Book Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy of Lunar and Terrestrial Minerals

Download or read book Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy of Lunar and Terrestrial Minerals written by Clarence Karr and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy of Lunar and Terrestrial Minerals makes available in a single reference work original descriptions and summaries of the research on infrared and Raman spectroscopy of lunar and terrestrial minerals so that this information will be readily available not only to those researchers in the continuing programs on lunar samples from the completed Apollo series and on the remote sensing of solar system objects, but, in particular, to that much larger group of researchers in government, industry, and universities involved in the many programs on terrestrial minerals and earth sciences by remote sensing. The chapters in this volume are arranged according to spectroscopic technique and/or frequency range rather than application. Thus there are chapters on visible and near-infrared, followed by those on mid-infrared, far-infrared, and Raman spectroscopy. Applications are roughly divided between lunar and terrestrial, although the broad range of interchangeability of applications is obvious in many instances. There are also chapters on remote sensing of space targets and earth sciences; on lunar mineralogy and terrestrial mineralogy and geology; and on structures of lunar minerals and structures of terrestrial minerals.

Book Electrons and Phonons in Layered Crystal Structures

Download or read book Electrons and Phonons in Layered Crystal Structures written by T.J. Wieting and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is devoted to the electron and phonon energy states of inorganic layered crystals. The distinctive feature of these low-dimensional materials is their easy mechanical cleavage along planes parallel to the layers. This feature implies that the chemical binding within each layer is much stronger than the binding between layers and that some, but not necessarily all, physical properties of layered crystals have two-dimensional character. In Wyckoff's Crystal Structures, SiC and related com pounds are regarded as layered structures, because their atomic layers are alternately stacked according to the requirements of cubic and hexagonal close-packing. How ever, the uniform (tetrahedral) coordination of the atoms in these compounds excludes the kind of structural anisotropy that is fundamental to the materials dis cussed in this volume. An individual layer of a layered crystal may be composed of either a single sheet of atoms, as in graphite, or a set of up to five atomic sheets, as in Bi2 Te3' A layer may also have more complicated arrangements of the atoms, as we find for example in Sb S . But the unique feature common to all these materials is 2 3 the structural anisotropy, which directly affects their electronic and vibrational properties. The nature of the weak interlayer coupling is not very well understood, despite the frequent attribution of the coupling in the literature to van der Waals forces. Two main facts, however, have emerged from all studies.

Book Vibrational Infrared and Raman Spectra of Minerals and Related Compounds

This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 1382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents new data on the IR spectra of minerals and on the Raman spectra of more than 2000 mineral species. It also includes examples of IR spectroscopy applications to investigate minerals, and discusses the most important potential applications of Raman spectroscopy in mineralogical research. The book serves as a reference resource and a methodological guide for mineralogists, petrologists and technologists working in the field of inorganic materials.

Book A Comparison of Far Infrared and Raman Spectra of Some Rare Earth Garnet Single Crystals

Download or read book A Comparison of Far Infrared and Raman Spectra of Some Rare Earth Garnet Single Crystals written by J. A. Koningstein and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a comparison of the far-infrared and Raman spectra of some rare earth aluminum garnet crystals it has become possible to assign some electronic Raman transitions. It has also been observed that one of the phonon modes shifts in going from the yttrium aluminum to the ytterbium aluminum garnet compound and there seems no doubt about the assignment of such phonon modes. Book Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy

Download or read book Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy written by Peter Larkin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-11-13 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy, Principles and Spectral Interpretation, Second Edition provides a solid introduction to vibrational spectroscopy with an emphasis on developing critical interpretation skills. This book fully integrates the use of both IR and Raman spectroscopy as spectral interpretation tools, enabling the user to utilize the strength of both techniques while also recognizing their weaknesses. This second edition more than doubles the amount of interpreted IR and Raman spectra standards and spectral unknowns. The chapter on characteristic group frequencies is expanded to include increased discussions of sulphur and phosphorus organics, aromatic and heteroaromatics as well as inorganic compounds. New topics include a discussion of crystal lattice vibrations (low frequency/THz), confocal Raman microscopy, spatial resolution in IR and Raman microscopy, as well as criteria for selecting Raman excitation wavelengths. These additions accommodate the growing use of vibrational spectroscopy for process analytical monitoring, nanomaterial investigations, and structural and identity determinations to an increasing user base in both industry and academia. Integrates discussion of IR and Raman spectra Pairs generalized IR and Raman spectra of functional groups with tables and text Includes over 150 fully interpreted, high quality IR and Raman reference spectra Contains fifty-four unknown IR and Raman spectra, with a corresponding answer key
