Book How to Stop Chronic Pain in Children

Download or read book How to Stop Chronic Pain in Children written by Michael Dobe and published by Carl-Auer Verlag. This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paula is 12 years old. She has been suffering from chronic abdominal pains for four years. None of the treatments she underwent has helped her. Paula has turned from a fun-loving child into a quiet, suffering girl, and Paula's parents are suffering vicariously with her. Michael Dobe and Boris Zernikow have written this book for children like her and their parents. Based on their experience with out-patient as well as in-patient pain treatment in children, they show in a comprehensive manner how children and adolescents can actively face chronic pains. Many of the tips they offer are easy to implement; they sometimes require a bit of courage and patience, but no elaborate tools. This book helps families find their way back to a regular daily routine despite the pain, back to a daily life in which there is room for laughter and a positive outlook on the future. "This extraordinarily interesting and informative book will provide lasting help for many suffering children and adolescents, and thus for their parents as well." Dr. Marianne Koch, Honorary president of Deutsche Schmerzliga e. V. (German Pain League)

Book The School Counselor s Mental Health Sourcebook

Download or read book The School Counselor s Mental Health Sourcebook written by Rick Auger and published by Corwin Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: National data and anecdotal reports from teachers, counsellors, and administrators show that substantial numbers of students in primary and secondary schools have been identified as having mental health needs. The School Counselor's Mental Health Sourcebook provide school counsellors with: (a) information about the range of mental health disorders seen in schools, including prevalence and typical symptoms; (b) a set of practical strategies and intervention ideas that can be used in classrooms, group counselling settings, and individual counselling sessions; and (c) suggestions and guidelines for communicating effectively with teachers and families regarding mental health issues. The ASCA National Model, which serves as the blueprint for practice, requires that counsellors switch their focus from service-centred for some students to programme-centred for every student. So, counsellors are not only interested in working with students with a range of mental health needs, they are also being called upon to do so. For many students, schools represent the only source of treatment, and this book addresses the great need for practical, ready-to-use strategies and guidelines that counsellors can use to help these students succeed.

Book Glimpses of Life

Download or read book Glimpses of Life written by James Stephen Fulbright Ph.D. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-10-03 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glimpses of Life is the result of James Stephen Fulbrights observation, imagination, and memory to view his world objectively. This work has been inspired by real people and real events. The people who inspired him were his relatives and close friends and an occasional stranger. He has nothing but praise for them and gratitude to them for making his life interesting and complete along with the lives of his kinsmen and friends, contributing to making life rich and full. For those interested in time-span, these stories begin with the earliest stories taking place about 1740 and the most recent stories concluding about 1965 and some even as recent as 2014 counting the time during which he is looking back. He is offering stories, ones that can be read separately or read together. Because the stories can be read separately, he has them divided into chapters, and because they are less than whole entities, he presents them not as wholly comprehensible in and of themselves, but rather as, in view of the rich texture of real life, short glimpsesglimpses of life. To bring in other points of view in Glimpses of Life with concern for meaning and understanding, he has created a narrative that delves into values and meanings that profile the glimpses of his life story.

Book Clinical Behavior Therapy with Children

Download or read book Clinical Behavior Therapy with Children written by Thomas H. Ollendick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As noted by its title, the focus of this book is centered on an examination of behavior therapy with children in clinical settings. Throughout, our goal has been to examine theoretical underpinnings, review empirical research, and illustrate clinical utility for a variety of behavioral proce dures with children. In pursuing this goal, we have described child behavior therapy as an approach based on empirical methodology, de rived from behavioral principles, and focused upon adjustment disor ders of children. The hallmark of such an approach is its accountability the extent to which the procedures and techniques presented in this text are demonstrably accountable must be determined at least partially by the reader. As students of child behavior, we have become sensitized to two trends in behavior therapy with children during the preparation of this book. First, we have been concerned with the simple application of behavioral procedures to children, irrespective of developmental con siderations. All too frequently, assessment strategies and treatment pro cedures found to be useful with adults have been applied to children in an indiscriminate fashion. For example, some recent studies have examined and assessed the very same social skill deficits in children as in adults (e. g. , lack of eye contact, delayed latency of response, and absence of positive commendatory responses). Surely, skill deficits differ from age to age just as they differ from situation to situation.
