Book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory

Download or read book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quality assurance program for environmental monitoring that has been developed at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLL) consists of procedure documentation, replicate field-sample analysis, and participation in intercomparison measurements. Sampling, analytical, data processing, and record keeping procedures are described. A replicate-sample collection schedule has been established for all media sampled at LLL. At present, blind-spiked samples are not utilized. Flow rates of air samplers are verified at monthly intervals using a portable, field calibration unit. Intercomparison measurements are made on samples supplied by the Quality Assurance Branch of the Environmental Protection Agency-Environmental Monitoring and Support Laboratory and the Department of Energy-Environmental Measurements Laboratory. Replicate sampling currently accounts for approximately 8% of both the total samples collected and the analyses performed. Including standard, in-house, quality-control checks, and the intercomparison measurements, it is estimated that during 1978 quality assurance will represent about 15% of the total environmental-monitoring effort at LLL.

Book Evaluating the Reproducibility of Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring Data Through Replicate Sample Analysis

Download or read book Evaluating the Reproducibility of Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring Data Through Replicate Sample Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, about 10% of the sampling effort in the environmental monitoring program represents replicate sample collection. Replication of field samples was initiated as part of the quality assurance program for environmental monitoring to determine the reproducibility of environmental measurements. In the laboratory these replicates are processed along with routine samples. As all components of variance are included in analysis of such field samples, comparison of the analytical data from replicate analyses provides a basis for estimating the overall reproducibility of the measurements. The replication study indicates that the reproducibility of environmental radioactivity monitoring data is subject to considerably more variability than is indicated by the accompanying counting errors. The data are also compared with analyses of duplicate aliquots from a well mixed sample or with duplicate aliquots of samples with known radionuclide content. These comparisons show that most of the variability is associated with the collection and preparation of the sample rather than with the analytical procedures.

Book Environmental Monitoring at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory 1982 Annual Report

Download or read book Environmental Monitoring at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory 1982 Annual Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental monitoring efforts spanned air, water, vegetation and foodstuffs, and radiation doses. Monitoring data collection, analysis, and evaluation are presented for air, soils, sewage, water, vegetation and foodstuffs, milk, and general environmental radioactivity. Non-radioactive monitoring addresses beryllium, chemical effluents in sewage, noise pollution, and storm runoff and liquid discharge site pollutants. Quality assurance efforts are addressed. Five appendices present tabulated data; environmental activity concentration; dose calculation method; discharge limits to sanitary sewer systems of Livermore; and sampling and analytical procedures for environmental monitoring. (PSB).

Book Quality Control and Assurance Applied to the Analysis of Environmental Samples Collected from Known Geothermal Sites Final Report

Download or read book Quality Control and Assurance Applied to the Analysis of Environmental Samples Collected from Known Geothermal Sites Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The components of an analytical quality control and assurance program for the analysis of trace toxic and priority pollutants are reviewed in general. It is recommended that these principles be applied to develop increased confidence in a laboratory's analytical accuracy by establishing validated standard operating procedures with built in controls and internal cross checks and developing an approved standard operating procedure for quality assurance consisting of audits and appropriate documentation. It is recommended that interlaboratory comparisons be considered as a means of continually documenting analytical accuracy.

Book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring

Download or read book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring written by Philippe Quevauviller and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is increasingly recognized that the greatest risks of error in environmental analysis lie in the sample preparation rather than the analysis stage. This book describes the precautions that must be taken from the sampling to the sample pretreatment via the storage stage to assure good quality. Typical pitfalls - and recommendations for avoiding them - are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the monitoring of trace contaminants in environmental matrices (e. g., water, sediment, plants, air). This book, based on the experience of specialists, constitutes an invaluable guide to the quality assurance relevant to environmental chemists.
