Book Mendelian Inheritance in Man

Download or read book Mendelian Inheritance in Man written by Victor A. McKusick and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mendelian Inheritance in Man: Catalogs of Autosomal Dominant, Autosomal Recessives, and X-Linked Phenotypes presents catalogs in connection with the genetics of the X chromosome. This book provides a catalog of dominant phenotypes and covers other entries, including anomalous hemoglobin, red cell antigenic types, leukocyte types, and serum protein types. This book begins with an overview of how to use the catalogs wherein two classes of entries have been made in each of the catalogs. This text then explains that each entry consists of three parts, namely, the preferred designation, a brief description of the phenotype with genetic information, and key references. This book discusses as well that in the case of recessives, manifestations in heterozygotes are usually listed. The reader is also introduced to the definition of dominant and recessive used in the preparation of the catalogs. This book is a valuable resource for experimental geneticists, physicians, and research workers.

Book Cytokines Cholera and the Gut

Download or read book Cytokines Cholera and the Gut written by Gerald T. Keusch and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the role of peptide mediators in the intestinal responses to infectious and inflammatory challenges presented by diverse disease states, including inflammatory bowel disease and infectious diarrheas and dysenteries, and the epidemiology and pathogenesis of cholera and related diarrheal diseases. The more than 40 papers included in the volume are written by leading researchers working on cytokines and mucosal responses. The papers are the results of interactive scientific research between investigators from the U.S. and Japan, through a group of panels focusing on the following specific areas of interest: Malnutrition, which recognizes the role of nutrition in human health and disease; and Cholera and Related Diarrheal Diseases, which includes scientific approaches to the study of cholera and other enteric infections. The focus of the book is on new scientific information concerning the epidemiology, pathogenesis, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic and therapeutic advances in the field. This book will be of great interest to professionals and students in the fields of infectious diseases, gastroenterology, cytokine biology, pharmaceuticals and public health.

Book Handbook Of Porous Materials Synthesis Properties Modeling And Key Applications In 4 Volumes

Download or read book Handbook Of Porous Materials Synthesis Properties Modeling And Key Applications In 4 Volumes written by and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 1495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This four-volume handbook gives a state-of-the-art overview of porous materials, from synthesis and characterization and simulation all the way to manufacturing and industrial applications. The editors, coming from academia and industry, are known for their didactic skills as well as their technical expertise. Coordinating the efforts of 37 expert authors in 14 chapters, they construct the story of porous carbons, ceramics, zeolites and polymers from varied viewpoints: surface and colloidal science, materials science, chemical engineering, and energy engineering. Volumes 1 and 2 cover the fundamentals of preparation, characterisation, and simulation of porous materials. Working from the fundamentals all the way to the practicalities of industrial production processes, the subjects include hierarchical materials, in situ and operando characterisation using NMR, X-Ray scattering and tomography, state-of-the-art molecular simulations of adsorption and diffusion in crystalline nanoporous materials, as well as the emerging areas of bio-artificing and drug delivery. Volume 3 focuses on porous materials in industrial separation applications, including adsorption separation, membrane separation, and osmotic distillation. Finally, and highly relevant to tomorrow's energy challenges, Volume 4 explains the energy engineering aspects of applying porous materials in supercapacitors, fuel cells, batteries, electrolysers and sub-surface energy applications. The text contains many high-quality colourful illustrations and examples, as well as thousands of up-to-date references to peer-reviewed articles, reports and websites for further reading. This comprehensive and well-written handbook is a must-have reference for universities, research groups and companies working with porous materials.Related Link(s)

Book Cancer Treatment and Survival Site Specific Registries in Japan

Download or read book Cancer Treatment and Survival Site Specific Registries in Japan written by Watanabe and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-11-09 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Japan, the diagnosis and effects of treatment of cancer patients is tracked and evaluated through a registry of the patients. Rather than a demographic or population-based tracking, the Japanese medical community has developed a number of site-specific cancer registries. The registries are administered by the research group or association of medical specialists for the site-specific area. Their promotion of the registries has resulted in national improvements in the diagnosis, surgical techniques, and treatments for cancer. This monograph provides, from each site-specific registration committee, a description, history, number of patients and their clinical characteristics, survival rates by TNM stage, and their time trends in relation to the development of diagnostic methods and elaboration of new treatment. Through greater knowledge has come greater understanding for the medical community of the current diagnostic and therapeutic results for many Japanese cancer patients.

Download or read book Tumor Prevention and Genetics written by Hans-Jörg Senn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hans-Jorg Senn H.-J. Senn (~) Center for Tumor Detection and Prevention, Rorschacherstr. 150, CH-9006 St. Gallen, Switzerland Clinical oncology has centered mainly on developing new strategies and a multitude of new drugs for fighting relapsing and progressive cancer during the last two decades. Furthermore, it has done this with respectable success in quite a number of neoplastic diseases such as acute leukemias and sarcomas in pediatric patients and certain types of aggressive lymphomas, as well as se lected solid tumors such as testicular cancer and choriocarcinoma in adult age. Curatively intended adjuvant chemo-and endocrine-therapies of several "main killers" among prevalent cancer types, especially breast and colon can cer, have also become successful and health-politically meaningful therapeutic targets [1, 2]. However, the net gain in "cure" of these (mostly pharmacologic) therapeu tic approaches has to be realistically judged as having a moderate impact on the cancer problem as a whole, and the mortality rate of the most frequent tu mor types, which are prevalent in adult life, has with very few exceptions not been substantially decreased over the past two to three decades. Increasingly, health politicians, epidemiologists, and medical journal editors are asking for alternative strategies of lowering cancer incidence and increasing survival, ventilating new and hitherto mostly neglected areas of research such as pri mary and secondary cancer prevention.
