Book Helps for the Pulpit Or Sketches and Skeletons of Sermons Classic Reprint

Download or read book Helps for the Pulpit Or Sketches and Skeletons of Sermons Classic Reprint written by Hugh Black and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Helps for the Pulpit, or Sketches and Skeletons of Sermons The design of this volume is to assist ministers in their prepara tions for preaching the Gospel of Christ. Hence its title is, Helps for the Pulpit. The greater part of the Outlines have been the guide of the Author in his public ministrations; and he believes that they were not only delivered with pleasure to himself, but also, through Divine influence, made a blessing to some who heard them. The sermon itself generally occupied from three-quarters of an hour to one hour in the delivery; but some of the Outlines will not take more than ten minutes to read them, and the others rather less. The preface or introduction to each discourse is generally short, blanks being introduced there, and also throughout each Outline, to indicate room for amplification. The Author has, in most cases, endeavored to preserve unity of design respecting the subject of the text, and to make the divisions natural and striking. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Temperance Pulpit: A Series of Sermons We want apostles like those of the Bible, for ills like those of the world. This short letter contains the pattern of a ministry for the times. The Judas who did not betray his Lord will not suffer sin upon a brother. It is not enough that we be upright in our own conduct; we must be downright in regard to every form of sin, and every class of sinners. "Beloved!" - I venture to adopt Jude's language, while I pray for a portion of his spirit, - "beloved," this is a word for you. It is not an answer to the first question, "What must I do to be saved?" but an answer to the second, which is like unto it, "What must the saved do in the service of his Redeemer?" It is specifically addressed to the disciples of Christ; and, brief though the address be, it gives in two grand hemispheres the whole circle of a believers duty. The first care of a Christian is to sustain and strengthen his own spiritual life, and the second is to save his neighbours. Both are here, and each is in its own place. As om beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given unto him, arranged and expressed the twin efforts of a minister's life, "Save thyself, and them that hear thee," Jude, under direction of the same Spirit, gives the same instructions and makes the same division. There Is not any discussion as to whether they should work. That is assumed; and the Word tells the workers what they should do, and how they should do It. God has a great work in the world. Christians are required to yield themselves as His instruments. The apostle here tells whereby the instrument may be kept keen-edged, and how It should be plied upon the rough material around. Book Messiah Pulpit New York Vol 2

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Messiah Pulpit, New York, Vol. 2: Sermons of M. J. Savage; October 8, 1897 MY subject this morning is The Cost of our Freedom and our Duty to maintain it. My text is in the Epistle of Paul to the Galatian churches, the fifth chapter, and a part of the first verse, Stand fast, therefore, in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free. If I can help you to understand the situation of things when this letter of Paul to the Galatian churches was writ ten, I shall let you into the whole secret of the struggle of man for religious liberty. Most people, I think, read this letter, as they do other parts of the Bible, both New Testament and Old, if they read them at all, without very much thinking, without try ing to comprehend the conditions out of which the ideas sprung. Book How to Hear from God

Download or read book How to Hear from God written by Joyce Meyer and published by FaithWords. This book was released on 2004-03-15 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the hustle and bustle of today's busy world, sometimes it's hard enough to hear yourself think, much less take a minute to stop and listen for the voice of God. But learning to recognize God's voice and the many ways in which He speaks is vital for following His plan. In How to Hear from God, Joyce Meyer shows readers that God reaches out to people every day, seeking a partnership with them to offer guidance and love. She reveals the ways in which God delivers His word and the benefits of asking God for the sensitivity to hear His voice. Joyce asks the question, "Are you listening?" and shares how to do just that.
