Book excerpt: You can choose several data access frameworks when building Java enterprise applications that work with relational databases. But what about big data? This hands-on introduction shows you how Spring Data makes it relatively easy to build applications across a wide range of new data access technologies such as NoSQL and Hadoop. Through several sample projects, you’ll learn how Spring Data provides a consistent programming model that retains NoSQL-specific features and capabilities, and helps you develop Hadoop applications across a wide range of use-cases such as data analysis, event stream processing, and workflow. You’ll also discover the features Spring Data adds to Spring’s existing JPA and JDBC support for writing RDBMS-based data access layers. Learn about Spring’s template helper classes to simplify the use of database-specific functionality Explore Spring Data’s repository abstraction and advanced query functionality Use Spring Data with Redis (key/value store), HBase (column-family), MongoDB (document database), and Neo4j (graph database) Discover the GemFire distributed data grid solution Export Spring Data JPA-managed entities to the Web as RESTful web services Simplify the development of HBase applications, using a lightweight object-mapping framework Build example big-data pipelines with Spring Batch and Spring Integration

Book Integrated Management of Technical Documentation

Download or read book Integrated Management of Technical Documentation written by Jirka Hoppe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing documentation is an integral part of any technical product development. A significant amount of time is spent describing the product functionality, giving insights into technical details, providing maintenance instructions, specifying marketing information, writing user manuals, etc. As the creation of such documentation is generally a source of higher production costs, many large companies are realising the need to increase the efficiency of documentation handling. Simple documents consisting of only a few pages can be developed on simple systems. Basic components of such systems are an editor handling text and graphics, file storage, and a printer. Such configurations, however, are not sufficient to handle professional documentation as produced by larger companies. Detailed studies of technical documentation requirements have revealed that in particular the following functionality is not usually provided by such simple documentation systems: Technical documentation is often very large; documents having hundreds or even thousands of pages are not exceptional. Due to size and complexity, technical documentation is developed most often by a team of authors. A system for technical documentation has to provide functionality supporting the organisation of a group of authors. Technical documentation usually consists of many different documents combined into one large documentation for a particular product. The optimum organisation of the storage and retrieval of documents is crucial for the performance and acceptability of the system. The functionality offered by normal file systems is not adequate to organise complex systems.

Book Objects and Databases

Download or read book Objects and Databases written by Alan Dearle and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-09-21 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AccordingtoFrancoisBancillonandWonKim[SIGMODRECORD,Vol.19,No. 4, December 1990], object-oriented databases started in around 1983. Twen- seven years later this publication contains the proceedings of the Third Inter- tional Conference on Object-Oriented Databases (ICOODB 2010). Two questions arise from this – why only the third, and what is of interest in the ?eld of object-oriented databases in 2010? The ?rst question is easy – in the 1980s and 1990s there were a number of conferences supporting the c- munity – the International Workshops on Persistent Object Systems started by Malcolm Atkinson and Ron Morrison, the EDBT series, and the International Workshop on Database Programming Languages. These database-oriented c- ferences complimented other OO conferences including OOPSLA and ECOOP, but towards the end of the last century they dwindled in popularity and ev- tually died out. In 2008 the First International Conference on Object Databases was held in Berlin. In 2009 the second ICOODB conference was held at the ETH in Zurich as a scienti?c peer-reviewed conference. What is particular about ICOODB is that the conference series was est- lished to address the needs of both industry and researcherswho had an interest in object databases, in innovative ways to bring objects and databases together and in alternatives/extensions to relational databases. The ?rst conference set the mould for those to follow – a combination of theory and practice with one day focusing on the theory of object databases and the second focusing on their practical use and implementation.
