Book Quaternary Glaciations Extent and Chronology

Download or read book Quaternary Glaciations Extent and Chronology written by J. Ehlers and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-10-02 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second of three volumes in which the recent knowledge of the extent and chronology of Quaternary glaciations has been compiled on a global scale. This information is seen as a fundamental requirement, not only for the glacial community, but for the wider user-community of general Quaternary workers. In particular the need for accurate ice-front positions is a basic requirement for the rapidly growing field of palaeoclimate modelling. In order to provide the information for the widest-possible range of users in the most accessible form, a series of digital maps was prepared. The glacial limits were mapped in ArcView, the Geographical Information System (GIS) used by the work group. Included with the publication is a CD with digital maps, showing glacial limits, end moraines, ice-dammed lakes, glacier-induced drainage diversions and the locations of key sections through which the glacial limits are defined and dated. The last deglaciation is also shown in 500 year time-steps. The digital maps in this volume cover the USA and Canada and include Greenland and Hawaii. Both overview maps and more detailed maps at a scale 1: 1,000,000 are provided. Also available:Part I: Europe, ISBN 0-444-51462-7Part III: South America, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, ISBN 0-444-51593-3

Book Quaternary Geology of Southwest New Brunswick with Particular Reference to Fredericton Area 21G

Download or read book Quaternary Geology of Southwest New Brunswick with Particular Reference to Fredericton Area 21G written by N. R. Gadd and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1967 and 1968 the surficial deposits of the St. George (21 G/2) and St. Stephen (21 G/3) map-areas were mapped and the data deposited on open file at the Geological Survey of Canada. This, and previous work by Lee (1957, 1962) in the Frederickton (21 G/15) and Canterbury (21 G/14) map-areas, formed the basis for the present study. This report contains a geological map showing the distribution of unconsolidated glacial and nonglacial deposits at a scale of 1:250,000 and the interpretation of the glacial and post-glacial history of the Frederickton area.

Book Quaternary Geology and Dispersal Patterns of the Canterbury Area New Brunswick

Download or read book Quaternary Geology and Dispersal Patterns of the Canterbury Area New Brunswick written by Solweig Anita Balzer and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surficial geology of the Canterbury map area in southwestern New Brunswick is the result of glaciation in a maritime environment during the Late Wisconsinan. This project was undertaken to describe the nature and style of glacial advance and retreat and to propose a relative chronology of events; to investigate the limits and style of glacial dispersal as indicated by lithological and geochemical components of till and their ability to reflect bedrock sources; and to study ice flow directions and whether they support suspected northward flow in New Brunswick. A total of 273 samples of Late Wisconsinan sediments were collected on a 2 sq km grid during surficial mapping. The samples were analyzed for granulometric, geochemical, and lithological components and results investigated by areal dispersal plots.

Book Quaternary Geology and Dispersal Patterns of the McAdam NTS 21 G 11 Map Area York County New Brunswick

Download or read book Quaternary Geology and Dispersal Patterns of the McAdam NTS 21 G 11 Map Area York County New Brunswick written by Andrew John Stumpf and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was undertaken in the McAdam map area of southwestern New Brunswick as part of the larger Southern Pokiok Batholith Quaternary Geology and Till Geochemistry Project. The study objectives were to examine the dynamics of glacial advance and retreat in the McAdam area, including a study of ice flow directions; to study the specific dispersal patterns of the lithological and geochemical components of ablation and basal tills; and to examine the stratigraphy of the surficial units in the area. As part of the study, 331 samples of glacial sediments were collected on a two-kilometre grid over the map area. Analyses were performed to study the sample compositions and the results were assessed with areal dispersal plots and Spearman correlations. The till components were analysed to compare dispersal of clast and matrix components and to evaluate whether component dispersal adequately reflected bedrock sources.
