Book excerpt: Excerpt from Railway Nationalization Ever since a date even earlier than that at which Bentham's editor, Sir John Bowring, called meetings to advocate the State Purchase of Railways, I have favoured the reform which Mr. Clement Edwards with much force urges, but have feared - so great is the power of the Companies in Parliament - that we should be made to pay for it too high a price.
