Book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring

Download or read book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring written by Ganapathy Subramanian and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental technology plays an increasingly important role in today's world. This has led to many new developments in legislation and monitoring of environmental pollutants. A comprehensive treatment of these current trends is presented in this book. The reader is helped by a sound understanding of modern instrumental methods such as GC/MS, thermal desorption and purge-trap methods, that are available to meet these legal requirements. Many practical applications assist familiarization with these techniques. This work pays particular attention to methods of monitoring different types of chemicals ranging from pesticides to industrial pollutants. The description of the different design aspects of instruments and their effects on analysis aids the development of precise instrumental methods for the various specific problems in quality assurance.

Book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring

Download or read book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring written by Philippe Quevauviller and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is increasingly recognized that the greatest risks of error in environmental analysis lie in the sample preparation rather than the analysis stage. This book describes the precautions that must be taken from the sampling to the sample pretreatment via the storage stage to assure good quality. Typical pitfalls - and recommendations for avoiding them - are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the monitoring of trace contaminants in environmental matrices (e. g., water, sediment, plants, air). This book, based on the experience of specialists, constitutes an invaluable guide to the quality assurance relevant to environmental chemists.

Book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory

Download or read book Quality Assurance in Environmental Monitoring at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quality assurance program for environmental monitoring that has been developed at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLL) consists of procedure documentation, replicate field-sample analysis, and participation in intercomparison measurements. Sampling, analytical, data processing, and record keeping procedures are described. A replicate-sample collection schedule has been established for all media sampled at LLL. At present, blind-spiked samples are not utilized. Flow rates of air samplers are verified at monthly intervals using a portable, field calibration unit. Intercomparison measurements are made on samples supplied by the Quality Assurance Branch of the Environmental Protection Agency-Environmental Monitoring and Support Laboratory and the Department of Energy-Environmental Measurements Laboratory. Replicate sampling currently accounts for approximately 8% of both the total samples collected and the analyses performed. Including standard, in-house, quality-control checks, and the intercomparison measurements, it is estimated that during 1978 quality assurance will represent about 15% of the total environmental-monitoring effort at LLL.

Book Quality Assurance for Chemistry and Environmental Science

Download or read book Quality Assurance for Chemistry and Environmental Science written by Günther Meinrath and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-09-27 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metrology and its applications e.g. in chemical or food analysis or in environmental monitoring are entering our daily life. This book provides a basic overview over the relevant metrological concepts like traceability, ISO uncertainties or cause-and-effect diagrams. The applications described in great detail range from progression-of-error type evaluation of the measurement uncertainty budget to complex applications like pH measurement or speciation calculations for aqueous solutions. The consequences of a measurement uncertainty concept for chemical data are outlined for geochemical modeling applied to transport in the subsurface and to nuclear waste disposal. Special sections deal with the deficits of existing thermodynamic data for these applications and with the current position of chemical metrology in respect to other quality assurance measures, e.g. ISO 900x, GLP, European and U.S.-American standards.
