Download or read book Poppy and Puppy Are Friends written by Cpdt-Ka Kimberly Burgan and published by Author House. This book was released on 2012-06-21 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poppy and Puppy Are Friends is a charming and informative picture book designed to encourage safe behavior around dogs for the entire family. The many responsibilities associated with having a dog are depicted throughout in an effort to create a general understanding of responsible dog ownership and animal husbandry at even the earliest age! Learning to "listen" to and communicate with a dog is paramount to successfully raising children and dogs within the same household. In our human world, we often forget that dogs use a nonverbal style of communication called body language to express their feelings. This lighthearted and expressively illustrated book provides children with a general introduction to identifying and respecting these nonverbal cues. Children will delight in the fun, brief text combined with the use of vivid color and grey tones, allowing them to chime in and/or anticipate what is to come for Poppy and her puppy. Parents are invited to partner with young readers and learn along the way! Proactive education promoting respect for animals with safety as a top priority creates happy pets, safe homes, and healthy family relationships ... ultimately keeping more dogs in their homes and out of overpopulated shelters. Join Poppy in learning how to treat Puppy! The author pledges to donate a portion of all online sales proceeds to Best Friends Animal Society, the nation's largest animal sanctuary located in Kanab, Utah.

Download or read book Works Well with Others written by Ross McCammon and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hilarious and indispensable guide to the weirdness of the workplace from Esquire editor and Entrepreneur etiquette columnist Ross McCammon Ten years ago, Ross McCammon made an incredible and unexpected transition from working at an in-flight magazine in suburban Dallas to landing his dream job at Esquire in New York. What followed was a period of almost debilitating anxiety and awkwardness—interspersed with minor instances of professional glory—as McCammon learned how to navigate the workplace while feeling entirely ill-equipped for achieving success in his new career. Works Well with Others is McCammon’s “relentlessly funny and soberingly insightful”* journey from impostor to authority, a story that reveals the workplace for what it is: an often absurd landscape of ego and fear guided by social rules that no one ever talks about. By mining his own experiences at the magazine, McCammon provides advice on everything from firm handshakes to small talk in elevators to dealing with jerks and underminers. Here is an inspirational new way of looking at your job, your career, and success itself; an accessible guide for those of us who are smart, talented, and ambitious but who aren’t well-“leveraged” and don’t quite feel prepared for success . . . or know what to do once we’ve made it. *Entertainment Weekly

Book excerpt: “No Dog Should Die Alone” was the attention-grabbing — and heart-stirring — headline of journalist Laura T. Coffey’s TODAY show website story about photographer Lori Fusaro’s work with senior shelter pets. While generally calm, easy, and already house-trained, these animals often represent the highest-risk population at shelters. With gorgeous, joyful photographs and sweet, funny, true tales of “old dogs learning new tricks,” Coffey and Fusaro show that adopting a senior can be even more rewarding than choosing a younger dog. You’ll meet endearing elders like Marnie, the irresistible shih tzu who has posed for selfies with Tina Fey, James Franco, and Betty White; Remy, a soulful nine-year-old dog adopted by elderly nuns; George Clooney’s cocker spaniel, Einstein; and Bretagne, the last known surviving search dog from Ground Zero. They may be slower moving and a tad less exuberant than puppies, but these pooches prove that adopting a senior brings immeasurable joy, earnest devotion, and unconditional love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To Bruce Goldstein-an edgy, twenty-something New Yorker trying to make his mark in advertising-just waking up in the morning was an ordeal. Underemployed and recently dumped, he was well into the downward spiral of bipolar disorder. Even with therapy, lithium, Paxil, Wellbutrin, and Prozac, he could not shake his rapid mood swings, his fear of dying, or the voice of Satan, who first visited him one sunny day in Central Park. Then came Ozzy, a black Labrador pup (named after metal's "Prince of Darkness") who leads Bruce toward recovery through complete, canine dependence. From the depths of his despair to a life remade, Bruce shows how learning to care for, train, and love the hilariously loyal Ozzy provided him with the structure and focus he needed to heal.

These are the uplifting stories of inseparable buddies for whom species is no barrier to unconditional love. Dogs like Wallace the labradoodle, who protects his clutch of rescued battery hens; Tinni and Sniffer, a German shepherd and a wild fox who loved to play together in the Norwegian snow; Benton the Great Pyrenees, who can’t get enough of Boone, a mobility-impaired racoon; and Yiddle the Chihuahua, whose big best mate is Kevin, a llama. In A Dog’s Best Friend Laura Greaves shows us that while these may be unusual pairings, they are as devoted to each other as any human companions. That’s because these dogs and their unlikely pals are living proof of the life-changing power of friendship.
