Book Real Time Centimeter Positioning with GPS A System Developed by the U S Army Corps of Engineers

Download or read book Real Time Centimeter Positioning with GPS A System Developed by the U S Army Corps of Engineers written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States Army Corps of Engineers has been developing a Global Positioning System (GPS) carrier phase based positioning system for hydrographic surveying and dredging since 1988. This system provides real-time three-dimensional positions with horizontal and vertical accuracies better than 1 decimeter over ranges up to 20 kilometers from a single reference station without static initialization. The project has passed from concept development through feasibility studies, system analysis, resolution of carrier ambiguities on-the-fly (OTF), to final system integration which is nearing completion. The real-time testing of the system began in March of 1993. This testing was performed under varying operating conditions to evaluate the limits of OTF ambiguity resolution for precisely positioning moving platforms. This paper will summarize the results of those tests. Early real-time tests performed have shown 1-3 centimeters in all three dimensions. The final design of the real-time system and its integration to hydrographic survey platforms also will be discussed. Global positioning system, Real time, 20 Kilometers, Resolution of carrier ambiguities on-the-fly, and subdecimeter accuracies.

Book Stream Stability and Scour at Highway Bridges

Download or read book Stream Stability and Scour at Highway Bridges written by Everett V. Richardson and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 1076 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sponsored by the Water Resources Engineering (Hydraulics) Divsion of ASCE. This collection contains 75 papers and 321 abstracts presented at conferences sponsored by the Water Resources Engineering (Hydraulics) Division of ASCE from 1991 through 1998. The collection contains many new and expanded versions of the original papers and is designed to assist the practitioner with the concepts in evaluating stream instability and scour at bridges. Topics include: history of bridge scour research; bridge scour determination; stream stability and geomorphology; construction scour; instrumentation for measuring and monitoring; field measurement; computer and physical modeling of bridge scour; scour at culverts; and economic and risk analysis. One important paper contains 384 field measurements of local scour at piers made by the U.S. Geological Survey.

Book The Development of a Real Time Decimeter Level Positioning System Using Global Positioning System GPS Technology

Download or read book The Development of a Real Time Decimeter Level Positioning System Using Global Positioning System GPS Technology written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spends in excess of 350 million annually dredging the nation's ports, harbors and waterways. An additional $40 million is spent performing hydrographic surveys supporting the planning, engineering and design phases of this effort. The USAETL has been tasked to develop a real-time decimeter-level positioning system using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to support the Corps hydrographic surveying and dredging operations. This paper discusses USAETL's research and development efforts involved in the development of this positioning system.

Book Environmental Project Management

Download or read book Environmental Project Management written by Ebenezer A. Sholarin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a new framework that facilitates the development of more intelligent systems and methods for data analysis and international information sharing, such as the use of satellite imaging and geospatial data to predict changes in weather conditions and shifts in water levels, and to assess the extent of the forest cover remaining on Earth that is visible from space. It brings together the many aspects of science and technology, as well as formula and analytical approaches required for more informed decision-making. It also highlights the vital importance of understanding the technological, economic and social dimensions of environmental projects that have short-term results and long-term impacts. It is unique in that it clearly distinguishes between environmental project management (EnvPM) and green project management (GreenPM), and presents an amalgamation of environmental management and project management concepts, using geospatial methods to form an EnvPM concept. The book sets a benchmark for the professionalism with which environmental projects should be planned, executed, monitored, assessed and delivered. While primarily intended for professionals responsible for the management of environmental projects or interested in improving the overall efficiency of such projects, it is also a useful handbook for managers in the private, public and non-for-profit sectors. It is a valuable resource for students at both undergraduate and master’s levels and an indispensable guide for anyone wanting to develop their skills in modern project management, environmental management and geospatial techniques. ``We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change, and the last generation that can do something about it.'' US President Obama's address to the United Nations on Climate Change and Global warming (2015) hison: This book provides an in-depth, well-researched and science-based approach to applying key project-management and spatial tools and practices in environmental projects. An important read for leaders considering projects that balance social-economic growth against minimising its ill-effects on Planet Earth. - Todd Hutchison, Global Chairman of Peopleistic group.
