However, the novel is broad-based, and thus covers several significant aspects of everyday life. For example, it illustrates how men who become workaholics have very little time for their wives or partner, and hence, open avenues or expose them to waiting vultures. It also deals with the impact of lack of sexual compatibility as well as the effects of the excessive use of alcohol leading to impotence and how this, too, can cause the woman to become vulnerable. There are, however, some women who do not take everything that vicious men have to give out. Two such women in the book are Marva and Denise. These two women, after having their feelings hurt, went on a vengeful spree against men; taking all that they could get, and eventually joining forces to shatter one of these men, Tom Branche, who was having an affair with them both. The book does show, however, that anyone going after revenge not only succeeds in destroying the intended victim, but also end up destroying themselves as well. Finally, the book provides a summary that opens the eyes of the blind on this sensitive topic. Facts are highlighted that put women in a position to clearly see the course of action they can take to avoid abuse. In fact, some of the issues in the book itself allows them to see how the abuse can and does occur. What makes the book great is that it is not only informative and highlights the issue but goes on to provide solutions.

Each woman plays her part in her generation. She interacts with and advises her husband, seeking to achieve both present and future successes for her family. These women act decisively at crucial points; through their actions and words, their family dynamics change irrevocably. Unlike their husbands, we know little of their unspoken thoughts or actions. What the text in Genesis does share shows that these women are perceptive and judicious, often seeing the grand scheme with clarity. While their stories are told in Genesis, in the post-biblical world of the Pseudepigrapha, their stories are retold in new ways. The rabbis also speak of these women, and contemporary scholars and feminists continue to explore the Matriarchs in Genesis and later literature. Using extensive quotations, we present these women through five lenses: the Bible, Early Extra-Biblical Literature, Rabbinic Literature, Contemporary Scholarship, and Feminist Thought. In addition, we consider Hagar, Abraham's second wife and the mother of Ishmael, as well as Bilhah and Zilpah, Jacob's third and fourth wives.

Woolf's encounters with and uses of Greek tragedy fantasize an alternative perceptual capacity that correlates to feminine (and feminist) modes, which are depicted in her writings as alternately defiant and choral. In this scheme, Greek tragedy is something of a dreamland, the mysterious dynamics of which Woolf treats as transcending cultural attitudes that hinge upon imperialist adventuring and violence. As scholars have recognized, especially in recent decades, the exoticizing gestures central to the work of so many modernists have uncomfortable political underpinnings, since they frequently inhabit imperialist and colonialist perspectives while appearing to critique them. Unlike most scholars, Nancy Worman argues that Woolf is no exception, although the feminism and humour that inflects so many "Greek" elements in her work saves it from the worst offenses.
