Download or read book Numerical Solution of Ordinary Differential Equations written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1971-03-31 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation;methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; andmethods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particularbranches, such as optimal filtering and information compression.- Best operator approximation,- Non-Lagrange interpolation,- Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform- Generalised low-rank matrix approximation- Optimal data compression- Optimal nonlinear filtering

Download or read book Mathematical Methods in Interdisciplinary Sciences written by Snehashish Chakraverty and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-06-15 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brings mathematics to bear on your real-world, scientific problems Mathematical Methods in Interdisciplinary Sciences provides a practical and usable framework for bringing a mathematical approach to modelling real-life scientific and technological problems. The collection of chapters Dr. Snehashish Chakraverty has provided describe in detail how to bring mathematics, statistics, and computational methods to the fore to solve even the most stubborn problems involving the intersection of multiple fields of study. Graduate students, postgraduate students, researchers, and professors will all benefit significantly from the author's clear approach to applied mathematics. The book covers a wide range of interdisciplinary topics in which mathematics can be brought to bear on challenging problems requiring creative solutions. Subjects include: Structural static and vibration problems Heat conduction and diffusion problems Fluid dynamics problems The book also covers topics as diverse as soft computing and machine intelligence. It concludes with examinations of various fields of application, like infectious diseases, autonomous car and monotone inclusion problems.

Download or read book Applied Mathematics And Modeling For Chemical Engineers written by Richard G. Rice and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-10-16 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Second Edition of the go-to reference combines the classical analysis and modern applications of applied mathematics for chemical engineers. The book introduces traditional techniques for solving ordinary differential equations (ODEs), adding new material on approximate solution methods such as perturbation techniques and elementary numerical solutions. It also includes analytical methods to deal with important classes of finite-difference equations. The last half discusses numerical solution techniques and partial differential equations (PDEs). The reader will then be equipped to apply mathematics in the formulation of problems in chemical engineering. Like the first edition, there are many examples provided as homework and worked examples.

Download or read book A Concise Introduction to Numerical Analysis written by A. C. Faul and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides an accessible and concise introduction to numerical analysis for upper undergraduate and beginning graduate students from various backgrounds. It was developed from the lecture notes of four successful courses on numerical analysis taught within the MPhil of Scientific Computing at the University of Cambridge. The book is easily accessible, even to those with limited knowledge of mathematics. Students will get a concise, but thorough introduction to numerical analysis. In addition the algorithmic principles are emphasized to encourage a deeper understanding of why an algorithm is suitable, and sometimes unsuitable, for a particular problem. A Concise Introduction to Numerical Analysis strikes a balance between being mathematically comprehensive, but not overwhelming with mathematical detail. In some places where further detail was felt to be out of scope of the book, the reader is referred to further reading. The book uses MATLAB® implementations to demonstrate the workings of the method and thus MATLAB's own implementations are avoided, unless they are used as building blocks of an algorithm. In some cases the listings are printed in the book, but all are available online on the book’s page at www.crcpress.com. Most implementations are in the form of functions returning the outcome of the algorithm. Also, examples for the use of the functions are given. Exercises are included in line with the text where appropriate, and each chapter ends with a selection of revision exercises. Solutions to odd-numbered exercises are also provided on the book’s page at www.crcpress.com. This textbook is also an ideal resource for graduate students coming from other subjects who will use numerical techniques extensively in their graduate studies.
Download or read book Solving Ordinary Differential Equations II written by Ernst Hairer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Whatever regrets may be, we have done our best." (Sir Ernest Shackleton, turning back on 9 January 1909 at 88°23' South.) Brahms struggled for 20 years to write his first symphony. Compared to this, the 10 years we have been working on these two volumes may even appear short. This second volume treats stiff differential equations and differential alge braic equations. It contains three chapters: Chapter IV on one-step (Runge Kutta) methods for stiff problems, Chapter Von multistep methods for stiff problems, and Chapter VI on singular perturbation and differential-algebraic equations. Each chapter is divided into sections. Usually the first sections of a chapter are of an introductory nature, explain numerical phenomena and exhibit numerical results. Investigations of a more theoretieal nature are presented in the later sections of each chapter. As in Volume I, the formulas, theorems, tables and figures are numbered consecutively in each section and indicate, in addition, the section num ber. In cross references to other chapters the (latin) chapter number is put first. References to the bibliography are again by "author" plus "year" in parentheses. The bibliography again contains only those papers which are discussed in the text and is in no way meant to be complete.
