Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pumping in the Chemical Works Pumping water, sewage, petroleum and non-corrosive liquids in quantity forms so large a part of ordinary mechanical engineering practice that all the requirements connected therewith may be said to be satisfactorily fulfilled. The pumping of corrosive liquids is an entirely different problem and now may be considered a distinct branch of engineering. To the chemical engineer the problem is mainly one of materials. If a suitable material can be found resistant to a certain corrosive liquid and capable of being fashioned into a mechanical pumping contrivance, ordinary mechanical engineering practice may be followed. However, many ordinary corrosive liquids attack all substances from which simple mechanical pumps can be made. The problem is in such cases of a different character and consists in applying energy to produce the movement of liquids without the intervention of mechanical aids - to remove the piston, the ram, the valve and Springs, the glands and packing, the bearings and other weird things the mechanical mind has bequeathed to us. Book Pumps and Pumping Machinery Classic Reprint

Download or read book Pumps and Pumping Machinery Classic Reprint written by Frederick Colyer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-06-23 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pumps and Pumping Machinery The author does not think it necessary to enter into a history as to the first use of the ordinary pump, lift and force pumps of the usual type for domestic supply are now so well known that no notice need be taken of them. Descriptions of machinery at work, derived in most cases (except in some specially mentioned) from his own practice and experience are given. He would like it to be understood, where any data are given, especially as to the performance of machinery of any kind, that they may be taken in all cases as good average results, and not mere experiments. Dimensions are given of the leading apparatus connected with pumping machinery and plant, as well as various types of engines and boilers, to indicate to those who have not had much experience in this class of work what they should specify in stating their wants. The author hopes it may prevent in future, to some extent, the issue of the crude specifications and drawings that are too often seen, especially as they place contractors who tender for the work in an unfair position. Where so much is left to their own ideas, it necessarily follows that the tenders are very wide as to price. In the present day, when the lowest tender is usually accepted, it is necessary to have all the details of a proposed work clearly defined, especially as to the leading dimensions and way of finishing the work. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pumping Machinery a Treatise on the History, Design, Construction, and Operation of Various, Forms of Pumps The book is intended for the use of those Who have studied hydraulics, mechanics, and the strength of materials. It is intended to develop certain general principles of mechanics Which are applicable to pumping machinery as Well as to train the, student in application of certain of the theoretical portions of the studies of an engineering course. The first two chapters are devoted to the development of pumping machinery, because the author feels the need, of all engineers, of a more intimate knowledge of the great works of the early members of the profession. The pump is so closely allied With the steam engine in early times that this history traces the early ferms of that machine. The historical works mentioned in the list of text-books in the bibliography as well as the historical articles given in the same catalogue have been indispensable in the preparation of these chapters. Book Pumping Machinery Vol 1

Download or read book Pumping Machinery Vol 1 written by Deming Company and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pumping Machinery, Vol. 1: For Operation by Any Power This Catalogue supersedes Catalogue "H" and all other preceding Catalogues of Power Pumps issued by this Company, and should be referred to as Catalogue "J." Its purpose is to present to pros.pective purchasers concise and reliable information about the standard sizes of Deming Power Pumps of the Triplex, Deep Well and other types. The line exhibited herein is an extensive one, being the result of thirty-five years of careful study of all kinds of pumping requirements and painstaking efforts to produce pumps which, in point of convenience, workmanship and efficiency, will best meet these requirements. They are so designed and constructed as to insure great durability, ease of operation and low cost of maintenance, which characteristics have won for them the enviable reputation of being 'The World's Best." New sizes and designs are continually being added, or standard designs modified, to meet new problems which are constantly presenting themselves, so that it is not possible to embody in this Catalogue all the sizes and styles of pumps which we are prepared to furnish, but only those general types which experience indicates are in general demand. We therefore invite correspondence with reference to special pumping equipment, even if not listed in this Catalogue, and, whenever possible, will gladly prepare and submit estimates on pumps to satisfactorily meet existing conditions. Book Notes on the Construction and Working of Pumps Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes on the Construction and Working of Pumps Classic Reprint written by Edward Charles Robert Marks and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on the Construction and Working of Pumps A pump may be defined as a machine by and through which a fluid can. Be made to flow against the action of gravitation or other opposing force. With most pumps such flow is brought about by the displacing action of a piston or plunger moving within a closed vessel provided with suitable inlet and outlet passages controlled by valves. In some cases we may have to deliver a large volume of water against but a small head, pressure, or resistance, whilst. In others there may be only a small volume of water to be delivered but a great resistance to be pumped against, and it is evident that although similar parts are to be found in pumps for these and other services, their precise construction, arrangement, and relative dimensions must vary with the nature of the work to be performed. We will, however, first consider certain laws and conditions applicable to the working of pumping machinery in general, before proceeding to discuss some typical examples in detail. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pumping and Water Power That an ounce Of Practical knowledge, intelligently applied, is worth a pound Of Theory, may be accepted as an Axio matic truth. At the same time, it must be recognised that a combination of Theoretical and Practical acquaintance with any subject, affords the possessor immense advantages in making the best use of his knowledge of the subject in question. In no branch of Science has greater progress been made in one Century than in that Of Engineering, and so various and complex are the subjects with which an Engineer Of the present day must be in touch, that it is an utter impossibility for any man (who does not devote almost exclusive attention to one only Of the branches of his profession) to keep himself posted in the numerous matters that he must of necessity recognise. I venture to assert that few subjects are less generally included in an average Engineer's repertoire of knowledge than that of Hydraulics, unless his practice has led him to an especial study of the subject. Download or read book The Construction of Pump Details Classic Reprint written by Philip R. Björling and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Construction of Pump Details Attention was called by reviewers of the Author's 'Practical Handbook on Pump Construction' to the lack of details therein, and numerous requests for such information have shown how great is the need for particulars of this kind. It is with pleasure, therefore, that the Author submits this book, trusting that the information given will supply the requirement, at least to some extent. Most of the illustrations are from actual practice, and are drawn to scale. Dimensions are given where possible. Valves are but briefly dealt with, being fairly explained in the 'Practical Handbook on Pump Construction.' The Author wishes it to be clearly understood that here a "pump" implies the hydraulic apparatus used in raising or forcing liquids, and not the steam part, hence the details in this book are strictly confined to the water or hydraulic part of the apparatus.
