Book Radiation from Intense Electron Beams Associated with the Cerenkov Mechanism Classic Reprint

Download or read book Radiation from Intense Electron Beams Associated with the Cerenkov Mechanism Classic Reprint written by John R. Neighbours and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Radiation From Intense Electron Beams Associated With the Cerenkov Mechanism Normally a charge or system of charges moving at constant velocity does not radiate electromagnetic energy, but if the velocity of the charge is greater than the velocity of light in a medium, radiation occurs. It is broad band; the intensity increases with frequency; and the propagation is confined to a cone, much like a shock wave in air. Equations (7) and(3) in a later section describe these results. In previous work we described theory and experiments showing that this mechanism produces microwaves from bunched electron beams, in addition to the usual optical radiation, as studied by Cerenkov and many others. Book Cerenkov and Sub Cerenkov Radiation from a Charged Particle Beam Classic Reprint

Download or read book Cerenkov and Sub Cerenkov Radiation from a Charged Particle Beam Classic Reprint written by John R. Neighbours and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cerenkov and Sub-Cerenkov Radiation From a Charged Particle Beam In previous work? We have given a form for the Cerenkov radiation from periodic electron bunches propagating in a homogeneous medium. The method involved construction of the Fourier components of the field which in turn led to the Poynting vector expressed as harmonics of the basic electron beam frequency. The important results were that the Cerenkov cone angle is shifted substantially beyond the ordinary Cerenkov angle 60, (00560 and broadened so that a significant fraction of the power radiated appears at angles other than 60. As either frequency or the path length of the beam increases, the cone angle was found to approach 60 with an increasing fraction of the total radiation being radiated at that angle. This book was released on 2006-08-26 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spurred by the development of high-current, high-energy relativistic electron beams, this books delves into the foundations of a device- and geometry-independent theoretical treatment of a large collection of interacting and radiating electron bunches. Covers a broad swath of topics, from the radiation emission of a single charged particle to collective behaviour of a high-density electron bunch, to application in modern sytems.

Book Cerenkov Radiation from Bunched Electron Beams Revised

Download or read book Cerenkov Radiation from Bunched Electron Beams Revised written by F. R. Buskirk and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cerenkov radiation is calculated for electron beams which exceed the velocity of radiation in a non dispersive dielectric medium. The electron beam is assumed to be bunched as emitted from a travelling wave accelerator, and the emission region is assumed to be finite. Predictions include: emission at harmonics of the bunch rate; coherence of radiation at low frequencies; smearing of the emission angle for finite emission regions; and explicit evaluation of power spectrum in terms of bunch dimensions. The results apply to microwave emission from fast electrons in air or other dielectrics. (Author).

Book Emission Threshold for Cerenkov Radiation Classic Reprint

Download or read book Emission Threshold for Cerenkov Radiation Classic Reprint written by John R. Neighbours and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Emission Threshold for Cerenkov Radiation Recently8 we have corrected an error appearing in the appendix of reference 1 and have shown that the radiated energy from a single charge bunch has the same form as the radiated power from a beam of periodic bunches. Consequently the results of this paper are applicable to both. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Cerenkov Radiation

Download or read book Cerenkov Radiation written by Ahmet Saglam and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cerenkov radiation is calculated for electron beams which exceed the velocity of radiation in a nondispersive dielectric medium. The electron beam is assumed to be bunched as emitted from a travelling wave accelerator, and the emission region is assumed to be finite. Predictions include (a) emission at harmonics of the bunch rate, (b) coherence of radiation at low frequencies, (c) smearing of the emission angle for finite emission regions, (d) explicit evaluation of power spectrum in terms of bunch dimensions. The results of theory are applied to microwave emission form fast electrons in air for different lengths of the air path. Problems encountered during the experiment are discussed and suggestions for continuing work are provided.

Book Cerenkov Radiation and Electromagnetic Pulse Produced by Electron Beams Traversing a Finite Path in Air

Download or read book Cerenkov Radiation and Electromagnetic Pulse Produced by Electron Beams Traversing a Finite Path in Air written by Fred Ramon Buskirk and published by . This book was released on 1986* with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coherent Cerenkov radiation has been investigated previously in the time domain for an infinite path. The present calculations for a finite path length show an effect analogous to diffraction (in the frequency domain) in which radiation fields appear both at Cerenkov angles and at other angles. The latter have previously been named electromagnetic pulse fields. Keywords: Radiation Radio Frequency Emissions; Relativistic Electron Beams; Electrons in Air.

Book Strong Submillimeter Radiation from Intense Relativistic Electron Beams

Download or read book Strong Submillimeter Radiation from Intense Relativistic Electron Beams written by V. L. Granatstein and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiation from an intense relativistic electron beam at submillimeter wavelengths has been measured with bandpass and high-pass filters. Radiated power about 100 kW has been measured in the passband 390 micrometers - 540 micrometers. The generation of this radiation depends on giving the electrons a large energy component transverse to the magnetic field. Coherent wave generation mechanisms which may account for the observed radiation are discussed. (Author).

Book Quasi Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission

Download or read book Quasi Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission written by Jay L. Hirshfield and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-12 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between February 17 and 20, 2004, approximately fifty scientists from ten countries came together at the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP), Nizhny Novgorod, Russia to participate in a NATO sponsored Advanced Research Workshop whose appellation is re flected in the title of this volume, namely Quasi Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission. The fashionable label “quasi optical ” has come into use in recent decades to denote structures whose characteristic dimensions exceed (sometimes by large factors) the free space radiation wavelength. Such structures were and are developed to replace the traditional single eigenmode ones in situations when high frequenc ies (short wavelengths) are combined with high powers, a combination that could otherwise lead to RF breakdown and high Ohmic wall heating rates. Treatments of guided wave propagation in oversized structures is aimed at pr eserving the propagating field coherence and thus to provide efficient transmission of RF power to remote destinations such as antennas, microwave ovens, plasma chemical reactors, nuclear fusion machines, and the like.
