Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies in the area of securities markets and securities regulatory laws are of vital importance to, and greatly demanded by those in business and legal professions in any country. In Korea, however, due to the general scarcity of accessible information and relevant literature, there has, until now, been a total lack of such studies. This book offers a comprehensive study of Securities Regulations of Korea in the context of her rapidly growing economy. The first part of this volume sets forth the historical development of the Korean securities markets and shows how one developing nation, the Republic of Korea, has coped with her capital market promotion problems. The second part discusses the present securities regulatory laws and their problems as compared with those of the United States and Japan. In the last part, recommendations for feasible reforms for the future are presented. Finally, an appendix is attached to update recent development in the Korean securities markets and regulation thereof. Based on extensive research into both business and legal aspects of the Korean securities industry, this volume also provides a comprehensive review of current securities laws and enforcement techniques in Korea as compared with those in the United States and Japan and, as an analytical case study of Korea as a developing nation, furnishes a reference point for other developing nations.

Book Law Capitalism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Curtis J. Milhaupt
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 2008-09-15
  • ISBN : 0226525295
  • Pages : 281 pages

Download or read book Law Capitalism written by Curtis J. Milhaupt and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-09-15 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent high-profile corporate scandals—such as those involving Enron in the United States, Yukos in Russia, and Livedoor in Japan—demonstrate challenges to legal regulation of business practices in capitalist economies. Setting forth a new analytic framework for understanding these problems, Law and Capitalism examines such contemporary corporate governance crises in six countries, to shed light on the interaction of legal systems and economic change. This provocative book debunks the simplistic view of law’s instrumental function for financial market development and economic growth. Using comparative case studies that address the United States, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, and Russia, Curtis J. Milhaupt and Katharina Pistor argue that a disparate blend of legal and nonlegal mechanisms have supported economic growth around the world. Their groundbreaking findings show that law and markets evolve together in a “rolling relationship,” and legal systems, including those of the most successful economies, therefore differ significantly in their organizational characteristics. Innovative and insightful, Law and Capitalism will change the way lawyers, economists, policy makers, and business leaders think about legal regulation in an increasingly global market for capital and corporate governance.

Book Domestic Constraints on South Korean Foreign Policy

Download or read book Domestic Constraints on South Korean Foreign Policy written by Scott A. Snyder and published by Council on Foreign Relations. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These essays support the argument that strong and effective presidential leadership is the most important prerequisite for South Korea to sustain and project its influence abroad. That leadership should be attentive to the need for public consensus and should operate within established legislative mechanisms that ensure public accountability. The underlying structures sustaining South Korea’s foreign policy formation are generally sound; the bigger challenge is to manage domestic politics in ways that promote public confidence about the direction and accountability of presidential leadership in foreign policy.

  • ISBN : 0520302524
  • Pages : 188 pages

Download or read book Rules of the House written by Sungyun Lim and published by University of California Press. This book was released on 2018-12-18 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At publication date, a free ebook version of this title will be available through Luminos, University of California Press’s Open Access publishing program. Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more. Rules of the House offers a dynamic revisionist account of the Japanese colonial rule of Korea (1910–1945) by examining the roles of women in the civil courts. Challenging the dominant view that women were victimized by the Japanese family laws and its patriarchal biases, Sungyun Lim argues that Korean women had to struggle equally against Korean patriarchal interests. Moreover, women were not passive victims; instead, they proactively struggled to expand their rights by participating in the Japanese colonial legal system. In turn, the Japanese doctrine of promoting progressive legal rights would prove advantageous to them. Following female plaintiffs and their civil disputes from the precolonial Choson dynasty through colonial times and into postcolonial reforms, this book presents a new and groundbreaking story about Korean women’s legal struggles, revealing their surprising collaborative relationship with the colonial state.
