Book Queen s Gambit Declined D50 59

Download or read book Queen s Gambit Declined D50 59 written by Bill Harvey and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-24 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queen's Gambit Declined D50-59 The first recorded game using 4...Nbd7 in the QGD was by Emanuel Lasker in 1892 and gained popularity when it was used several times in the Cambridge Springs tournament in 1904. Practitioners of the opening have included Bogoljubov, Smyslov, Kasparov and Carlsen. This Black defense is also popular among amateurs because there are several traps White can fall into. Chapter 6 features puzzles from a favorite opening of Korchnoi, Gligoric and Piket and more recently Radjabov, Nakamura and Carlsen. The Lasker Defense was used by Anand to defeat Topalov in the final game of the 2010 World Championship. Overall, the openings covered in this book are solid but either side can open lines of play in and around the center and should be aware of the abundant tactical possibilities if the pressure at the center is released.A better way to study tactics This volume is indexed by ECO classification so that the reader can focus on his or her area of expertise. Each of these sections contains their own pitfalls and traps. It is more fruitful to study the tactics of an opening you might encounter as White or Black than to study the knight fork, pin or skewer, one tactic at a time. When the type of tactic is provided with the puzzle, it is already half solved. Study the more common tactics found within an opening you face and you will come away with an understanding of the real dynamics of the opening and pick up tactics you can already use.

Book Queen s Gambit Accepted D20 29

Download or read book Queen s Gambit Accepted D20 29 written by Bill Harvey and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-11 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Queen's Gambit Accepted is one of the oldest openings. It comprises one of the chapters of the Göttingen manuscript, c.1490, the earliest known work devoted entirely to modern chess. Twenty of the today's top 50 chess players play the QGA. It's popularity has increased steadily over the last 20 years. After 1.d4 d5 2.c4 dxc4, Black yields the center and increases the scope and dynamics of every piece. This is an opening that gives the advantage to the stronger tactical player, There are numerous sacrifices on both sides. In open games such as the QGA, attention to tactics is a more effective alternative to memorizing long variations. This volume is indexed by ECO classification so that the reader can focus on his or her area of expertise. This is a collection of 436 chess puzzles culled from thousands of QGA miniatures where decisive positions are reached in 25 moves or less. They are chosen only if there is only one winning move, i.e. a move that results in a clear two pawn advantage or better. Where there is a mate puzzle, only one move by White or Black will result in a forced mate in that speci?c number of moves. Solutions are found at the end of the book along with illustrative variations in italics. All variations have been checked for accuracy and uniqueness by Houdini6, a grandmaster-rated chess engine. Each variation ends with '1-0' (White wins/Black resigns) or '0-1' (Black wins/White resigns).

This first full-scale biography of Nimzowitsch chronicles his early life in Denmark, his family and education, and his fascination with the game that would become the focus of his life. Also included are explorations of his tournament games and records, his dispute with influential chess teacher Siegbert Tarrasch, and his role in the development of Hypermodern Chess. With detailed accounts of nearly 450 games and the only narrative of Nimzowitsch from 1914 to 1924, a period formerly cloaked in mystery, this volume offers the most thorough profile available of one of chess's greatest innovators.

Book My Best Games of Chess 1905 1954

Download or read book My Best Games of Chess 1905 1954 written by Savielly Tartakower and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 733 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Unique Genius of Tartakower! One of the most creative grandmasters ever to play the Royal Game was Savielly Tartakower. His combination of bold play and fascinating writing has long endeared him to chess aficionados worldwide. His classic work of best games has never been available in English algebraic notation. Until now. “Tartakower’s annotations are unlike any other master of his time. He repeatedly stressed the psychological nature of chess, for example. Another ‘Tartakowerism’ is: ‘An attack is against a castled position, weak pawns and, most of all, against the mind of the opponent.’ What he reserves for a footnote, like what conditions are present to make a game a work of art, other authors would need pages to articulate, if they addressed the matters at all. “This book was meant to do what all great annotations do: instruct, explain, and entertain. And it succeeds spectacularly.” – Andy Soltis in his Foreword Experience the unique genius of Savielly Tartakower in this 21st Century Edition of his games collection – 201 games, 49 game fragments, all deeply annotated and quintessentially Tartakower!

Book Why Lasker Matters

Download or read book Why Lasker Matters written by Andrew Soltis and published by Batsford Books. This book was released on 2016-12-08 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emanuel Lasker was the longest-reigning world champion (1894-1921) and remained one of the world's top 10 players for nearly four decades. He competed against top players such as Capablanca, Rubinstein and Alekhine at the height of their game, and was consistently successful, yet almost no one studies his games today. Lasker is often overlooked by the modern chess player, and the secrets of his success remain a mystery. Chess journalist Andy Soltis reveals for the first time the winning formula behind Lasker's phenonemal achievements. With over 100 annotated games, Soltis analyses the tricks, traps and techniques behind the winning moves, and makes Lasker's methods accessible to today's players.

Book The World s Great Chess Games

Download or read book The World s Great Chess Games written by Reuben Fine and published by Ishi Press. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern chess began in 1851 in the London Tournament of the Crystal Palace Exposition. Today, the principles of winning play have been explored and codified: a beginner can learn more about chess in one year, than a master learned a century ago during his entire career. This book is the first detailed presentation, by a Grand Master, of a complete analysis of the world's best games. For all who are interested in the fine points, the author has selected the most notable examples of brilliant play and strategy, the attack and the defense. Among the masters whose best games are to be found in the work are: Alekhine, Botvinnik, Capablanca, Euwe, Lasker, Marshall. Morphy, Rubinstein, Steinitz. Tarrasch, Tartakower, and many, many others. Reuben Fine had not taken chess seriously until late high school days. Yet he became a Grand \faster at the age of twenty-one, and was dual winner of the great AVRO Tournament of 1938. Dr. Fine was officially ranked - on the basis of twenty years of tournament play - as the Number 1 player of the United States, and a Challenger for the World Championship. Dr. Fine taught psychology at the College of the City of New York and at Brooklyn College. He and his family lived in New York City, where he practiced psychoanalysis.

Download or read book Queen s Gambit Declined written by Jacek Ilczuk and published by . This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Vienna variation of the Queen's Gambit Declined is a complex and fascinating system arising after 1 d4 d5 2 c4 e6 3 Nc3 Nf6 4 Nf3 Bb4 5 Bg5 dxc4. This counterattacking weapon has become increasingly popular over the last decade and is frequently seen in games played at the highest level. Many games featuring elite players such as Garry Kasparov, Magnus Carlsen, Vladimir Kramnik, Viswanathan Anand and Lev Aronian have started out in this variation. In this QGD/Nimzo-Indian hybrid play can become extremely sharp very quickly and an in-depth knowledge of the theory is essential. Black will often grab material but will suffer from a lack of development and an exposed king. This variation will suit well-prepared players who have good tactical awareness and relish hand-to-hand combat.

Book Python Strategy

Download or read book Python Strategy written by Tigran Petrosian and published by Quality Chess. This book was released on 2015-06-17 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tigran Petrosian is a titan of chess history. All agree he was a genius of strategy, defense and sacrifice, but didn t he take too many draws? Possibly so, but when Petrosian selected and annotated his best games, that flaw disappeared, leaving only brilliance and profound chess understanding. As Garry Kasparov said: "My games with the 9th World Champion broadened my understanding of chess. Had it not been for these two defeats, I would possibly not have reached the top in chess." This book is an English translation of a Russian classic that is a favorite of many grandmasters, including Mihail Marin and Levon Aronian. A literal translation of the Russian title might be 'The Strategy of Soundness' but Python Strategy is a better fit for Petrosian s more ambitious games. As another World Champion, Max Euwe, once wrote: "Petrosian is not a tiger that pounces on its prey, but rather a python that smothers its victim."

Book The Queen s Gambit Declined Move by Move

Download or read book The Queen s Gambit Declined Move by Move written by Nigel Davies and published by Everyman Chess. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Queen’s Gambit Declined is one of the central pillars of chess opening theory. Virtually every world champion has played the opening with both the white and black pieces and it is a great favorite at all levels in chess. The reason for its enduring popularity is that it is rich in the classic strategic themes. Either side can end up with an isolated d-pawn, White can pursue a queenside initiative while Black counters on the other wing or White can attempt to build a powerful centre that Black hopes to undermine. The Move by Move series provides an ideal format for the keen chessplayer to improve their game. While reading you are continually challenged to answer probing questions – a method that greatly encourages the learning and practising of vital skills just as much as the traditional assimilation of chess knowledge. Carefully selected questions and answers are designed to keep you actively involved and allow you to monitor your progress as you learn. This is an excellent way to study chess while providing the best possible chance to retain what has been learnt. * Everything you need to know about the Queen’s Gambit Declined . * The Q and A approach emphasizes plans and strategies. * Written by an expert on the opening.
