Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early childhood education has always provoked passionate feelings amongst stakeholders at all levels, from practitioners working with children and families in pre-school and school settings, to advisers, managers, politicians, and academics The purpose of this reader is to examine change, transformation and continuity, and to present indicative scholarship in relation to five key themes: theoretical perspectives on learning curriculum and pedagogy play policy professionalism and research methods Within each theme, the readings have been chosen to exemplify national and international perspectives and trends. This is not to present a homogenised view of early childhood provision and services across cultural contexts; rather the intention is to take a critical perspective on past, present and future directions, and to identify some of the challenges, dilemmas and contradictions posed in research and scholarship.

This book was released on with total page 1278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sri Chaitanya-charitamrta is the main work on the life and teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the incarnation of Krishna who appeared in India five hundred years ago. Lord Chaitanya introduced the chanting of the holy names of God as the prescribed method of God-realization for our time. He began what is today called the Hare Krishna movement, since the movement's founder, Srila Prabhupada, comes in the Chaitanya line of spiritual masters. Lord Chaitanya transformed the face of India in four respects: philosophically, by encountering, defeating and converting the greatest philosophers and thinkers of His day; religiously, by organizing the largest, most widespread theistic movement in India's history; socially, by His strong challenges to the religious inequities of the caste system; politically, by His organization of a massive civil disobedience movement in Bengal, more than four centuries before Gandhi. This English translation with commentary, by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, reveals his consummate Bengali and Sanskrit scholarship, his intimate familiarity with the precepts of Sri Chaitanya, and his pure devotion to God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is a unique portrait of a group of working-class families whose 4 year old children start school on the cusp of the millenium in urban Britain. It is a brilliant analysis of ways in which parents, children and teachers strive to cross cultural and linguistic boundaries to come to a common understanding of 'school'. Beautifully written, it is essential reading for all involved in the education of young children." - Eve Gregory, Professor of Language and Culture in Education, Goldsmiths, University of London. "This book will challenge and support practitioners in their quest to improve early childhood practice. The use of theory is 'friendly' and the real-life examples of the experiences of young children and their parents really bring home to the reader the experience of inequality. Readers will rarely find a book which expresses the complexity of educational experience in such an accessible form. This is a valuable book for every level of early years training." - Iram Siraj-Blatchford, Professor of Early Childhood Education, Institute of Education, University of London. How does the home experience of children from poor and ethnic minority communities influence their adaptation to school? How does the traditional 'child-centred' and progressive pedagogy of early years classrooms meet the needs of children from culturally diverse backgrounds? Starting School seeks to address these key questions by tracing the learning experiences of individual children from a poor inner-urban neighbourhood - half of them from Bangladeshi families - as they acquire the knowledge appropriate to their home culture and then take this knowledge to their reception class. The book highlights the small differences in family life - in parenting practices, in perspectives on childhood, and in beliefs about work and play - which make a big difference to children's adaptations to school. In other words, it shows how children succeed and fail from their early days at school. It shows too how the 'good intentions' of good teachers can sometimes allow children from certain backgrounds to become disaffected, and learn to fail; and it suggests ways of working with children from working class and multicultural families which may help both children and parents to gain a better understanding of school learning in the UK.

  • ISBN : 9390085624
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book Goldie written by Anitaa Padhye and published by Manjul Publishing. This book was released on 2020 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Known to the world as Goldie, Vijay Anand, the visionary Hindi film director and screenwriter, whose oeuvre includes such respected and successful films as Kala Bazaar, Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Guide, Teesri Manzil, Jewel Thief, Johny Mera Naam, Tere Mere Sapne, Blackmail and Kora Kagaz, amongst many more, has remained largely uncelebrated. Goldie was one of the few ‘complete’ filmmakers in the Hindi film industry, who had the ability to look beyond stereotypes and help actors re-invent themselves. A rare non-filmy personality in the midst of the otherwise quite filmy industry folks, he always saw himself as a student and an explorer, and is credited with bringing newness and slickness to Hindi cinema. In his prolific career, Goldie directed 17 movies, acted in 19 and wrote over a dozen, many under the family banner—Navketan Films, established in 1949 by his two older brothers, the iconic star-actor Dev Anand, and director Chetan Anand. In Goldie: The Man and His Movies, which is the only published biography of this astoundingly talented filmmaker, Anitaa Padhye, film journalist and author, chronicles the life and times of this maverick artist, as narrated to her by the man himself over many meetings, prior to his sudden demise on 23 February 2004.
