Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Psychological Interventions for Psychosis written by Juan Antonio Díaz-Garrido and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-27 with total page 807 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows how psychological and social interventions can help people with psychosis. It brings together both theoretical chapters that contribute to the reconceptualization of psychosis and clinical cases illustrating how contemporary psychotherapeutic intervention models can be applied in the treatment of this mental health condition, with reflections, strategies and practical guidelines demonstrating how these models can inform professional practice in mental healthcare. Chapters brought together in this volume aim to reflect a paradigm shift in psychosis care. They present person-centered models that lead to a way of seeing, understanding and treating psychosis that is very different from the traditional biomedical model. Current authors and approaches are revolutionizing an outdated model trapped in purely pharmacological actions and tautological explanations of a biological nature, where symptom control is the basic and fundamental form of approach, and in which psychotherapeutic actions take second place as subsidiary to the former. Approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Acceptance and Recovery Therapy by Levels, Open Dialogue, Compassion-Centered Therapy or the Hearing Voices movement, to name but a few of those presented in this book, represent a journey of self-knowledge and learning for those recovering from psychosis, and have an intense transformative potential for the therapeutic team. The fundamental principle that guides this book is to share models belonging to psychology that aim at personal development while respecting the needs, values and goals of each person, and that can be adopted by any professional or student of clinical psychology, psychiatry, nursing, social work or any other discipline searching for more humanistic approaches to treat psychosis.
Download or read book Functional Analytic Psychotherapy written by Amanda Muñoz-Martínez and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-11-26 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following in the steps of the first edition, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy: Distinctive Features, 2nd Edition, provides a history, context, and building blocks for a behavior therapist to incorporate Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP) into their work. This new volume updates material based upon research that has occurred since the first edition, as well as philosophical and theoretical shifts in behavior therapy, such as an emphasis on FAP as a process-based therapy. Each FAP principle is presented in terms of its intended purpose and is clearly linked to the underlying theory, providing clinicians with a straightforward guide for when and how to apply each technique. Practical tips have been added to aid in case conceptualization and the integration of a FAP framework into other process-based, behavioral conceptualizations. The added breadth and depth also emphasize FAP’s unique role in meeting the needs of diverse and marginalized people and applying FAP across diverse settings. This book will be an important read for any student, trainee, or CBT practitioner.

Download or read book The Practice of Functional Analytic Psychotherapy written by Jonathan W. Kanter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-14 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the earliest years of its development, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP) has been hailed for its clinical innovation and transformative power with clients across the range of disorders. Building on the foundations of their earlier volumes about this versatile therapy, the editors of The Practice of Functional Analytic Psychotherapy bring together noted clinicians and researchers to explain in depth how FAP can be used in conjunction with a broad spectrum of therapeutic approaches, and with diverse client populations. The hallmarks of the method, including therapist sensitivity and responding to client behavior in the moment, courage, mindfulness, acceptance, and egalitarianism, inform a wide array of interventions and strategies, among them: Integrating FAP with other treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, behavioral activation, psychodynamic therapies, and feminist therapies. Applying FAP across cultures, nationalities, and ethnicities. Employing FAP with couples. Increasing sensitivity to and effectiveness with sexual minority clients. Modifying FAP for developmentally appropriate use with adolescents. Enhancing a team approach with severely mentally ill patients in institutional settings. Strengthening the power of interpersonal process groups. As a new tool or an enhancement to current practice, these applications of FAP will give therapists an empowering complement to their work. The Practice of Functional Analytic Psychotherapy points to compelling directions in personal growth and change—on both sides of the therapeutic bond.

Download or read book Tratando con Psicoterapia Anal tica Funcional written by Luis Valero Aguayo and published by Ediciones Pirámide. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Harm Reduction Psychotherapy written by Andrew Tatarsky and published by Jason Aronson. This book was released on 2007-06-10 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ground-breaking volume provides readers with both an overview of harm reduction therapy and a series of ten case studies, treated by different therapists, that vividly illustrate this treatment approach with a wide variety of clients. Harm reduction is a framework for helping drug and alcohol users who cannot or will not stop completely—the majority of users—reduce the harmful consequences of use. Harm reduction accepts that abstinence may be the best outcome for many but relaxes the emphasis on abstinence as the only acceptable goal and criterion of success. Instead, smaller incremental changes in the direction of reduced harmfulness of drug use are accepted. This book will show how these simple changes in emphasis and expectation have dramatic implications for improving the effectiveness of psychotherapy in many ways. From the Foreword by Alan Marlatt, Ph.D.: “This ground-breaking volume provides readers with both an overview of harm reduction therapy and a series of ten case studies, treated by different therapists, that vividly illustrate this treatment approach with a wide variety of clients. In his introduction, Andrew Tatarsky describes harm reduction as a new paradigm for treating drug and alcohol problems. Some would say that harm reduction embraces a paradigm shift in addiction treatment, as it has moved the field beyond the traditional abstinence-only focus typically associated with the disease model and the ideology of the twelve-step approach. Others may conclude that the move toward harm reduction represents an integration of what Dr. Tatarsky describes as the “basic principles of good clinical practice” into the treatment of addictive behaviors. “Changing addiction behavior is often a complex and complicated process for both client and therapist. What seems to work best is the development of a strong therapeutic alliance, the right fit between the client and treatment provider. The role of the harm reduction therapist is closer to that of a guide, someone who can provide support an
Download or read book Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Smoking Cessation written by Kenneth A. Perkins and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practitioners helping smokers to quit can be more effective by learning key therapeutic techniques aimed at increasing any smoker’s chances of success. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Smoking Cessation is a valuable guidebook to an empirically based CBT approach to smoking cessation that has been shown to be effective with or without the use of medications. This approach emphasizes techniques for enhancing the smoker’s motivation and confidence to quit, and teaching the smoker steps for preparing to quit, coping with the difficulties that emerge after quitting, and transitioning to become a long term nonsmoker. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Smoking Cessation offers the fundamental counseling strategies and interventions that have been established, researched, and refined over the past decade. This program outlines essential components that should be included in the treatment of any smoker, as well as steps to take when faced with smokers likely to have particular difficulty quitting. Unique to this volume is the inclusion of a specifically tailored CBT model designed to address weight gain concerns in the smoker. Perkins, Conklin, and Levine are leading researchers on effective smoking cessation intervention for those concerned about the potential gain in weight that accompanies quitting, and offer a flexible approach that allows the practitioner to tailor interventions to each individual. An invaluable addition to any health professional’s repertoire, the treatment model presented in this book provides practitioners with the tools necessary to help their clients to quit smoking.

Download or read book Ethics for Behavior Analysts written by Jon Bailey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-04-21 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behavior analysis, a rapidly growing profession, began with the use and application of conditioning and learning techniques to modify the behavior of children or adults presenting severe management problems, often because of developmental disabilities. Now behavior analysts work in a variety of settings, from clinics and schools to workplaces. Especially since their practice often involves aversive stimuli or punishment, they confront many special ethical challenges. Recently, the Behavior Analysis Certification Board codified a set of ten fundamental ethical guidelines to be followed by all behavior analysts and understood by all students and trainees seeking certification. This book shows readers how to follow the BACB guidelines in action. The authors first describe core ethical principles and then explain each guideline in detail, in easily comprehensible, everyday language. The text is richly illuminated by more than a hundred vivid case scenarios about which the authors pose, and later answer questions for readers. Useful appendices include the BACB Guidelines, an index to them, practice scenarios, and suggested further reading. Practitioners, instructors, supervisors, students, and trainees alike will welcome this invaluable new aid to professional development.
