Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Rational Basis of Orthodoxy It is not pretended that the following chapters contain anything like a thorough and exhaustive treatment of the subjects to which they are respectively devoted. It will be sufficiently obvious that the plan of the work permitted me only to compress into a small space a few salient points under each of the heads into which the book is divided. It has been my aim simply to trace in outline the course of reasoning by which, as I am convinced, what is commonly known as evangelical Christianity may be coordinated with other beliefs, scientific or philosophical, which men of education deem themselves justified in confidently adopting. I have also forborne, for the sake of brevity, to discuss some of the dogmas which would naturally be suggested by the title of the book, and have limited myself to the consideration of those which I conceive to be of the first importance. Book Orthodox Christianity Reasonable Faith

Download or read book Orthodox Christianity Reasonable Faith written by Father Peter Farrington and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Father Peter Farrington considers the reasonable evidence for the Orthodox Christian Faith, and responds to criticisms of Christianity being a leap in the dark, or equivalent to believing in fairy stories. He begins by showing the reasonable evidence that God exists, that there was person called Jesus, and that his life and teaching are reasonably preserved in the Gospels. He asks what sort of person Jesus was, and what he said about himself. Father Peter reflects on the problem of evil and suffering in the world and shows that this is not inconsistent with the existence of God. He concludes by examining some of the evidence that makes it reasonable to believe that the Orthodox Church is the same Church that Jesus established in the first century, and describes some of the basic teachings of the Orthodox Church, which the reasonable nature of the Orthodox Faith demand be taken seriously.

Book A Critique of Orthodox Economics

Download or read book A Critique of Orthodox Economics written by H. Lydall and published by Springer. This book was released on 1998-02-09 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern neoclassical economics is a theory of general equilibrium. It is based on highly unrealistic assumptions and yields a number of false predictions. The alternative model, presented in this book, uses a wider definition of technology, and emphasises the role of the entrepreneur as the primary agent of change. Because it takes time for firms to improve their technology, and to acquire the necessary finance for expansion, there are wide differences in firm sizes, and in their profitability. The competitive struggle to develop better technology raises the level of productivity of the whole economy, and leads to higher real incomes.

Book The Doctrine of God in Reformed Orthodoxy Karl Barth and the Utrecht School

Download or read book The Doctrine of God in Reformed Orthodoxy Karl Barth and the Utrecht School written by R.T. te Velde and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-06-27 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Doctrine of God Dolf te Velde examines the interaction of method and content in three historically important accounts of the doctrine of God. Does the method of a systematic theology affect the belief content expressed by it? Can substantial insights be detected that have a regulative function for the method of a doctrine of God? This two-way connection of method and content is investigated in three phases of Reformed theology. The first seeks to discover inner dynamics of Reformed scholastic theology. The second part treats Karl Barth’s doctrine of God as a contrast model for scholasticism, understood in the framework of Barth’s theological method. The third part offers a first published comprehensive description and analysis of the so-called Utrecht School. The closing chapter draws some lines for developing a Reformed doctrine of God in the 21st century.
