Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psalm 15 begins with two related questions: LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? (v. 1). These are questions worthy of our consideration as Christian business professionals seeking to integrate our faith and our work. The psalmist answers the questions with the following description: He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the LORD, who keeps his oath even when it hurts, who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken (vv. 2-5, NIV). Using this psalm as a basis, Southwest Baptist University's College of Business and Computer Science is devoted to educating Psalm 15 professionals, who exemplify traits including integrity, service, respect, charity, faithfulness, truthfulness, humility, and perseverance. The devotions in this small volume draw readers' attention to the need for believers to exemplify such character traits. Contributions from the SBU faculty and administration remind us of the necessity to approach life and work with a biblical worldview. This volume is an abbreviated version of another Resource Publications book, A Noble Calling: Devotions and Essays for Business Professionals, also available from Wipf and Stock Publishers (www.wipfandstock.com).

This book was released on 2014-06-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using Coverdale's translation of the Psalms from the Book of Common Prayer, the very best of Anglican chant is married to texts that have been used to sing the transcendent glory of God for three thousand years. The Psalms are ruthlessly honest in their portrayal of conflicting human emotions, and many psalters have excised the verses that speak of vengeance, hatred and anger. Acknowledging that these emotions are also part of human experience, the Anglican Psalter retains this material, to be included or omitted as local preference or the occasion dictates. Includes work by renowned composers past and present including Elgar, Parry, Stanford, Stainer, Wesley, Malcolm Archer, David Willcocks, John Barnard, and many more.

Book The Substance of Psalm 24

    Book Details:
  • Author : Philip Sumpter
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2015-02-26
  • ISBN : 0567656160

Download or read book The Substance of Psalm 24 written by Philip Sumpter and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contributes to the theory and practice of Biblical interpretation by engaging in an interpretation of Psalm 24 inspired by a particular understanding of Brevard Childs' “canonical approach”: an understanding centred on the concept of “theological substance.” Sumpter shows how the literary, historical, and theological dimensions of Psalm 24 cohere into a single vision by reading the text according to the previously discussed dialectic. An initial “synchronic” analysis of the psalm's poetic structure related to a “diachronic” reconstruction of the tradition history that lead to the final form. The question is then posed concerning the primary forces at work in this history of composition, a question which leads to reflection on the Trinity, first in se and then pro nobis. This latter dimension takes us back to the text, as its “Davidic” nature is further analysed in relation to the books of Samuel, the Psalter, and Isaiah. Finally, Patristic exegesis is turned to for further stimulation concerning the mysterious subject matter of the text.

Download or read book Psalm 15 God s Holy Hill written by Bobby Romo and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-11-26 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psalm 15:1 LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill Psalm 15 is a call to check our heart and behavior and motives as we come before God with relation in mind. This Psalm educates the believer that desires a sincere intimate relationship with God. This is a relationship that goes beyond a weekly meeting and goes deeper into the all seeing presence of a Holy God. LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill This question demands a deeper questioning of ourselves before we respond with what we expect to be the obvious answer. It has simply been assumed by many that the holy hill is equivalent to the assembly of the saints or more likely, the church. Could it be there is a distinction to be found between the church and the place the psalmist is speaking of? Could it be that the psalmist is referring to another place many are yet to discover? The investigation of this verse might seem puzzling if we assume all believers automatically qualify to dwell on God's holy hill and abide in His tabernacle. As we examine the whole content of Psalms 15 it will become clear the real intent of this Psalm is to challenge us to draw a line in the proverbial sand in our lives. We are confronted to draw a line that will distinguish us as a people who not only claim to love God but a people who truly desire to know Him. Could it be that the psalmist raises the question because he did not find this to be the norm? Maybe at the time when this psalm was penned there was no recognized move among the people of God that would find them coming to and remaining in the presence of the Lord. This is a question that the Spirit of God confronts us with today.

Download or read book Expository Parenting written by Josh Niemi and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-10-08 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is much to be said for men and women who courageously evangelize on college campuses, in prisons, and near shopping centers. After all, the Bible indicates that disciples are primarily made by going out to meet lost people where they are. But make no mistake about it: if you're a parent, The Great Commission has come to you-in a bassinet, a booster seat, or a bunk-bed. While other parenting philosophies rely on "what seems to work" (i.e. pragmatism), "what we've always done" (i.e. traditionalism), or "what's right for us" (i.e. relativism), a better perspective is founded upon a biblical approach: teaching the full counsel of God and allowing Scripture to do its work in a child's heart. How do we accomplish this? We must examine the Bible's instructions for pastors, and then apply those principles in the home. In other words, just as the preacher must be committed to expository preaching, so too must the parent be committed to expository parenting.

Book The Sacredness of Questioning Everything

Download or read book The Sacredness of Questioning Everything written by David Dark and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-03-24 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The freedom to question—asking and being asked—is an indispensable and sacred practice that is absolutely vital to the health of our communities.According to author David Dark, when religion won’t tolerate questions, objections, or differences of opinion, and when it only brings to the table threats of excommunication, violence, and hellfire, it does not allow people to discover for themselves what they truly believe. The God of the Bible not only encourages questions; the God of the Bible demands them. If that were not so, we wouldn’t live in a world of such rich, God-given complexity in which wide-eyed wonder is part and parcel of the human condition. Dark contends that it’s OK to question life, the Bible, faith, the media, emotions, language, government—everything. God has nothing to hide. And neither should people of faith. The Sacredness of Questioning offers a wide-ranging, insightful, and often entertaining discussion that draws on a variety of sources, including religious texts and popular culture. It is a book that readers will likely cherish—and recommend—for years to come.
