Download or read book Systems with Hysteresis written by Fayçal Ikhouane and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-09-27 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hysterisis is a system property that is fundamental to a range of engineering applications as the components of systems with hysterisis are able to react differently to different forces applied to them. Control theory is used to model these complex systems and cause them to behave in the desired manner; the Bouc-Wen model is a well-known semi-physical model that is used extensively to describe the hysterisis of systems in the areas of smart structures and civil engineering. The Bouc-Wen model for system hysterisis has increased in popularity due to its capability of capturing in an analytical form a range of shapes of hysteretic cycles that match the behaviour of a wide class of hysteretic systems. “Systems with Hysterisis: Analysis, Identification and Control using the Bouc-Wen Model” deals with the analysis, identification and control of these systems, and offers a comprehensive and self-contained framework for the study of the Bouc-Wen model. Includes the latest techniques for modelling smart structures and materials Provides a rigorous mathematical treatment of the subject along with practical comments, numerical solutions and a case study of magentorheological (MR) dampers. Begins by analysing the compatibility of the Bouc-Wen model with the laws of physics, and continues to cover the relationship between the model parameters and hysterisis loop, identification of the model parameters and control of systems that include a hysteretic part described by the Bouc-Wen model. Includes case studies covering the identification and control of smart material transducers for use in automotive, aerospace and structural control Systems with Hysterisis: Analysis, Identification and Control using the Bouc-Wen Model offers an invaluable source of ideas, concepts and insights for engineers, researchers, lecturers and senior/ postgraduate students involved in the research, design and development of smart structures and related areas within civil and mechanical engineering. It will also be of interest to readers involved in the wider disciplines of electrical & control engineering, applied mathematics, applied physics and material science.

Download or read book Noise Driven Phenomena in Hysteretic Systems written by Mihai Dimian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-04 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noise-Driven Phenomena in Hysteretic Systems provides a general approach to nonlinear systems with hysteresis driven by noisy inputs, which leads to a unitary framework for the analysis of various stochastic aspects of hysteresis. This book includes integral, differential and algebraic models that are used to describe scalar and vector hysteretic nonlinearities originating from various areas of science and engineering. The universality of the authors approach is also reflected by the diversity of the models used to portray the input noise, from the classical Gaussian white noise to its impulsive forms, often encountered in economics and biological systems, and pink noise, ubiquitous in multi-stable electronic systems. The book is accompanied by HysterSoft© - a robust simulation environment designed to perform complex hysteresis modeling – that can be used by the reader to reproduce many of the results presented in the book as well as to research both disruptive and constructive effects of noise in hysteretic systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Models for Structural Reliability Analysis offers mathematical models for describing load and material properties in solving structural engineering problems. Examples are provided, demonstrating how the models are implemented, and the limitations of the models are clearly stated. Analytical solutions are also discussed, and methods are clearly distinguished from models. The authors explain both theoretical models and practical applications in a clear, concise, and readable fashion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Symposium, held in Torino (lSI, Villa Gualino) July 1-5, 1991 is the sixth of a series of IUTAM-Symposia on the application of stochastic analysis to continuum and discrete mechanics. The previous one, held in Innsbruck (1987), was mainly concentrated on qual itative and quantitative analysis of stochastic dynamical systems as well as on bifurcation and transition to chaos of deterministic systems. This Symposium concentrated on fundamental aspects (stochastic analysis and mathe matical methods), on specific applications in various branches of mechanics, engineering and applied sciences as well as on related fields as analysis of large systems, system identifica tion, earthquake prediction. Numerical methods suitable to provide quantitative results, say stochastic finite elements, approximation of probability distribution and direct integration of differential equations have also been the object of interesting presentations. Specific topics of the sessions have been: Engineering Applications, Equivalent Lineariza tion of Discrete Stochastic Systems, Fatigue and Life Estimation, Fluid Dynamics, Numerical Methods, Random Vibration, Reliability Analysis, Stochastic Differential Equations, System Identification, Stochastic Control. We are indebted to the IUTAM Bureau for having promoted and sponsored this Sympo sium and the Scientific Committee for having collaborated to the selection of participants and lecturers as well as to a prompt reviewing of the papers submitted for publication into these proceedings. A special thank is due to Frank Kozin: the organization of this meeting was for him ';ery important; he missed the meeting but his organizer ability was present.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over a period of several years the field of probabilistic mechanics and com putational mechanics have progressed vigorously, but independently. With the advent of powerful computational hardware and the development of novel mechanical techniques, the field of stochastic mechanics has progressed in such a manner that the inherent uncertainty of quite complicated systems can be addressed. The first International Conference on Computational Stochastic Mechanics was convened in Corfu in September 1991 in an ef fort to provide a forum for the exchanging of ideas on the current status of computational methods as applied to stochastic mechanics and for identi fying needs for further research. The Conference covered both theoretical techniques and practical applications. The Conference also celebrated the 60th anniversary of the birthday of Dr. Masanobu Shinozuka, the Sollenberger Professor of Civil Engineering at Princeton University, whose work has contributed in such a great measure to the development of Computational Stochastic Mechanics. A brief sum mary of his career and achievements are given in the Dedication. This book comprises some of the papers presented at the meeting and cov ers sections on Theoretical Reliability Analysis; Damage Analysis; Applied Reliability Analysis; Theoretical Random Vibrations; Stochastic Finite Ele ment Concept; Fatigue and Fracture; Monte Carlo Simulations; Earthquake Engineering Applications; Materials; Applied Random Vibrations; Applied Stochastic Finite Element Analysis, and Flow Related Applications and Chaotic Dynamics. The Editors hope that the book will be a valuable contribution to the grow ing literature covering the field of Computational Stochastic Mechanics.

Download or read book The Mechanics of Jointed Structures written by Matthew R.W. Brake and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-11 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the challenges inherent in jointed structures and guides researchers to the still-open, pressing challenges that need to be solved to advance this critical field. The authors cover multiple facets of interfacial mechanics that pertain to jointed structures: tribological modeling and measurements of the interface surfaces, constitutive modeling of joints, numerical reduction techniques for structures with joints, and uncertainty quantification and propagation for these structures. Thus, the key subspecialties addressed are model reduction for nonlinear systems, uncertainty quantification, constitutive modeling of joints, and measurements of interfacial mechanics properties (including tribology). The diverse contributions to this volume fill a much needed void in the literature and present to a new generation of joints researchers the potential challenges that they can engage in in order to advance the state of the art. Clearly defines internationally recognized challenges in joint mechanics/jointed structures and provides a comprehensive assessment of the state-of-the-art for joint modeling; Identifies open research questions facing joint mechanics; Details methodologies for accounting for uncertainties (due both to missing physics and variability) in joints; Explains and illustrates best-practices for measuring joints’ properties experimentally; Maximizes reader understanding of modeling joint dynamics with a comparison of multiple approaches.
