Book Quicklet on Modern Family Season 2

Download or read book Quicklet on Modern Family Season 2 written by Megan Yarnall and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-04-28 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK In this day and age, the definition of "family" is not fixed. Modern Family shows that a family can represent the traditions of family even if they themselves are anything but traditional. The Pritchett family is made up of step-kids, step-parents, mixed races, same sex parents, and adopted children. Nonetheless, the foundations of family and do so in their own hilarious way. Modern Family is a mockumentary which showcases the Pritchett family and their loveable dysfunction. The Pritchett clan is made up of three separate families: Claire and Phil, with their three children Hayley, Alex and Luke, Claires father Jay and his second wife Gloria and stepchild Manny, and Claires brother Mitch and his husband, Cam, along with their adopted daughter Lily. MEET THE AUTHOR Megan Yarnall is a publicist and writer from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She studied English, creative writing, and Italian at Dickinson College, and wrote her thesis on the connections between humans, their bodies, and language. She graduated in 2010 after spending four years organizing all of her colleges concerts. Megan has lived abroad in Italy and loves studying foreign language, linguistics, and writing. Shes also spent some time working for an environmental company and writing about all things green. In her spare time she horseback rides, rock climbs, and travels. Megan also likes hiking through Acadia National Park, warm weather, photography, and doing her own DIY projects. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK The second season of Modern Family pictures the family developing further with more cross over between couples, sibling arguments and comical documentation of growing pains. The producers and writings do an excellent job of keeping the kids in line with the development you would see out of a TV show, rather than have them stuck in a certain age as happens with other shows. First and foremost, Alex and Haley begin showing the occasional sisterly bond, as rough as it may be at times. In one episode, Haley coaches Alex through a new friendship, and in another, through trying to get her first kiss. Though both instances end in disaster, Haley means well. It becomes clear that while Alex generally holds disdain for her sister, Haley can advise her on things like friends and boys. The sisterly fighting is still ever present, with Alex trying to expose Haleys fake job and with her comments about her sisters lackluster academic career. Haley also wont let Alex borrow clothes, and when Alex wears a sweater and accidentally ruins it, all hell breaks loose. Book Quicklet on Modern Family Season 1 CliffsNotes like Book Summary

Download or read book Quicklet on Modern Family Season 1 CliffsNotes like Book Summary written by Luke Trayser and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK For some television comedies, it takes time to create truly memorable episodes. Classic series like Friends, South Park, and Seinfeld needed a season or two to fully flesh out their characters and give them the personality traits we grew to love. Others, like Arrested Development and Curb Your Enthusiasm, wasted no time in cranking out classic dialogue and classic episodes. It’s in this group that ABC’s mockumentary-style comedy Modern Family falls. It hit the ground running in its debut season, netting a Season 1 score of 87 on review aggregator Metacritic. That score made it the top-rated TV comedy of 2009, and the 87 tally trailed only Season 4 of Friday Night Lights. From shore to shore, critics were eager to praise Modern Family’s refreshing take on the American home. The San Francisco Chronicle called it “the best new comedy by far” in a season stacked with great new shows, and the New York Times hailed it as “the best new half hour of funny television.” Even the residents of the White House sang its praises, as President Obama revealed to People that his family’s go-to show to watch together was Modern Family. MEET THE AUTHOR Luke stole an English degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He's been a blogger for nearly a decade, and a digital editor at an ad agency for three years. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Acceptance - Prevalent in just about every Modern Family episode. The couples are at the forefront here, and seem to in a lot of ways be complete opposites. Mitchell is uptight and no-nonsense, while Cam is sensitive and emotional. Phil is young at heart, nerdy, and longs to be the cool parent, whereas Claire is the disciplinarian, the worrier, and eager to prove she’s not as crazy as she once was. Jay and Gloria, for all of their physical differences, are just as dissimilar in their personalities. Gloria is passionate and wears her heart on her sleeve, and Jay avoids confrontation and stifles emotion in favor of manliness. When one of these six people forgets the traits of another (which can happen often because of the stark differences), conflict arises. It’s when each person can be accepted for who he or she is that true happiness emerges (this is fittingly found at the conclusion of each episode)... Buy a copy to keep reading!

Book Quicklet on James Joyce s Ulysses

Download or read book Quicklet on James Joyce s Ulysses written by Nick Lindsey and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-07-30 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK James Joyce was most definitely an artist ahead of his time; and, as is so often the case with prophetic characters of any sort, his ideas and works were met with some resistance by the general public. This is particularly true of Joyce’s masterpiece, Ulysses. Beginning in March 1918, the first few episodes of Ulysses were serialized in the American journal, The Little Review. This continued until December 1920, when “members of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice were shocked by the novel’s masturbation scene and took it upon themselves to block U.S. publication of the full work” (About, Top 10 “Obscene” Literary Classics). For an audience still in many ways straddling the divide between the socially conservative sensibilities of the Victorian era and the newer notions of Modernism, Joyce’s novel must have seemed entirely scandalous, if not entirely incomprehensible. Throughout its pages, the narrative provides a detailed and persistent account of its protagonists’ activities over the course of a single day. It follows them wherever they go, whether it be to the beach, the brothel, a funeral, the newspaper office, the hospital, or the outhouse. The details regarding these locations, and especially the activities and events that occur at each, are presented unapologetically and candidly. In 1921, when the published chapters of Ulysses were taken to court in the United States, the material was officially declared obscene, and any future publication of the full-length novel in the U.S. was banned. Around this same time, the United Kingdom reached a similar conclusion, also barring publication of the novel. Around this same time, the United Kingdom reached a similar conclusion, also barring publication of the novel. Responding to the legal injunctions forbidding the publication of Ulysses in either the U.S. or Great Britain, Joyce published his novel in Paris in 1922. After this initial publication, it took 11 more years before Joyce was able to publish openly and freely in other countries. In 1933, the American publishing company, Random House, along with prominent American lawyer, Morris Ernst, arranged to have a French copy of the novel sent to the United States, which would be seized by customs upon arrival. The seizure occurred according to their plan, and they immediately challenged the act, calling into question the legitimacy of the entire ban against Ulysses. On December 6, 1933, U.S. District Judge John M. Woolsey ruled that the novel was not pornographic, and therefore, was not obscene. This ruling was affirmed by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 1934, and the ban on publication was lifted. Shortly thereafter, in 1936, the United Kingdom also lifted its ban... ...buy the book to read more!

Book A Little History of the World

Download or read book A Little History of the World written by E. H. Gombrich and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: E. H. Gombrich's Little History of the World, though written in 1935, has become one of the treasures of historical writing since its first publication in English in 2005. The Yale edition alone has now sold over half a million copies, and the book is available worldwide in almost thirty languages. Gombrich was of course the best-known art historian of his time, and his text suggests illustrations on every page. This illustrated edition of the Little History brings together the pellucid humanity of his narrative with the images that may well have been in his mind's eye as he wrote the book. The two hundred illustrations—most of them in full color—are not simple embellishments, though they are beautiful. They emerge from the text, enrich the author's intention, and deepen the pleasure of reading this remarkable work. For this edition the text is reset in a spacious format, flowing around illustrations that range from paintings to line drawings, emblems, motifs, and symbols. The book incorporates freshly drawn maps, a revised preface, and a new index. Blending high-grade design, fine paper, and classic binding, this is both a sumptuous gift book and an enhanced edition of a timeless account of human history.

Book The Inner Game of Tennis

Download or read book The Inner Game of Tennis written by W. Timothy Gallwey and published by Random House Trade Paperbacks. This book was released on 1997-05-27 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The timeless guide to achieving the state of “relaxed concentration” that’s not only the key to peak performance in tennis but the secret to success in life itself—now in a 50th anniversary edition with an updated epilogue, a foreword by Bill Gates, and an updated preface from NFL coach Pete Carroll “Groundbreaking . . . the best guide to getting out of your own way . . . Its profound advice applies to many other parts of life.”—Bill Gates, GatesNotes (“Five of My All-Time Favorite Books”) This phenomenally successful guide to mastering the game from the inside out has become a touchstone for hundreds of thousands of people. Billie Jean King has called the book her tennis bible; Al Gore has used it to focus his campaign staff; and Itzhak Perlman has recommended it to young violinists. Based on W. Timothy Gallwey’s profound realization that the key to success doesn’t lie in holding the racket just right, or positioning the feet perfectly, but rather in keeping the mind uncluttered, this transformative book gives you the tools to unlock the potential that you’ve possessed all along. “The Inner Game” is the one played within the mind of the player, against the hurdles of self-doubt, nervousness, and lapses in concentration. Gallwey shows us how to overcome these obstacles by trusting the intuitive wisdom of our bodies and achieving a state of “relaxed concentration.” With chapters devoted to trusting the self and changing habits, it is no surprise then, that Gallwey’s method has had an impact far beyond the confines of the tennis court. Whether you want to play music, write a novel, get ahead at work, or simply unwind after a stressful day, Gallwey shows you how to tap into your utmost potential. In this fiftieth-anniversary edition, the principles of the Inner Game shine through as more relevant today than ever before. No matter your goals, The Inner Game of Tennis gives you the definitive framework for long-term success.

Book Down and Out in Paris and London

Download or read book Down and Out in Paris and London written by George Orwell and published by A G Printing & Publishing. This book was released on 2024-07-07 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There were eccentric characters in the hotel. The Paris slums are a gathering-place for eccentric people—people who have fallen into solitary, half-mad grooves of life and given up trying to be normal or decent. Poverty frees them from ordinary standards of behaviour, just as money frees people from work. Some of the lodgers in our hotel lived lives that were curious beyond words. There were the Rougiers, for instance, an old, ragged, dwarfish couple who plied an extraordinary trade. They used to sell postcards on the Boulevard St Michel. The curious thing was that the postcards were sold in sealed packets as pornographic ones, but were actually photographs of chateaux on the Loire; the buyers did not discover this till too late, and of course never complained. The Rougiers earned about a hundred francs a week, and by strict economy managed to be always half starved and half drunk. The filth of their room was such that one could smell it on the floor below. According to Madame F., neither of the Rougiers had taken off their clothes for four years.
