Book Public private Sector Interactions

Download or read book Public private Sector Interactions written by Network Advisory Committee and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a 2-day meeting in October 1982, the Library of Congress Network Advisory Committee (NAC) members discussed the complex issues involved in public and private sector interactions and their relationship to networking activities. The report, "Public Sector/Private Sector Interaction in Providing Information Services," prepared by the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science (NCLIS), Public Sector/Private Sector Task Force, was used as a core document. In addition, NAC commissioned a concept paper by Glyn Evans, Executive Director, SUNY/OCLC. Discussion groups were formed to explore how the principles and recommendations of the report to NCLIS related to special services provided by either a public or private sector agency. The groups concluded that while equity of access and preservation were of concern, these services could, with appropriate safeguards, be supplied by either sector. In addition to the report of the meeting, this document includes a list of the NAC members, an executive summary, and four appendices: (1) a background reading list; (2) a review and summary of the NCLIS task force report by Robert M. Hayes of the University of California, Los Angeles; (3) Glyn Evans' discussion paper; and (4) an outline of NAC actions on the NCLIS task force report. (DMC)

Book Public Private Partnerships for Sustainable Development

Download or read book Public Private Partnerships for Sustainable Development written by Axel Marx and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Voluntary sustainability standards (VSS) and other private governance instruments (e.g., Fair Trade, Forest Stewardship Council, Fair Wear Foundation, GLOBALGAP) are increasingly regulating global production processes and economic activities. VSS verify the compliance of products or production processes with sustainability standards. The importance of voluntary sustainability standards is now widely recognized. After being operational for more than two decades, they have established themselves as private governance instruments. This recognition is also exemplified by their integration in public regulatory approaches. Governments and international organizations are partnering with voluntary sustainability standards to pursue sustainable development policies. We witness the integration of VSS in the regulatory approaches of local and national governments in countries around the world, the integration of VSS in trade policies, the emergence of public–private initiatives to govern global supply chains, and the inclusion of private initiatives in experimentalist governance regimes. This Special Issue seeks to bring together research on the interface between private and public governance. We welcome contributions which analyze specific case studies on the emergence and development of these private–public interactions, the design of public–private governance, the effectiveness of these governance arrangements, and critical perspectives on the possibilities and limitations of such public–private forms of governance. We welcome multi-disciplinary perspectives including contributions from economics, political science, law, sociology, geography, and anthropology. Papers selected for this Special Issue are subject to a peer review procedure with the aim of rapid and wide dissemination of research results, developments, and applications.

Book Modern Governance

Download or read book Modern Governance written by Jan Kooiman and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1993-01-20 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This wide-ranging text provides an overview of major developments in governance in contemporary society. It illuminates recent theories about the relationship of the public and private sectors, and the interaction of politics and society. The main development in recent years is shown as a shift in the balance between government and society towards the private sector. The book explores the ways in which new balances have been struck between state and market. It examines such new ventures in public-private interaction and endeavours to explain them in terms of coping with the dynamics, complexities and diversities of modern society. In doing so, it develops the outline of a new theory of social-political governance.

Book The Role of Public Private Partnerships in Health Systems Strengthening

Download or read book The Role of Public Private Partnerships in Health Systems Strengthening written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past several decades, the public and private sectors made significant investments in global health, leading to meaningful changes for many of the world's poor. These investments and the resulting progress are often concentrated in vertical health programs, such as child and maternal health, malaria, and HIV, where donors may have a strategic interest. Frequently, partnerships between donors and other stakeholders can coalesce on a specific topical area of expertise and interest. However, to sustain these successes and continue progress, there is a growing recognition of the need to strengthen health systems more broadly and build functional administrative and technical infrastructure that can support health services for all, improve the health of populations, increase the purchasing and earning power of consumers and workers, and advance global security. In June 2015, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine held a workshop on the role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in health systems strengthening. Participants examined a range of incentives, innovations, and opportunities for relevant sectors and stakeholders in strengthening health systems through partnerships; to explore lessons learned from pervious and ongoing efforts with the goal of illuminating how to improve performance and outcomes going forward; and to discuss measuring the value and outcomes of investments and documenting success in partnerships focused on health systems strengthening. This report summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

Book excerpt: Although many countries already make use of private sector services to achieve policy objectives in public health care provision, it remains a controversial topic. Drawing on a wide range of country experiences, this book considers the use of the private sector in the provision of public health services in developing countries, in terms of: assessing the potential for private sector involvement, contracting with the private sector for health services, regulating the sector, and what to do when key information is not available.
