Download or read book Truth Plus Love written by Matt Brown and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine what our world might look like if Christians became known for remarkable love, as well as life-giving truth. The stakes are high and the need is great for Christians to represent Jesus to a watching world. And today, we have more influence than ever before--for better and for worse. We are among the first generations to have access to a global megaphone through social media. But it's not enough to speak truth louder to a noisy culture. To counter the reputation Christians have earned, our love must be just as loud. Ask evangelist Matt Brown, and he will tell you Christians today are facing a crisis of influence. In our rush to speak truth to today's tensions, cultural issues, and trending controversies, it becomes all too easy to focus on proving our points rather than extending God's grace. Conversely, when we seek only to love yet never proclaim a better way, we short-circuit God's plan. Truth Plus Love invites you to rediscover the biblical framework for engaging culture as ambassadors of Christ. Through biblical insight, cultural analysis, and practical principles, Matt Brown outlines how to champion truth without compromise, how to love unconditionally, and ultimately, how to step into this great adventure of representing God to the world. It's hard, it's messy, and it's the unfinished project of a lifetime, yet here we find our great adventure: representing God to a watching world.

Download or read book Aphra Behn s Emperor of the Moon and its French Source Arlequin Empereur dans la lune written by Judy A. Hayden and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2019-05-31 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aphra Behn’s spectacular farce, Emperor of the Moon (1687), so engaged audiences that it was restaged well into the eighteenth century. Her play was largely adapted from Anne Mauduit de Fatouville’s Arlequin, Empereur dans la lune (1684), a commedia dell’arte production by the Comédie-Italienne troupe, a performance which also proved immensely popular with Parisian audiences. Within its witty and amusing three acts, Behn’s play explores a number of contemporary concerns — from commedia dell’arte, to gender and politics, to science and astronomy, including a plurality of worlds, for example — all culminating in the third act’s operatic spectacle. This volume offers a transcription of Behn’s 1687 play with extensive annotations, a critical discussion of Behn’s text, and the first English translation of Fatouville’s eight French and Italian scenes.
Download or read book Revelation written by Andrew D. Parker and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-05-31 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many have tried to understand Revelation, but evidently few have actually taken the visions apart to study their chronology. This book is part of the results of years of studying Revelation through the Greek, not a translation. This first book, part one of the commentary, includes a thorough discussion of the keys necessary for understanding Revelation and the timing of its events. The entire commentary will include a new translation of Revelation along with running commentary in what is believed to be a close rendition of Revelation’s true chronology. Included support for these understandings comes from the Old and New Testaments, early Christian writings and ancient Jewish understandings. It is the author’s belief that without these new findings Christians will not be able to fully understand Revelation and the End Times.
Download or read book Praxis written by Mihailo Markovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the Boston Studies is a distillation of one of the most creative and important movements in contemporary social theory. The articles repre sent the work of the so-called 'Praxis' group in Yugoslavia, a heterogeneous movement of philosophers, sociologists, political theorists, historians, and cul tural critics, united by a common approach: that of social theory as a critical and scientific enterprise, closely linked to questions of contemporary practical life. As the introductory essay explains, in its history and analysis of the development of this group, the name Praxis focuses on the heart of Marx's social theory - the conception of human beings as creative, productive makers and shapers of their own history. The journal Praxis, which appeared regularly in Yugoslavia at Zagreb, and also in an International Edition for many years, is the source of many of these articles. The journal had to suspend publication in 1975 because of political pressures in Yugoslavia. Eight members of the group were dismissed from their University posts in Belgrade, after a long struggle in which their colleagues stood by them staunchly. Yet the creativity and productivity of the group continues, by those in Belgrade and elsewhere. Its contributions to the social sciences, and to the very conception of social science as critical and applied theory, remain vivid, timely and innovative. The importance of the theoretical work of the Praxis group is perhaps at its height now.

Download or read book Archbishop Fulton Sheen the Contemporary Humanist written by Emmanuel K. Ngwainmbi and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-08-30 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a theological reflection of Sheen’s contribution to humanity and society. It analyzes the modern person from the Catholic doctrinal perspective, explores Fulton Sheen’s perception of the contemporary individual, and demonstrates that global economic, religious, and political crises cannot be resolved by focusing only on the mundane. It further underscores some contemporary anthropological challenges and proposes a philosophy and theology of life that can enable contemporary humans to know themselves better and make life worth living. The authors argue that advancements in science and technology have failed to prolong happiness; people are still frustrated, disillusioned, cynical, bored, and suicidal. This book enters the landscape of Sheen’s controversial pause before he was sanctified and provides a lengthy, liturgical extrapolation of Sheen’s Christian anthropology, wrestling with other thinkers and general concerns surrounding human angst in modern society.
Download or read book As the Spider Spins written by João Constâncio and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-05-29 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nietzsche's metaphor of the spider that spins its cobweb expresses his critique of the metaphysical use of language - but it also suggests that ‟we, spiders‟, are able to spin different, life-affirming, healthier, non-metaphysical cobwebs. This book is a collection of 12 essays that focus not only on Nietzsche's critique of the metaphysical assumptions of language, but also on his effort to use language in a different way, i.e., to create a ‟new language‟. It is from this viewpoint that the book considers such themes as consciousness, the self, metaphor, instinct, affectivity, style, morality, truth, and knowledge. The authors invited to contribute to this volume are Nietzsche scholars who belong to some of the most important research centers of the European Nietzsche-Research: Centro Colli-Montinari (Italy), GIRN (Europhilosphie), SEDEN (Spain), Greifswald Research Group (Germany), NIL (Portugal). In 2011 João Constâncio and Maria João Mayer Branco edited Nietzsche on Instinct and Language, also published by Walter de Gruyter. The two books complement each other.
Download or read book Musical Theatre Script and Song Analysis Through the Ages written by James Olm and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-12-16 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many times have you experienced a musical that was fabulous or just didn't work at all, but you had no idea how to communicate why? How do you differentiate between a flaw in the performance portrayal of a character to a structural flaw in the musical itself? How do you analyse musical theatre songs that are so subjective in its very nature? Is there even a common link of analysis between musicals from the Golden Age and musicals from the present day? Musical Theatre Script and Song Analysis Through the Ages answers these questions and gives students of musical theatre the tools they need to understand and articulate how musicals work. At the heart of any musical lie its music and lyrics, yet it is this area that is least understood. This book offers a brand new terminology of analysis that gets to the core of what holds a musical together: the libretto, music, and lyrics. Through identifying methods of lyric and musical analysis and applying these to ten different musicals throughout history, students are able to ask questions such as: why does this song sound this way?; what is this lyric doing to identify character purpose?; and how is a character communicating this feeling to an audience? From classroom analysis through to practical application, this text guides readers through a structured approach to understanding, disseminating and more importantly, articulating how a musical works. A perfect tool for students of musical theatre, its practical benefits of understanding the form, and realizing that it can be applied to any age musical, will benefit any theatre person in helping articulate all of those abstract feelings that are inherent in this art form. It offers a roadmap to the musical's innermost DNA.
