Book RACE THE RENEWAL OF THE CHUR

Download or read book RACE THE RENEWAL OF THE CHUR written by Will D. Campbell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-18 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Race and the Renewal of the Church Race and the renewal OF the church is wrought out of the frustrations and loneliness of one who has borne the brunt of the churches' witness in this greatest of all social problems. It is an angry but a com passionate book. Its anger is muted by a deep sense of the tragedy of sin with which the whole struggle is suffused and by its realism about the necessary means by which the church can break through to the segregationist within its own ranks. Above the pessimism concerning the wit ness of white Protestantism for racial justice there is here an overarching Spirit of compassion for the fractured com munity of mankind and a confidence in the victory which God can bring out of the weakness of his church. Book Racial Integration in the Church of Apartheid

Download or read book Racial Integration in the Church of Apartheid written by Marthe Hesselmans and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Racial Integration in the Church of Apartheid Marthe Hesselmans uncovers the post-apartheid transformation of South Africa’s Dutch Reformed Church. This church once constituted the religious pillar of the Afrikaner apartheid regime (1948-1994). Today, it seeks to unite the communities it long segregated into one multiracial institution. Few believe this will succeed. A close look inside congregations reveals unexpected stories of reconciliation though. Where South Africans realize they need each other to survive, faith offers common ground – albeit a feeble one. They show the potential, but also the limits of faith communities untangling entrenched national and racial affiliations. Linking South Africa’s post-apartheid transition to religious-nationalist movements worldwide, Hesselmans offers a unique perspective on religion as source of division and healing.

Book Negotiating Racial Politics in the Family

Download or read book Negotiating Racial Politics in the Family written by Barbara Henkes and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-05-06 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is situated at the cutting edge of the political-ethical dimension of history writing. Henkes investigates various responsibilities and loyalties towards family and nation, as well as other major ethical obligations towards society and humanity when historical subjects have to deal with a repressive political regime. In the first section we follow pre-war German immigrants in the Netherlands and their German affiliation during the era of National Socialism. The second section explores the positions of Dutch emigrants who settled after the Second World War in Apartheid South Africa. The narratives of these transnational agents and their relatives provide a lens through which changing constructions of national identities, and the acceptance or rejection of a nationalist policy on racial grounds, can be observed in everyday practice.
