Book Have Fun Fight Back and Keep the Party Going

Download or read book Have Fun Fight Back and Keep the Party Going written by Jeff O'Hara and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2018-12-11 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A true entrepreneur always looks to the future, no matter what is bearing down—9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the Great Recession, or the BP oil spill. With wit, hard work, guts, and a few cold beers, Jeff O’Hara and his businesses battled, bounced back, and survived these disasters, and we are the beneficiaries of the lessons learned along the way. But O’Hara’s lessons are no dry list of rules on entrepreneurism: This first-time author is a gifted storyteller with an edgy, one-of-a-kind sense of humor who informs and entertains with tales of the tragic, the triumphant, and the places and people only New Orleans can produce. Accounts of O’Hara’s life as he earned his place in the hospitality industry deliver colorful, honest insights into just what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur. It’s clear he loves what he does and that his successes are a result of his love for his trade, his independent spirit, and, of course, a commitment to overcoming anything that gets in his way. O’Hara’s wisdom will inspire entrepreneurs and anyone who appreciates a great story—from New Orleans natives to the rest of us who are fascinated by the life of this great city.

Book It s Fun to Be a Person I Don t Know

Download or read book It s Fun to Be a Person I Don t Know written by Chachi D. Hauser and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2023-03 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At first glance a reader might mistake It’s Fun to Be a Person I Don’t Know for a juicy Hollywood tell-all, given Chachi D. Hauser’s background as the great-granddaughter of Roy Disney, a cofounder with his brother Walt of the Walt Disney Company. And to her credit, Hauser doesn’t shy away from confronting painful family memories when considering how the stories, myths, and rumors surrounding this entertainment empire have influenced her own imagination. But family history is only one strand in this intricate and variegated weave that also interlaces the social and environmental history of Hauser’s adopted hometown of New Orleans, intimate reflections on love and navigating open relationships, and a searing self-examination that reveals a gender fluidity chafing against social barriers. Hauser’s innovative and multifaceted narrative navigates a variety of terrains, seeking truth as its final destination. While the family company excels in fantasy, Hauser’s story is that of a young documentary filmmaker determined to train a sharply focused lens on the reality of her lived experiences.

Download or read book Republic on the Wire written by John McMurria and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2017-02 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of cable television in America is far older than networks like MTV, ESPN, and HBO, which are so familiar to us today. Tracing the origins of cable TV back to the late 1940s, media scholar John McMurria also locates the roots of many current debates about premium television, cultural elitism, minority programming, content restriction, and corporate ownership. Republic on the Wire takes us back to the pivotal years in which media regulators and members of the viewing public presciently weighed the potential benefits and risks of a two-tiered television system, split between free broadcasts and pay cable service. Digging into rare archives, McMurria reconstructs the arguments of policymakers, whose often sincere advocacy for the public benefits of cable television were fueled by cultural elitism and the priority to maintain order during a period of urban Black rebellions. He also tells the story of the people of color, rural residents, women’s groups, veterans, seniors, and low-income viewers who challenged this reasoning and demanded an equal say over the future of television. By excavating this early cable history, and placing equality at the center of our understanding of media democracy, Republic on the Wire is a real eye-opener as it develops a new methodology for studying media policy in the past and present.

Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered how God deals with a Christian who chooses addiction? The life of one alcoholic affects hundreds of other lives, especially when the active drinker is a teacher, a parent, a grandparent, an involved church and community member. This is the story of a Christian marriage that weathers the storm of alcoholism at its deepest level. It is the story of bare survival in hopeless situations of repeated failure. It is the spiritual destruction of a respected Christian woman who seeks restoration. Written in honest, heartfelt language, this memoir demonstrates God's heart and longing for those trapped in the prodigal circumstances of addiction. Loss eventually becomes strength. Illness becomes a turn-around time of life.
