Book Pseudochaotic Kicked Oscillators

Download or read book Pseudochaotic Kicked Oscillators written by John H. Lowenstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Pseudochaotic Kicked Oscillators: Renormalization, Symbolic Dynamics, and Transport" presents recent developments in pseudochaos, which is concerned with complex branching behaviors of dynamical systems at the interface between orderly and chaotic motion. Pseudochaos is characterized by the trapping of orbits in the vicinity of self-similar hierarchies of islands of stability, producing phase-space displacements which increase asymptotically as a power of time. This monograph is a thorough, self-contained investigation of a simple one-dimensional model (a kicked harmonic oscillator) which exhibits pseudochaos in its purest form. It is intended for graduate students and researchers in physics and applied mathematics, as well as specialists in nonlinear dynamics. Dr. John H. Lowenstein is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics at New York University, USA.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a collection of essays written in honor of Wolfhart Zimmermann''s 80th birthday, most of them based on talks presented at a symposium in his honor. The book shows the unifying force of a subject (Quantum Field Theory) and a person (Zimmermann). It ranges from fundamental questions in quantum physics over applications to particle physics and noncommutative geometry to the latest developments in many body theory and dynamical systems. These key ideas are elucidated by worldwide-recognized experts including Faddeev, Becchi, Buchholz, Lowenstein and Salmhofer.Readers seeking examples on how a subject has evolved, diversified and deepened over the course of several decades and how a single person can influence this process can find here a perfect illustration. Altogether, readers are treated to a high-brow intellectual adventure.

Book Nonlinear Excitations in Biomolecules

Download or read book Nonlinear Excitations in Biomolecules written by Michel Peyrard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few years, hopes have emerged that simple concepts could perhaps explain the extremely complicated biomolecular processes which are known to a greater and greater accuracy thanks to the extraordinary progress of biology. In parallel, powerful methods in physics, especially nonlinearity and cooperative effects, have been developed. They apply especially to biological phenomena and can explain coherent excitations with remarkable properties. This book provides a pedagogical introduction to the theory of nonlinear excitations and solitons in a biological environment, and also to the structure and function of biomolecules as well as energy and charge transport in biophysics.

Book Predictability of Chaotic Dynamics

Download or read book Predictability of Chaotic Dynamics written by Juan C. Vallejo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-25 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is primarily concerned with the computational aspects of predictability of dynamical systems - in particular those where observations, modeling and computation are strongly interdependent. Unlike with physical systems under control in laboratories, in astronomy it is uncommon to have the possibility of altering the key parameters of the studied objects. Therefore, the numerical simulations offer an essential tool for analysing these systems, and their reliability is of ever-increasing interest and importance. In this interdisciplinary scenario, the underlying physics provide the simulated models, nonlinear dynamics provides their chaoticity and instability properties, and the computer sciences provide the actual numerical implementation. This book introduces and explores precisely this link between the models and their predictability characterization based on concepts derived from the field of nonlinear dynamics, with a focus on the strong sensitivity to initial conditions and the use of Lyapunov exponents to characterize this sensitivity. This method is illustrated using several well-known continuous dynamical systems, such as the Contopoulos, Hénon-Heiles and Rössler systems. This second edition revises and significantly enlarges the material of the first edition by providing new entry points for discussing new predictability issues on a variety of areas such as machine decision-making, partial differential equations or the analysis of attractors and basins. Finally, the parts of the book devoted to the application of these ideas to astronomy have been greatly enlarged, by first presenting some basics aspects of predictability in astronomy and then by expanding these ideas to a detailed analysis of a galactic potential.

Book Frontiers of Nano Optoelectronic Systems

Download or read book Frontiers of Nano Optoelectronic Systems written by Lorenzo Pavesi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since their discovery, low dimensional materials have never stopped to intrigue scientists, whether they are physicists, chemists, or biochemists. Investigations of their nature and functions have always been and still are numerous and as soon as a solution is found for a given question, another one is raised. The coupling of nano-materials with photonics, i. e. nano-photonics, has produced a boiling pot of idea, problems, discovery and applications. This statement is abundantly illustrated in the present book. The interest in nano-optoelectronic materials and systems is very widespread, what gives a really international and multicultural flavour to nano-optoelectronic meetings. One of them was organized by our-self in May 2000 in Kiev as a NATO Advanced Research Workshop and EC-Spring School. The arrival of the new millennium provides an obvious transition point at which many aspects of nano-science and nano-engineering of nano photonic systems can be assessed with respect to the research progresses made in the pre ceding decades and to the challenges that lie ahead in the coming decades. This book was planed to mark this with the objective of presenting a collection of papers from experts, which provide broad perspectives on the state-of-the-art in the various disciplines of nano science and nano-engineering and on the directions for future research.

Book Geography of Order and Chaos in Mechanics

Download or read book Geography of Order and Chaos in Mechanics written by Bruno Cordani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-29 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This original monograph aims to explore the dynamics in the particular but very important and significant case of quasi-integrable Hamiltonian systems, or integrable systems slightly perturbed by other forces. With both analytic and numerical methods, the book studies several of these systems—including for example the hydrogen atom or the solar system, with the associated Arnold web—through modern tools such as the frequency modified fourier transform, wavelets, and the frequency modulation indicator. Meanwhile, it draws heavily on the more standard KAM and Nekhoroshev theorems. Geography of Order and Chaos in Mechanics will be a valuable resource for professional researchers and certain advanced undergraduate students in mathematics and physics, but mostly will be an exceptional reference for Ph.D. students with an interest in perturbation theory.

Book Many Body Quantum Chaos

Download or read book Many Body Quantum Chaos written by Sandro Wimberger and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2020-10-02 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of chaos in many-body quantum systems has a long history, going back to Wigner's simple models for heavy nuclei. Quantum chaos is being investigated in a broad variety of experimental platforms such as heavy nuclei, driven (few-electron) atoms, ultracold quantum gases, and photonic or microwave realizations. Quantum chaos plays a new and important role in many branches of physics, from condensed matter problems of many-body localization, including thermalization studies in closed and open quantum systems, and the question of dynamical stability relevant for quantum information and quantum simulation. This Special Issue and its related book address theories and experiments, methods from classical chaos, semiclassics, and random matrix theory, as well as many-body condensed matter physics. It is dedicated to Prof. Shmuel Fishman, who was one of the major representatives of the field over almost four decades, who passed away in 2019.
