The present war, is that nations are not ruled by realities, but by the more or less illusory ideas which they form of these realities. The truth about an historical event may be revealed fifty years after it has taken place, but is seldom known at the time of its occurrence. Book Military Psychiatry in Peace and War Classic Reprint

Download or read book Military Psychiatry in Peace and War Classic Reprint written by Charles Stanford Read and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Military Psychiatry in Peace and War Notwithstanding the great opportunities for the study of mental disease arising under active service conditions during the late European War, little English literature on the sub ject has been published. Though it is more or less universally found that no special war psychosis exists, it has been evident that the environment and circumstances of warfare do tend to bring about certain mental reactions, which, though seen in other situations, are not there so common. Unfor tunately the exigencies of war-time precluded most medical officers from devoting time to special study, and my work, as seen in the following pages, has been the product of labour only possible at intervals of leisure now and again. The statistical work at a Clearing H05pital is fraught with much difficulty, for the following up of cases which were dis persed over various parts of the United Kingdom is not a task to be lightly undertaken. My medical work during the war has been exceptionally fortunate, in that I have been able to gain a wide experience of the manifold mental ah normalities met with. Previous to my post at D Block, Netley, I had charge of neurological wards, and I have had the privilege since of visiting all the War Mental H05pitals in France and Great Britain. My thanks are due to the War Office authorities for giving me official permission and grant ing me all facilities for those visits. To the various medical officers who so courteously tendered me all available informa tion, and thus helped in my work, I express my indebtedness. Book The War Of The Gods In Addiction

Download or read book The War Of The Gods In Addiction written by DAVID E. SCHOEN and published by Chiron Publications. This book was released on 2020-12-15 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The War of the Gods of Addiction, based on the correspondence between Bill W., one of the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, and Swiss psychiatrist, C.G. Jung, proposes an original, groundbreaking, psychodynamic view of addiction. Using insights from Jungian psychology, it demonstrates why the twelve steps of AA really work. It explores, through theoretical and clinical material, modern and ancient myths, and fairy tales, the crucial process of neutralizing the archetypal shadow / archetypal evil, an aspect of all true addictions. It also explains how dreams may be used in the diagnosis and treatment of addiction. This book bridges the longstanding gap between the mental health and twelve-step recovering communities in ways that significantly encourage mutual understanding and benefit. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Neither Dead Nor Sleeping EF ore venturing to offer a slight comment upon Mrs. Sewall's strange manuscript, the writer feels that to make clear his own neutral views upon the subject of psychic phenomena might be well in point. Therefore, they may be assembled, from a previous expression of them, to stand as fol lows: We are dwelling in the night. To the man of ten thousand years hence, who will not be able to distinguish through his archeological researches which of the forgotten tribes fought the Great War that left the long line of bones in the subsoil from the Channel to the Alps - to that enlightened modern we shall seem to have been formless gropers in the dusk of ignorance. It is with the confidence that that day of peace will be hastened by the diffusion of a psycho logical viewpoint that this essay has been written. There can be little claim for originality made, as its aim is to bring before the lay reader material and methods of investigation that are normally not available to him. With this some tentative formulations are given, which it is hoped may tend to correlate the hypotheses that are reviewed. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Open Vision: A Study of Psychic Phenomena Interest in psychical phenomena has travelled very far since the days of the first crude manifestations which led to modern spiritism. The era of mere manifestations gave place to that of books purporting to tell us about the spirit-world and the wisdom of life on the other plane, and that in turn led to the day of psychical research with its long and patient investigations. The great war brought us to another period. There was not only greater desire than ever to gain new light if possible on the nature of death and the life beyond, but from the soldiers themselves on the battlefield there came evidences of psychical visions and guidances. To meet the new interest, books of many types have been issued, so that psychical experience has become one of the great subjects of the day in the world of books. So many messages and teachings have apparently come over the great border that none of us has time to read them all. What next? If we assume that the whole subject has passed out of its preliminary stage and that we have assured results at last, what use can we make of these results? Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Psychic Trio, or National Reconciled He was nearing the point of emergence from the orchard through a gate opening upon the rear of the dooryard and garden lawn when, coming upon a faint footpath, and turning at an angle in following it, he had come abruptly upon a young lady sitting upon a slight incline beneath an apple tree. She was absorbed in arranging some apple blossoms she had plucked from the low boughs of an overspreading tree. Suddenly he beheld her bending over the owers, her face only partly within view. Being at a little distance, she had not become aware of his presence. Taken in surprise by this presence, his first thought was to go on through the gate - a course, however, immediately checked by impulse. In a certain confusion, yet desiring to make his presence known, he stammered. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
