Book Reactions of Carbon Atoms Using Crossed Pulsed Molecular Beams

Download or read book Reactions of Carbon Atoms Using Crossed Pulsed Molecular Beams written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of efficient carbon atom sources was carried out concurrently with studying reactions 1--3, and we already have intriguing results concerning these reactions, even though the development phase is still in progress. Our goals are to study reactions of carbon atoms with hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, and nitrous oxide include correlations between the energy distributions of the fragments, branching ratios, and kinetic energy dependences. These studies will provide prototypical examples of insertion and abstraction reaction dynamics. We also hope to accomplish the development of laser ablation as a reliable and versatile source of radicals for pulsed molecular beam studies. 4 refs.

Book Crossed Molecular Beam Study of the Reactions of Oxygen and Fluorine Atoms

Download or read book Crossed Molecular Beam Study of the Reactions of Oxygen and Fluorine Atoms written by Yuan T. Lee and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid developments in the study of oxygen reaction chemistry occurred as it is succeeded in obtaining an O(1D) beam source and commenced investigating the dynamics of several important reactions of O(3P) and O(1D). In the reaction of O(3P) with C6H6 and C6D6, two competing channels, one producing a stabilized addition complex and the other forming radical products C6H50 + H has been identified. Studies of the effects of collision energy and of deuteration were used to clarify the reaction mechanism. The reaction of O(3P) with another aromatic hydrocarbon toluene, results in competition between two substitution channels, loss of H atom and loss of CH3. In contrast to the 0 + C6H6 reaction, no stabilized oxygen-toluene adduct was observed.

Book Encyclopedia of Astrobiology

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Astrobiology written by Muriel Gargaud and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-27 with total page 3376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its third edition the Encyclopedia of Astrobiology serves as the key to a common understanding in the extremely interdisciplinary community of astrobiologists. Each new or experienced researcher and graduate student in adjacent fields of astrobiology will appreciate this reference work in the quest to understand the big picture. The carefully selected group of active researchers contributing to this work are aiming to give a comprehensive international perspective on and to accelerate the interdisciplinary advance of astrobiology. The interdisciplinary field of astrobiology constitutes a joint arena where provocative discoveries are coalescing concerning, e.g. the prevalence of exoplanets, the diversity and hardiness of life, and its chances for emergence. Biologists, astrophysicists, (bio)-chemists, geoscientists and space scientists share this exciting mission of revealing the origin and commonality of life in the Universe. With its overview articles and its definitions the Encyclopedia of Astrobiology not only provides a common language and understanding for the members of the different disciplines but also serves for educating a new generation of young astrobiologists who are no longer separated by the jargon of individual scientific disciplines. This new edition offers ~170 new entries. More than half of the existing entries were updated, expanded or supplemented with figures supporting the understanding of the text. Especially in the fields of astrochemistry and terrestrial extremophiles but also in exoplanets and space sciences in general there is a huge body of new results that have been taken into account in this new edition. Because the entries in the Encyclopedia are in alphabetical order without regard for scientific field, this edition includes a section “Astrobiology by Discipline” which lists the entries by scientific field and subfield. This should be particularly helpful to those enquiring about astrobiology, as it illustrates the broad and detailed nature of the field.

Book Crossed molecular beams Reactive Scattering of Oxygen Atoms

Download or read book Crossed molecular beams Reactive Scattering of Oxygen Atoms written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reactions of O(3P) with six prototypical unsaturated hydrocarbons, and the reaction of O(1D) with HD, have been studied in high-resolution crossed-molecular-beams scattering experiments with mass-spectrometric detection. The observed laboratory-product angular and velocity distributions unambiguously identify parent-daughter ion pairs, distinguish different neutral sources of the same ion, and have been used to identify the primary products of the reactions. The derived center-of-mass product angular and translational energy distributions have been used to elucidate the detailed reaction dynamics. These results demonstrate that O(3P)-unsaturated hydrocarbon chemistry is dominated by single bond cleavages, leading to radical products exclusively.

Book Recent Research in Molecular Beams

Download or read book Recent Research in Molecular Beams written by Immanual Estermann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent Research in Molecular Beam is a collection of scientific papers that have been inspired by Otto Stern, the founder of Molecular Beam Research. This book is composed of 10 chapters and begins with discussions on the early history of molecular beam research. The next chapters describe the velocity distribution measurements made on potassium molecular beams with a fixed-frequency, variable phase velocity selector, along with a brief consideration of the principles and concepts of electron magnetic moment and atomic magnetism. A chapter presents the atomic beam spectroscopic experiments on the metastable state of the hydrogen-like atoms that depend on a wholly different principle for the detection of transitions. This text further explores the effects of variations in the oscillatory field amplitudes, perturbations by neighboring resonances, perturbations by oscillatory fields, variations in the fixed field amplitudes, and phase shifts of the oscillatory fields. These topics are followed by a comparison of advantages and limitations of various techniques for spin property measurement as they apply in particular to radioactive nuclei, such as optical and molecular gas microwave spectroscopy, nuclear and paramagnetic resonance, and atomic beams. The remaining chapters examine fluid friction in a rarefied gas flow; some applications of molecular beam techniques to chemistry; and the polarized neutrons based on a Stern-Gerlach experiment. This work will be of great value to workers and researchers in molecular beam field.
