Book Reveal

    Book Details:
  • Author : Meggan Watterson
  • Publisher : Hay House, Inc
  • Release : 2013-04-03
  • ISBN : 1401938213
  • Pages : 217 pages

Download or read book Reveal written by Meggan Watterson and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2013-04-03 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Mary Magdalene Revealed Even as a little girl, Harvard-trained theologian Meggan Watterson knew something was missing from traditional religion – the voices of women. She knew these voices had never been silenced, just buried, so she began a pilgrimage to uncover the presence of the Divine Feminine. What she discovered along the way were not only the many stories, images, and voices of the Divine Feminine in world religions – Christianity’s Mary Magdalene, Hinduism’s Kali Ma, Buddhism’s Green Tara – but also her own spiritual voice, the one veiled beneath years of fear and self-doubt. After a revelation at a sacred site of the Black Madonna in Europe, Meggan realized that being spiritual for her was intricately tied to her view of her body. Rather than transcending the body, denying or ignoring it, she found that she must accept her body as sacred. Only then could she truly hear the voice of unfaltering love inside her – the voice of her soul. Watterson soon found that she was not alone, that there are countless women who long for a spirituality that encourages embodiment, that inspires them to abandon their fears but never themselves, and that shows them how to be led by the audacious and fiercely loving voice of truth inside them. No matter where you rest on the spectrum of spirituality – religious or secular, devout believer or chronic doubter, freelance mystic or borderline agnostic – this story is about the desire to shed what’s holding you back. With passion, humor, poetry, and raw honesty, Meggan provides what religion has left out – a way to lift the veils of your own fear and self-doubt to reveal your soul and find the Divine within.

Download or read book Mojo Workin written by Katrina Hazzard-Donald and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2012-12-30 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bold reconsideration of Hoodoo belief and practice Katrina Hazzard-Donald explores African Americans' experience and practice of the herbal, healing folk belief tradition known as Hoodoo. She examines Hoodoo culture and history by tracing its emergence from African traditions to religious practices in the Americas. Working against conventional scholarship, Hazzard-Donald argues that Hoodoo emerged first in three distinct regions she calls "regional Hoodoo clusters" and that after the turn of the nineteenth century, Hoodoo took on a national rather than regional profile. The spread came about through the mechanism of the "African Religion Complex," eight distinct cultural characteristics familiar to all the African ethnic groups in the United States. The first interdisciplinary examination to incorporate a full glossary of Hoodoo culture, Mojo Workin': The Old African American Hoodoo System lays out the movement of Hoodoo against a series of watershed changes in the American cultural landscape. Hazzard-Donald examines Hoodoo material culture, particularly the "High John the Conquer" root, which practitioners employ for a variety of spiritual uses. She also examines other facets of Hoodoo, including rituals of divination such as the "walking boy" and the "Ring Shout," a sacred dance of Hoodoo tradition that bears its corollaries today in the American Baptist churches. Throughout, Hazzard-Donald distinguishes between "Old tradition Black Belt Hoodoo" and commercially marketed forms that have been controlled, modified, and often fabricated by outsiders; this study focuses on the hidden system operating almost exclusively among African Americans in the Black spiritual underground.

"A book of startling remembrances, revelations, directives, and imperatives, filled with the mysticism, wisdom, and common sense of the African religion of the Mother. It should be read with the same open-minded love with which it was written."—Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple Since its original publication in 1985, Jambalaya has become a classic among Women’s Spirituality Educators, practitioners of traditional Africana religions, environmental activists, and cultural creatives. Book Protest in Putin s Russia

Download or read book Protest in Putin s Russia written by Mischa Gabowitsch and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-12-27 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Russian protests, sparked by the 2011 Duma election, have been widely portrayed as a colourful but inconsequential middle-class rebellion, confined to Moscow and organized by an unpopular opposition. In this sweeping new account of the protests, Mischa Gabowitsch challenges these journalistic clichés, showing that they stem from wishful thinking and media bias rather than from accurate empirical analysis. Drawing on a rich body of material, he analyses the biggest wave of demonstrations since the end of the Soviet Union, situating them in the context of protest and social movements across Russia as a whole. He also explores the legacy of the protests in the new era after Ukraines much larger Maidan protests, the crises in Crimea and the Donbass, and Putins ultra-conservative turn. As the first full-length study of the Russian protests, this book will be of great value to students and scholars of Russia and to anyone interested in contemporary social movements and political protest.

Download or read book Other Russias written by Victoria Lomasko and published by Particular Books. This book was released on 2017-06-15 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a renowned graphic artist and activist, an incredible portrait of life in Russia today 'Victoria Lomasko's gritty, street-level view of the great Russian people masterfully intertwines quiet desperation with open defiance. Her drawings have an on-the-spot immediacy that I envy. She is one of the brave ones' - Joe Sacco, author of Palestine What does it mean to live in Russia today? What is it like to grow up in a forgotten city, to be a migrant worker or to grow old and seek solace in the Orthodox church? For the past eight years, graphic artist and activist Victoria Lomasko has been travelling around Russia and talking to people as she draws their stories. She spent time in dying villages where schoolteachers outnumber students; she stayed with sex workers in the city of Nizhny Novgorod; she went to juvenile prisons and spoke to kids who have no contact with the outside world; and she attended every major political rally in Moscow. The result is an extraordinary portrait of Russia in the Putin years -- a country full of people who have been left behind, many of whom are determined to fight for their rights and for progress against impossible odds. Empathetic, honest, funny, and often devastating, Lomasko's portraits show us a side of Russia that is hardly ever seen.
