Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practice of Copper Smelting Owing to the great developments which the dry metallurgy of copper has experienced during the past twenty years, any attempt to write a complete work upon the subject would result in an encyclopedia rather than a handbook. I have, therefore, believed it best to introduce comparatively few illustrations of processes, but to select these from the best modern practice, and to study them in detail. A book of this nature cannot be written without the cooperation of the owners and managers of a large number of metallurgical plants operating under a variety of conditions, and this assistance has been extended to me in the most liberal manner. Book Notes on Lead and Copper Smelting and Copper Converting Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes on Lead and Copper Smelting and Copper Converting Classic Reprint written by Hiram W. Hixon and published by . This book was released on 2016-07-23 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on Lead and Copper Smelting and Copper Converting IN revising the text of this series of notes on Lead and Copper Smelting and copper Converting I shall make but few changes in the original, even when in the light of later experience I should have stated the matter differently. A postscript will be written to each chapter, giving in as condensed form as possible the pro gress in the science, since these notes were written in 1896. The readers of metallurgical works have given a fair portion of their support to the preceding editions, and I trust that they may find that such contradictions as occur in the newer portions show a healthy search for truth. Book The Smelting of Copper Ores in the Electrical Furnace Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Smelting of Copper Ores in the Electrical Furnace Classic Reprint written by Dorsey A. Lyon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-23 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Smelting of Copper Ores in the Electrical Furnace The bulletin presents, first, a critical discussion of the possibility of smelting copper ores in the electric furnace; second, the results of the experimental work of other investigators on the electric smelting of copper; third, the results of experiments by the authors on the electric smelting of native copper concentrates and sulphide copper ores; and, fourth, a comparison of the electric furnace with the blast furnace and reverberatory furnace for Copper smelting. Before considering the electric smelting of copper ores the reader Should understand that the electric furnace was not developed as a competitor of the combustion furnace, but for the purpose of doing high-temperature work that can not be done in the combustion furnace, and for the treatment of ores from deposits that are in regions where fuel is scarce and costly but hydroelectric, power is comparatively cheap, as in Chile, and in certain parts of Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Furthermore, it is not the object of this report to try to prove that the electric furnace should replace the reverberatory or the blast furnace, as Used at present in smelting copper ores, but to show that the electric furnace may be used with advantage in localities where conditions are not favorable to the use of the reverberatory or the blast furnace. Book The Smelting of Copper in the Swansea District of South Wales

Download or read book The Smelting of Copper in the Swansea District of South Wales written by Grant-Francis Grant-Francis and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Smelting of Copper in the Swansea District of South Wales: From the Time of Elizabeth to the Present Day The First Edition of this Work, issued in the year 1867, was limited to a very small impression. It was presented in its entirety to friends and Public Institutions, and was thus exhausted within a week or two of its publication. The Author continues his History of the Industry through the earlier parts of the present century to our own day, sketching the establishment of individual works, describing their localities and furnishing the names of promoters, partners, and ground landlords, with other information of a like nature. Here, too, will be found the names of those Nobles, Knights, and others, who joined in starting that grand old Company, the "Mines Royal," in 1580, as well as the strange powers granted by the Crown to those Associations from which such great results sprung and have continued to this time. In addition to those from Elizabeth's reign, charters of the like nature are quoted down to the period of Queen Anne, and most interesting extracts taken from the private day-books and ledgers of those eras are given in elucidation of the text. An Appendix supplies much matter of cognate interest; e g., the Copper, brass, and silver coinage of the "Token" period, carefully registered from originals belonging to the Author, and by him presented to the Royal Institution Museum at Swansea.
