Download or read book Human Factors Technology in the Design of Simulators for Operator Training written by Alfred F. Smode and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents an organized body of information useful for dealing with those human factors problems frequently encountered in the development of the Weapons System Trainer. Emphasis is given throughout to the general problems involved in developing the complete training system rather than to the analysis of details specific to given training systems. It summarizes basic human factors information which influences the design and construction of training devices. Successive chapters of the report are devoted to determining training needs, developing the environment for learning, understanding simulation requirements for training, developing a measurement capability, and discussing the human engineering problems in trainer design. As it provides a considerable background of human factors information pertinent to the synthetic ground environment, this report will be of interest to individuals directly concerned with Weapons System Training programs, preparing trainer specifications, developing training standards, and testing and evaluating simulation equipment. Book excerpt: Advances in computer, visual display, motion and force cueing and other technologies in the past two decades have had a dramatic effect on the design and use of simulation technology in aviation and other fields. The effective use of technology in training, safety investigation, engineering and scientific research requires an understanding of its capabilities and limitations. As the technology has as its primary goal the creation of virtual environments for human users, knowledge of human sensory, perceptual, and cognitive functioning is also needed. This book provides a review and analysis of the relevant engineering and science supporting the design and use of advanced flight simulation technologies. It includes chapters reviewing key simulation areas such as visual scene, motion, and sound simulation and a chapter analyzing the role of recreating the pilot's task environment in the overall effectiveness of simulators. The design and use of flight simulation are addressed in chapters on the effectiveness of flight simulators in training and on the role of physical and psychological fidelity in simulator design. The problems inherent in the ground-based simulation of flight are also reviewed as are promising developments in flight simulation technology and the important role flight simulators play in advanced aviation research. The readership includes: flight simulation engineers and designers, human factors researchers and practitioners, aviation safety investigators, flight training management and instructors, training and instructional technologists, virtual environment design community, and regulatory authorities.

Download or read book Introduction to Human Factors and Ergonomics for Engineers Second Edition written by Mark R. Lehto and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-10-26 with total page 797 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supplying a breadth and depth of coverage beyond that found in most traditional texts, Introduction to Human Factors and Ergonomics for Engineers, Second Edition presents and integrates important methods and tools used in the fields of Industrial Engineering, Human Factors and Ergonomics to design and improve jobs, tasks and products. It presents these topics with a practical, applied orientation suitable for engineering undergraduate students. See What’s New in the Second Edition: Revised order of chapters to group together topics related to the physical and cognitive aspects of human-integrated systems Substantially updated material emphasizes the design of products people work with, tasks or jobs people perform, and environments in which people live The book has sufficient material to be used in its entirety for a two semester sequence of classes, or in part for a single semester course, focusing on selected topics covered in the text. The authors provide a set of guidelines and principles for the design and analysis of human-integrated systems and highlights their application to industry and service systems. It addresses the topics of human factors, work measurement and methods improvement, and product design an approachable style. The common thread throughout the book is on how better "human factors" can lead to improved safety, comfort, enjoyment, acceptance, and effectiveness in all application arenas. Packed with cases studies and examples, readers can use well beyond the classroom and into their professional lives.
