Download or read book How To Survive Peer Review written by Elizabeth Wager and published by BMJ Books. This book was released on 2002-06-14 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Survive Peer Review is a practical handbook designed to help anybody who wants to get their work published in a scientific journal, wants to apply for research funds or who has to undergo formal appraisals at work. It will also help people who have been asked to review articles, abstracts or grant applications. These activities are an essential part of scientific life, yet they virtually never get covered in professional training. It is often difficult even to get any helpful information about the processes from journals, meetings or funders. For the first time, this book brings together all you need to know, with authoritative advice from three authors who have researched peer review extensively and have considerable practical experience as researchers, editors and reviewers.

Book Diagnosis and Peer Review In Jails and Prisons Your 43rd Psychiatric Consultation William R Yee M D J D Copyright Applied for Nov 23 2023

Download or read book Diagnosis and Peer Review In Jails and Prisons Your 43rd Psychiatric Consultation William R Yee M D J D Copyright Applied for Nov 23 2023 written by William Yee and published by . This book was released on 2023-12-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diagnosis and Peer Review In Jails and Prisons is dif, ficult and uncertain. Diagnosis is dominated by the DSM, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual which has a copyright and owned by the American Psychiatric Association according to the best of my knowledge and belief. The ICD, is the International Classification of Disease and is owned by the WHO, World Health Association. Both documents are grounded on politics with a veneer of science. Nobody really knows what mental illness is in the sense that doctors know what pneumonia is. The brain has billions of cells and trillions of connections between the brain cells called synapses. The brain is a chemical and electrical organ that is not understood well enough to understand what mental illness is. There are no cures for mental illness. The treatment of mental illness is like giving aspirin for pneumonia before the microscope and before doctors knew what a germ was. That said, there is inconsistency in diagnosis even among the "best of doctors." After practicing medicine and psychiatry since 1973 as a licensed physician, I can say with cofidence that seasoned psychiatrists treat symptoms and not diagnosis. Diagnosis is for billing insurance companies and peer review and burnout. Insurance companies use electronic medical records and diagnosis as tools to deny payment and to ask for money back after authorizing treatment. Many doctors give up private practice to avoid arguing with insurance companies about money.

Download or read book The Power of Peer Providers in Mental Health Services written by Patrick W. Corrigan and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2021 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "People with lived experience of mental illness and recovery are joining leagues of skilled providers who offer services to meet the needs of people with serious psychiatric disorders. The emergence of peer power rides the crest of insights that appeared over the past 50 years related to hope, recovery, and self-determination. Key to these insights is support: coaches, navigators, mentors, and care coordinators who are in the field, addressing the person's goals, and barriers to goals, as they emerge. Peers can clearly learn the interpersonal and instrumental skills of support. In fact, their learned experience may give them special skills and insight into this supportiveness. This book is a deep review into both the conceptual and empirical elements of peer support services"--
