groups written by Ponciano, Leslie and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-04-18 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite their best intentions, professionals in the helping fields are influenced by a deficit perspective that is pervasive in research, theory, training programs, workforce preparation programs, statistical data, and media portrayals of marginalized groups. They enter their professions ready to fix others and their interactions are grounded in an assumption that there will be a problem to fix. They are rarely taught to approach their work with a positive view that seeks to identify the existing strengths and assets contributed by individuals who are in difficult circumstances. Moreover, these professionals are likely to be entirely unaware of the deficit-based bias that influences the way they speak, act, and behave during those interactions. Reconstructing Perceptions of Systemically Marginalized Groups demonstrates that all individuals in marginalized groups have the potential to be successful when they are in a strengths-based environment that recognizes their value and focuses on what works to promote positive outcomes, rather than on barriers and deficits. Covering key topics such as education practices, adversity, and resilience, this reference work is ideal for industry professionals, administrators, psychologists, policymakers, researchers, academicians, scholars, instructors, and students.
