Indeed, according to professor Hans Holzer, photography gives us one of the greatest tools in documenting souls that continue to exist among us after death. Here Holzer looks at the evidence of ghosts revealing themselves to us on film, and shares examples of psychic photographs, many of which were taken during séances. /div

Book Psychic Photography Art Therapy Memories of My Condo

Download or read book Psychic Photography Art Therapy Memories of My Condo written by Grace Divine and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2010-10-12 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a First Amendment Commentary. How do we 'remember' places where we have lived in the past? As an artist who often works on the mental re-construction of scenes of all types, I am interested in learning how the mind 'sees' and remembers places. I even take this one step further. I often spend time 'seeing' or 'sensing' with my minds' eye and in the process, try to re-experience places and spaces that are relevant to my work. This book is an attempt to combine an interest in the mental processes that take place when human beings 'remember' their past and how that ultimately defines the brain's capacity to experience life. It is an attempt to understand how human beings experience images from the past. When I daydream or when I dream or meditate, I also experience images which I think of as other realities. These can expand and grow in intensity and sometimes be even more powerful and beautiful than physical reality. I usually think of places where I have lived with nostalgia. Amongst the many questions that arise are: Do we leave something behind wherever we go? Are these 'things' we leave parts of ourselves? What parts are these? Can they be recaptured? And how can we more accurately re-experience the past and possibly change it by changing the present and future perception of it? At times, when I am awake, I could make an analogy of my sense of memory experience to the viewing of an old film. The film, tattered and damaged by time, is similar to the images that I experience in my human mind as I 'remember' them. In the images, (photo-paintings) in this book, I captured parts of a condo in which I once lived. And yet, one could ask, why go to the past? My answer is that the past is part of who we are today. The past is part of our present whether joyful or sad. To revisit the past when it is more drab or lonesome than jolly is difficult but to do so, I believe can bring joy to our lives. Here it is we find the worth of the exercises in this book. In these pages, I revisit the past, by means of art, photography, writing, and psychic intuition. I get in touch with my memories of it in order to better understand it and perhaps, at instances change it. And the therapy in this book is aimed at exactly that, changing our perspective or perceptions of the past in order to improve our state of mind and mood in the present. I hope this book will entice you to revisit your past and somehow, in those cases where there is darkness and sorrow, see it in a different light, with a better and brighter light.

Book excerpt: SECOND EDITION. In The World of Ted Serios, Jule Eisenbud, a Denver based psychiatrist and psychical researcher, examined anomalous "thoughtographic" phenomena ostensibly produced by Ted Serios, a Chicago hotel elevator operator who claimed he could mentally produce images on unused Polaroid film. Because "instant" Polaroids were developed immediately, skeptics could not easily attribute success to darkroom chicanery. Eisenbud, a seasoned investigator of anomalous phenomena, conducted thousands of trials with Serios over a three-year period between 1964 and 1967. Hundreds of images were produced as well as so-called blackies and whities-Polaroids that were massively under or overexposed, produced either when the film hadn't been unwrapped or under other conditions clearly ruling out under or overexposure. Eisenbud and multiple witnesses tested Serios in different locations, often under conditions that seemed clearly to rule out fraud-for example, separated at considerable distance from the film or camera. Nevertheless, the images continued to appear, and sometimes they bore striking similarities to sealed "target" images Serios had been challenged to duplicate with his mind. Magician and debunker James Randi, as expected, claimed it was all fraudulent. But despite Eisenbud's substantial financial incentives to magicians to produce the same phenomena under the same conditions, neither Randi or others accepted the challenge. More than fifty years on, Jule Eisenbud's investigation into Ted Serios' thoughtography is one of the most intriguing cases in the annals of anomalous phenomena.

Book Modern Developments of Spirit Photography

Download or read book Modern Developments of Spirit Photography written by Andrew Glendinning and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-05-07 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication in the British Journal of Photography of Mr. Taylor's Paper, with the proceedings of the meeting at which it was read, has aroused a wide-spread and deep interest in the subject. The principal portions of it, and, in some instances the whole of the Paper, together with editorial comments, have subsequently appeared in newspapers and journals in Canada, Australia, India, America, and other countries. As his experiments will be a matter of historical interest, many scientific men will be pleased to have his Paper in this book form, with the reproductions of two of the psychic pictures which he obtained on his photographic plates. The term "spirit photographs" is generally used to describe photographs of psychic entities who cannot be seen by ordinary persons, but can be photographed by a medium, or with the help of a medium, and with the co-operation of these unseen entities. Such portraits are obtained both indoors and in the open air, with and without a background, by natural light and by artificial light; and, in the case of "materialised" forms at séances, which are visible to every person present, the portraits have sometimes been taken by light produced by the spirits, the exact nature of which is unknown. The following may serve as a rough classification of what are called spirit photographs: -1. Portraits of psychical entities not seen by normal vision.2. Pictures of objects not seen nor thought of by the sitter or by the medium or operator; such as flowers, words, crosses, crowns, lights, and various emblematic objects.3. Pictures which have the appearance of being copied from statues, paintings, or drawings. Sometimes these are busts or heads only. The flatness in some photographs of this class is supposed, by persons who have not investigated the subject, to be proof that the photographs are produced in a fraudulent manner.4. Pictures of what are called materialised forms visible to normal sight.5. Pictures of the "wraith" or "double" of persons still in the body.6. Portraits on plates which developers have failed to bring into view, but that can be seen and described by clairvoyants and by mediums when in trance and whose descriptions agree, though made independently.

Preface As a further contribution to psychic science I have written this work, which represents some of the results of my inquiries and personal research. In a former book, Seeing the Invisible, which his late Majesty King Edward was pleased to accept, I touched --among other studies--upon thought and spirit photography. Sir William Crookes, O.M., F.R.S., the distinguished savant, commended the book most favourably: -- It is written in a fair spirit which invites unbiassed criticism. The incidents related in it and the arguments put forward are such as to demand the careful attention of thoughtful men, and the author impartially points out some difficulties and discrepancies. In the present work I give a fuller and more complete record of spirit photography than was at all possible in the pages of Seeing the Invisible--I trust also in a fair spirit which invites careful reading before criticism. Spirit photographs, spirit portraiture, and spirit writings belong to the rarer phases of psycho-physics. They are either produced by the operations of Intelligences in the Invisible--through appropriate media-- or man possesses psychic faculties and powers which have not yet received the attention they demand. Spiritualists believe that spirits can be photographed. Experts--many of whom have never investigated--declare all spirit photographs fraudulent. To both my answer is: "The evidence does not support either hypothesis, but for the fact of spirit photography it is most conclusive." Many problems, puzzles, and difficulties met with in the course of investigation are clearly stated. I have, however, omitted all reference to the experiments of Dr Baraduc and the photographing of invisible radiations from radio-active bodies, and matters already...

Download or read book The Perfect Medium written by Clément Chéroux and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early days of photography, many believed and hoped that the camera would prove more efficient than the human eye in capturing the unseen. Spiritualists and animists of the nineteenth century seized on the new technology as a method of substantiating the existence of supernatural beings and happenings. This fascinating book assembles more than 250 photographic images from the Victorian era to the 1960s, each purporting to document an occult phenomenon: levitations, apparitions, transfigurations, ectoplasms, spectres, ghosts, and auras. Drawn from the archives of European and American occult societies and private and public collections, the photographs in many cases have never before been published. The Perfect Medium studies these rare and remarkable photographs through cultural, historical, and artistic lenses. More than mere curiosities, the images on film are important records of the cultural forces and technical methods that brought about their production. They document in unexpected ways a period when developing photographic technology merged with a popular obsession with the occult to create a new genre of haunting experimental photographs.
