Book Quaternary Geology of Door County Wisconsin

Download or read book Quaternary Geology of Door County Wisconsin written by Lee Clayton and published by . This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Door County, the peninsula that separates Green Bay from Lake Michigan, was heavily shaped--and reshaped--by glaciers. This bulletin explains how ice sculpted the bedrock surface, creating intriguing sets of paired bays where channels cut across the peninsula. Water levels also fluctuated drastically, leaving behind evidence of significantly higher shorelines. This 44-page book puts what you see today into context against the county's glacial past. The accompanying map (also sold separately) shows the geology draped over the land surface.

Book Quaternary Glaciations Extent and Chronology

Download or read book Quaternary Glaciations Extent and Chronology written by J. Ehlers and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-10-02 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second of three volumes in which the recent knowledge of the extent and chronology of Quaternary glaciations has been compiled on a global scale. This information is seen as a fundamental requirement, not only for the glacial community, but for the wider user-community of general Quaternary workers. In particular the need for accurate ice-front positions is a basic requirement for the rapidly growing field of palaeoclimate modelling. In order to provide the information for the widest-possible range of users in the most accessible form, a series of digital maps was prepared. The glacial limits were mapped in ArcView, the Geographical Information System (GIS) used by the work group. Included with the publication is a CD with digital maps, showing glacial limits, end moraines, ice-dammed lakes, glacier-induced drainage diversions and the locations of key sections through which the glacial limits are defined and dated. The last deglaciation is also shown in 500 year time-steps. The digital maps in this volume cover the USA and Canada and include Greenland and Hawaii. Both overview maps and more detailed maps at a scale 1: 1,000,000 are provided. Also available:Part I: Europe, ISBN 0-444-51462-7Part III: South America, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, ISBN 0-444-51593-3

Book Geology of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail

Download or read book Geology of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail written by David M. Mickelson and published by University of Wisconsin Pres. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ice Age National Scenic Trail meanders across the state of Wisconsin through scenic glacial terrain dotted with lakes, steep hills, and long, narrow ridges. David M. Mickelson, Louis J. Maher Jr., and Susan L. Simpson bring this landscape to life and help readers understand what Ice Age Wisconsin was like. An overview of Wisconsin’s geology and key geological concepts helps readers understand geological processes, materials, and landforms. The authors detail geological features along each segment of the Ice Age Trail and at each of the nine National Ice Age Scientific Reserve sites. Readers can experience the Ice Age Trail through more than one hundred full-color photographs, scores of beautiful maps, and helpful diagrams. Science briefs explain glacial features such as eskers, drumlins, and moraines. Geology of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail also includes detailed trail descriptions that are cross referenced with the science briefs to make it easy to find the geological terms used in the trail descriptions. Whatever your level of experience with hiking or knowledge of glaciers, this book will provide lively, informative, and revealing descriptions for a new understanding of the shape of the land beneath our feet.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important volume reviews the status of investigations aimed at deciphering the geologic, biogeographic, and archaeological records for the Quaternary Era—the last million years of geologic time-for the area of continental United States. Over eighty Quaternary scientists have contributed to the fifty-five chapters divided into four main parts. Part 1 treats the areal geology, with emphasis on the stratigraphy of the glaciated areas east of the Rocky Mountains, unglaciated eastern and central United States, and western United States. Part 2 deals with biogeography: phytogeography and palynology, animal geography and evolution. Part 3 deals with archaeology prehistory in the northeastern states, southeastern states, plains, desert west, and Pacific Coast including Alaska. Part 4 covers many diverse Quaternary studies on—the continental shelves, isotope geochemistry, paleopedology, the geochemistry of some lake sediments, paleohydrology, glaciers and climate, volcanic-ash chronology, paleomagnetism, neo-tectonics, dendrochronology, and theoretical paleoclimatology. Originally published in 1965. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. Book Quaternary Geology of Sheboygan County Wisconsin

Download or read book Quaternary Geology of Sheboygan County Wisconsin written by Anders Eskil Carlson and published by . This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The landscape of Sheboygan County, like much of Wisconsin, was produced almost entirely by the deposition of sediment from glaciers and the rivers that flowed from them. The nature of these surface sediments greatly affects how we use the land. The nature of farming is also greatly influenced by what was left behind by the glacier. This booklet describes the county's glacial history. Includes a folded map of the glacial geology.
