Book Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy

Download or read book Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy written by Yasushi Nagata and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as a practical guide for the use of stereotactic body radiation therapy in clinics. On the basis of more than 10 years of clinical experience with lung cancer, liver cancer and other cancers, a remarkable volume of knowledge has been accumulated. At the same time, great progress in techniques has been achieved. Various new fixing apparatuses, new respiratory regulation techniques, new dose fractionation schedules and new image-guided radiation therapy machines have been developed. This book reviews the history of those developments and reports on various types of toxicities. Review of recent clinical studies is also included. The authors were key members of the JCOG 0403 clinical trials on stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for both inoperable and operableT1N0M0 primary lung cancer. Readers will learn of the superior outcomes obtained with SBRT for lung cancer and other cancers in terms of local control and toxicities. With its practical focus, this book will benefit radiation oncologists, medical physicists, medical dosimetrists, radiation therapists and senior nurses as well as medical oncologists and surgical oncologists who are interested in radiotherapy.

Book Essentials of Clinical Radiation Oncology

Download or read book Essentials of Clinical Radiation Oncology written by Matthew C. Ward, MD and published by Springer Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-12-28 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essentials of Clinical Radiation Oncology is a comprehensive, user-friendly clinical review that summarizes up-to-date cancer care in an easy-to-read format. Each chapter is structured for straightforward navigability and information retention beginning with a “quick-hit” summary that contains an overview of each disease, its natural history, and general treatment options. Following each "quick-hit" are high-yield summaries covering epidemiology, risk factors, anatomy, pathology, genetics, screening, clinical presentation, workup, prognostic factors, staging, treatment paradigms, and medical management for each malignancy. Each treatment paradigm section describes the current standard of care for radiation therapy including indications, dose constraints, and side effects. Chapters conclude with an evidence-based question and answer section which summarizes practice-changing data to answer key information associated with radiation treatment outcomes. Flow diagrams and tables consolidate information throughout the book that all radiation oncologists and related practitioners will find extremely useful when approaching treatment planning and clinical care. Essentials of Clinical Radiation Oncology has been designed to replicate a "house manual" created and used by residents in training and is a "one-stop" resource for practicing radiation oncologists, related practitioners, and radiation oncology residents entering the field. Key Features: Offers digestible information as a learning guide for general practice Examines essential clinical questions which are answered with evidence-based data from important clinical studies Places clinical trials and data into historical context and points out relevance in current practice Provides quick reference tables on treatment options and patient selection, workup, and prognostic factors by disease site

Book Primary and Metastatic Liver Tumors

Download or read book Primary and Metastatic Liver Tumors written by Kenneth Cardona and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The incidence of primary and metastatic liver tumors is rising and the therapeutic armamentarium for these tumors is expanding at a rapid pace. Surgery remains the primary treatment modality for these tumors. With improvements in our perioperative management and operative techniques a larger proportion of patients are able to undergo potentially curative liver surgery. In addition, indications and criteria for liver transplantation for both primary and metastatic liver tumors are constantly expanding. Unfortunately, many patients are not amendable to surgical resection or liver transplantation and therefore alternative liver-directed therapies are routinely being implemented as part of complex multidisciplinary treatment models. However, these models are continually evolving as these regional therapeutic options continue to expand. New embolization agents and techniques, as well as, improvements in radiation delivery, are all evolving in the background of improvement in systemic and targeted therapy options for these tumors. This book provides a comprehensive, state-of-the art review of the current state of liver-directed therapy for malignant liver tumors. The book will serve as a valuable resource for not only surgeons and clinicians but for researchers with an interest in malignant liver tumors. The book focuses on the therapeutic approach to primary and metastatic tumors providing an up-to-date review on surgical liver anatomy and new imaging techniques as well as patient selection and technical consideration for resection and transplantation. In addition, the book provides new insight into novel and evolving therapies in the areas of transarterial therapy such as: (i) bland embolization, (ii) chemoembolization, and (iii) radioembolization; as well as new radiation techniques including SBRT and proton therapy. Furthermore, the expanding role of hepatic artery infusion therapy in primary malignant tumors is highlighted. Finally, integration of all these regional therapy options with upcoming and evolving systemic and targeted therapy regimens are integrated and discussed. This book will serve as a very useful resource for clinicians and researchers managing and treating patients with these challenging malignancies. It provides a concise yet comprehensive summary of the current status of the field that will help guide patient management and stimulate investigative efforts. All chapters are written by experts in their fields and include the most up to date scientific and clinical information.

Book Inhibiting PARP as a Strategic Target in Cancer

Download or read book Inhibiting PARP as a Strategic Target in Cancer written by Christina Annunziata and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2016-08-05 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poly-ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) proteins are critical mediators of DNA repair. Many traditional anti-cancer chemotherapy agents overwhelm a cell’s ability to repair DNA damage in order to kill proliferating malignant cells. Recent evidence suggests that cancers within and across tissue types have specific defects in DNA repair pathways, and that these defects may predispose for sensitivity and resistance to various classes of cytotoxic agents. Breast, ovarian and other cancers develop in the setting of inherited DNA repair deficiency, and these cancers may be more sensitive to cytotoxic agents that induce DNA strand breaks, as well as to inhibitors of PARP activity. A series of recent clinical trials has tested whether PARP inhibitors can achieve synthetic lethality in hereditary DNA repair-deficient tumors. At the current time, mutation of BRCA serves as a potential, but not comprehensive, biomarker to predict response to PARP inhibitor therapy. Mechanisms of resistance to PARP inhibitors are only recently being uncovered. Future studies seek to identify sporadic cancers that harbor genomic instability rendering susceptibility to PARP inhibitors that compound lethal DNA damage.
