Book Reconnaissance Surficial Geology Armark Lake Nunavut NTS 66 K South

Download or read book Reconnaissance Surficial Geology Armark Lake Nunavut NTS 66 K South written by L. A. Dredge and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Preliminary surficial geology studies, based on air photo interpretation and limited recent field data, were undertaken in the south half of the Armark Lake map area to provide an understanding of surficial materials and regional glacial history. Much of the map area is covered by till veneer and swaths of sandy till with streamlined forms indicating ice flow to the NNW. Till blankets contain material derived from Thelon sandstone bedrock south of the map area, although till veneers are derived from more local bedrock. Subglacial meltwater corridors, spaced across the area, are also oriented NNW. An extensive, sandy kame moraine, characterized by kettle topography and kame terraces, marks a recessional ice margin on the north side of Garry Lake. Short-lived ice-marginal and proglacial lakes covered much of the terrain below an elevation of 220 m, leaving flat sandy deposits with thermokarst depressions and tundra ponds. The most extensive glacial lake deposits lie north of the kame moraine"--Page [2].

Book Reconnaissance Surficial Geology Pelly Lake Nunavut NTS 66 F North

Download or read book Reconnaissance Surficial Geology Pelly Lake Nunavut NTS 66 F North written by D. A. St-Onge and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Preliminary surficial geology studies, through aerial photograph interpretation and limited legacy data, were undertaken in the north half of the Pelly Lake map area. Widespread streamlined till blanket, hummocky till, till veneer and ridged till which may exhibit small transverse ridges locally, are common across the map area. Drumlinoids and crag-and-tails record a regional north-northwestward ice flow during the last glaciation, with local crosscutting age relationships. Rare morainal ridges indicate recessional or stagnant ice-marginal positions. Northward trending meltwater corridors consist of glaciofluvial sediments, zones of scoured bedrock, lags of till veneer and areas of ridged till. Isolated glacial lakes of variable extent were formed by ponding of meltwater, and some fine-grained glacial lake sediments are now characterized by shallow thermokarst lakes. Previous levels of Pelly and Garry lakes are estimated on ice-contact deltas at 190-200 m a.s.l. Active eolian activity can occur adjacent to rivers and lakes, associated with glaciofluvial sediments"--Page [3].

Download or read book Reconnaissance Surficial Geology Burns Lake Victoria Island Northwest Territories and Nunavut NTS 77 G written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This new surficial geology map product represents the conversion of Open File 2883, Map 2 and its legend only, using the Geological Survey of Canada's Surficial Data Model (SDM version 2.2) which can be found in Open File 8041. All geoscience knowledge and information from Open File 2883, Map 2 that conformed to the current SDM were maintained during the conversion process. Additional material such as marginal notes or figures which may exist on the original map, are not included here. Supplementary, limited legacy information was added to complement the converted geoscience data. This consists of a few striations and crag-and-tails from Fyles, 1963. It is identified in the accompanying geodatabase. The purpose of converting legacy map data to a common science language and common legend is to enable and facilitate the efficient digital compilation, interpretation, management, and dissemination of geologic map information in a structured and consistent manner. This provides an effective knowledge management tool designed around a geodatabase which can expand following the type of information to appear on new surficial geology maps"--Page [3].

Book Reconnaissance Surficial Geology Hill Island Lake Northwest Territories NTS 75 C

Download or read book Reconnaissance Surficial Geology Hill Island Lake Northwest Territories NTS 75 C written by V. M. Levson and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconnaissance mapping, through air photograph interpretation and limited legacy field data in the Hill Island Lake map area, provides a basic understanding of surficial sediments and glacial history. Bedrock is well exposed throughout the map area but more extensive in the northern half. Till blanket, veneer and glaciofluvial outwash become increasingly more abundant towards the southern third of the map area. Drumlinized till, crag-and-tails, and striations record ice advance to the southwest. Small isolated moraine ridges may reflect deglacial stagnant ice. Glaciofluvial corridors of eskers and scoured bedrock, record a southwestward meltwater flow during deglaciation. Some corridors are topographically controlled. In the Hill Island and Taylor Lake basins, glaciolacustrine deltas are found at 340 m. Pockets of glaciolacustrine sediments occur along the Thoa, Nolan, Abitariver basins, and in the Oswald, Delight, Kidder and other smaller lake basins. These are interpreted to be short lived, ice-dammed glacial lakes. Postglacial dune ridges up to 1-2 km long trend NW-SE.
