Book Strengthening the Military Family Readiness System for a Changing American Society

Download or read book Strengthening the Military Family Readiness System for a Changing American Society written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2019-10-25 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. military has been continuously engaged in foreign conflicts for over two decades. The strains that these deployments, the associated increases in operational tempo, and the general challenges of military life affect not only service members but also the people who depend on them and who support them as they support the nation â€" their families. Family members provide support to service members while they serve or when they have difficulties; family problems can interfere with the ability of service members to deploy or remain in theater; and family members are central influences on whether members continue to serve. In addition, rising family diversity and complexity will likely increase the difficulty of creating military policies, programs and practices that adequately support families in the performance of military duties. Strengthening the Military Family Readiness System for a Changing American Society examines the challenges and opportunities facing military families and what is known about effective strategies for supporting and protecting military children and families, as well as lessons to be learned from these experiences. This report offers recommendations regarding what is needed to strengthen the support system for military families.

Book Age Friendly Health Systems

Download or read book Age Friendly Health Systems written by Terry Fulmer and published by Institute for Healthcare Improvement (Ihi). This book was released on 2022-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the US Census Bureau, the US population aged 65+ years is expected to nearly double over the next 30 years, from 43.1 million in 2012 to an estimated 83.7 million in 2050. These demographic advances, however extraordinary, have left our health systems behind as they struggle to reliably provide evidence-based practice to every older adult at every care interaction. Age-Friendly Health Systems is an initiative of The John A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), in partnership with the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA), designed Age-Friendly Health Systems to meet this challenge head on. Age-Friendly Health Systems aim to: Follow an essential set of evidence-based practices; Cause no harm; and Align with What Matters to the older adult and their family caregivers.

Book Concepts and Measurement of Quality of Life in Health Care

Download or read book Concepts and Measurement of Quality of Life in Health Care written by L.Y Nordenfelt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-04-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together a number of scholarly studies on the definition, assessment and measurement of human quality of life. The book contains fundamental analyses of basic concepts such as welfare, wellbeing, happiness and quality of life itself, but contains also discussions on the application of such concepts for measuring purposes mainly in a health care context. Although the approach to these problems in the book is predominantly philosophical, there are also some studies which take a different, mainly sociological and medical, point of view. Most of the authors have a Scandinavian origin and their essays mirror the current debate on quality of life in northern Europe. The book however also contains contributions by distinguished scholars from the U.K., France, Italy and the Netherlands.

Download or read book Longevity and Quality of Life written by Robert N. Butler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nations around the world are experiencing a spectacular increase in longevity. Society as a whole is being challenged by issues arising from this revolution in longevity. Although the specter of the loneliness and existential suffering of older citizens is such that some people under the age of 65 find it difficult to conceive of a long-term future, persons over 85 have proven that aging does not necessarily preclude a healthy and productive life. Extraordinary progress in both curative and preventive medicine justifies optimism about the quality of life and state of well-being that can be enjoyed even in great old age. We should look to professionals in diverse fields to develop creative solutions to the inevitable issues that will arise with aging. Governments must prepare for the future health of their citizens by making long-term investments to educate all sectors of society in the value of good nutrition, exercise, and lifestyles that enhance well-being throughout life. Also, governments should realize that the main cause of health care expenditure is serious illness which occurs in persons of all ages, and not predominantly in older people. Early detection can help save lives, as well. Health and longevity of life will ultimately end as a political issue. What is needed is long-term government investments necessary for a viable health policy. The question arises: will world leaders be able to commit to such a policy? Two major socioeconomic phenomena may have a regulating effect on this issue. The first is the emergence of pressure groups that have come into being in response to a particular health issue, such as AIDS. The second is the emergence of ethics committees in developed nations that deal solely with health issues.

Book The Conceptual frameworks on Quality of Life

Download or read book The Conceptual frameworks on Quality of Life written by Dr. Kasturi Shukla and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2022-01-18 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anything that has to do with people, anywhere across the globe, has surely something to do with their Quality of Life. The concept has been discussed and finds reference right from ancient literature dating back to early Greek philosophers like Socrates (469-399 BC), his student Plato (427/428-348/347BC), and Aristotle (384-322 BC) and stays on the radar of researchers and policy makers until today. Aristotle had written about the nature of happiness and what people require in order to have ‘a good life’. The concept of QoL still holds a strong place in psychological studies, social research as well as policy-making because the various national and international bodies – like World Health Organization, United Nations, and many others, have a strong focus on improving the QoL of the people. The book is a comprehensive compilation of the large number of definitions of QoL, multiple underlying theories, various concepts, derivative models, how QoL is essentially linked with the UN’s SDGs, and the crucial global rankings used for international comparative analysis of QoL. As the world is changing fast, while recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, there are many changing trends that have an integral role in QoL assessments. The book attempts to cover almost all of this in lucid and comprehendible language.
