Download or read book Raju Who did not go back to England written by Vasudeva and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the story of a person who was born in India under the British rule & grew up in independent India. The story covers the circumstances which forced poverty on him when he was fourteen & still he managed to secure a first division in matriculation. After passing out from his college, he followed the British to their country for four years for further studies. When the Indian youth was queuing to go west for better opportunities, he after having failed to improve his academic or financial status to the level he had desired swam against the current to his mother land, never to look back. The story continues to tell how back in India his contemporaries assisted / resisted him in his prolonged struggle to succeed & how he unwillingly laid down his tools to settle just behind the place of his wok. Apart from his inclinations towards the British, the story dwells on his views, on the futility of Indian partition on the basis of religion, on his aversion to Indian governance/ politics & on his philosophical musings. It also gives an interesting account of the wayside anecdotes during his journey thus far.

Book excerpt: In the tradition of In the Time of the Butterflies and The Kite Runner, a tender, evocative novel about the years leading up to the Sri Lankan civil war * A Library Journal Best Indie Fiction of 2013 * A Largehearted Boy Best Book of the Year * On the day the Herath family moves in, Sal Mal Lane is still a quiet street, disturbed only by the cries of the children whose triumphs and tragedies sustain the families that live there. As the neighbors adapt to the newcomers in different ways, the children fill their days with cricket matches, romantic crushes, and small rivalries. But the tremors of civil war are mounting, and the conflict threatens to engulf them all. In a heartrending novel poised between the past and the future, the innocence of the children—a beloved sister and her overprotective siblings, a rejected son and his twin sisters, two very different brothers—contrasts sharply with the petty prejudices of the adults charged with their care. In Ru Freeman's masterful hands, On Sal Mal Lane, a story of what was lost to a country and her people, becomes a resounding cry for reconciliation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the first sentence to the last paragraph the authors captured my curiosity as I journeyed through the thought-provoking story of an innocent young woman navigating a world full of deception. Her pure intent was to live her life through “The Great Creator’s Love and plan for her”. Reality was not so kind as the Twists, turns, and elusive truth she sought to find unfolds. At the most devastating time she would have to choose. “I am sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you. Father forgive, they know not what they do.” Setting down the burden of shame she steps forward to honor “The Great Creator” courageous plan for her. What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? This story may dispel lingering indoctrinations, and perceptions. Beliefs that no longer serve you as an older wiser Being. Where you too may choose to live from a place of LOVE. -Sylvia - C.I.D.E.S.C.O.

Book The Audacious Raconteur

Download or read book The Audacious Raconteur written by Leela Prasad and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-15 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can a subject be sovereign in a hegemony? Can creativity be reined in by forces of empire? Studying closely the oral narrations and writings of four Indian authors in colonial India, The Audacious Raconteur argues that even the most hegemonic circumstances cannot suppress "audacious raconteurs": skilled storytellers who fashion narrative spaces that allow themselves to remain sovereign and beyond subjugation. By drawing attention to the vigorous orality, maverick use of photography, literary ventriloquism, and bilingualism in the narratives of these raconteurs, Leela Prasad shows how the ideological bulwark of colonialism—formed by concepts of colonial modernity, history, science, and native knowledge—is dismantled. Audacious raconteurs wrest back meanings of religion, culture, and history that are closer to their lived understandings. The figure of the audacious raconteur does not only hover in an archive but suffuses everyday life. Underlying these ideas, Prasad's personal interactions with the narrators' descendants give weight to her innovative argument that the audacious raconteur is a necessary ethical and artistic figure in human experience. Thanks to generous funding from Duke University, the ebook editions of this book are available as Open Access volumes from Cornell Open (cornellpress.cornell.edu/cornell-open) and other repositories.

Download or read book That Curved Ball written by Rita Penheiro and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-10-16 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pages in this book have come about mostly because, I believe, of the ideas, thoughts and guidance of my spiritual guides, and until I finally put them down on paper, the flow kept on and on to turn it into this beautiful book, which I hope you enjoy reading. Yes, it is very fictional and relates to no one, but if it does, it is purely co-incidental. Many messages come through in this book, relating to today's society and times, which were never given a thought to before, and off course there are others also, relating to life, how we live it, and how we solve it, as if we were a puzzle.

Book Red Lipstick The Men in My Life HB

Download or read book Red Lipstick The Men in My Life HB written by Laxmi and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world keeps taunting him as girlish but the fact is that, biologically, he is a boy. And, he is always attracted to guys. Is Laxmi both a man and a woman? Or, perhaps, neither a man nor a woman? The first inklings and stirrings of lust that Laxmi remembers came from noticing big, strong arms, the hint of a guy's moustache over his lips, billboards that advertised men's underwear. Laxmi found this puzzling initially. Was there a woman inside him who couldn't really express herself because of some last-minute mix-up that god did at the time of his birth? Struggling with such existential questions, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, eminent transgender activist, awakens to her true self: She is Laxmi, a hijra. In this fascinating narrative Laxmi unravels her heart to tell the stories of the men-creators, preservers, lovers, benefactors, and abusers-in her life. Racy, unapologetic, dark and exceptionally honest, these stories open a window to a brave new world.
