Book A Study of the Emergence and Early Development of Selected Protestant Chinese Churches in the Philippines

Download or read book A Study of the Emergence and Early Development of Selected Protestant Chinese Churches in the Philippines written by Jean Uy Uayan and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-30 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr Jean Uayan comprehensively weaves the story of six Protestant Chinese churches in the Philippines into the local history of their individual settings in this important study. Uncovering new insight and historical information from extensive primary and secondary sources, Uayan presents a rich and previously unacknowledged heritage and support from four American mission organisations during the US occupation from 1898–1946. The seeds sown amongst Chinese communities across the Philippines resulted in indigenous churches that took differing journeys to full independence and now are also bearing fruit in missionary activity in South Fujian, China. This book is an important contribution towards a global church history acknowledging the work of the Holy Spirit establishing and building up the church of Jesus Christ among the nations.

Book Frontiers in the Study of Ancient Plant Remains

Download or read book Frontiers in the Study of Ancient Plant Remains written by and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-16 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last two decades, plant biology has developed rapidly, ranging from molecular genetics, cell biology, and physiology to ecology and evolutionary issues, both for economic species and species unrelated to humans. These topics have received intensive attention, however, there is still a large gap in the study of plant biology in prehistoric times, especially those closely related to humans. The identification of plant species in archaeological sites plays an important role in exploring the paleoenvironment, the origin and spread of agriculture, and the relationship between humans and nature. In this research topic, we welcome progress in all aspects of ancient plant fossil research, especially phytoliths, starches, pollen and carbonized seeds, from the mechanisms of plant fossil formation to their phytosystematics, and the associated paleoecology and paleoenvironment.

Book The History and Cultural Heritage of Chinese Calligraphy Printing and Library Work

Download or read book The History and Cultural Heritage of Chinese Calligraphy Printing and Library Work written by Susan M. Allen and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2010-03-26 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In China the tradition of a book society is longer than anywhere else in the world. Chinese paper making, calligraphy and woodblock printing date from very early ages, but have for a very long time remained almost unknown to the Western world. At the IFLA satellite meeting “Chinese Written and Printed Cultural Heritage and Library Work” in Hangzhou in 2006 the richness of present day book historical research and library activities in China has been presented by more than sixty papers. This fine selection reflects the width and depth of this extremely important and immense Chinese heritage.

Book Dynamic Interpretation of Early Cities in Ancient China

Download or read book Dynamic Interpretation of Early Cities in Ancient China written by Hong Xu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-14 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an archaeological study on China’s ancient capitals. Using abundant illustrations of ancient capital sites, it verifies the archaeological discoveries with documentary records. The author introduces the dynamical interpretation of each ancient capital to the interpretation of the entire development history of China's ancient capitals. The book points out that for most of the almost 2000 years from the earliest Erlitou (二里头)to the Ye city (邺城), there was an era where ancient capitals didn’t have outer enclosures due to factors such as the strong national power, the military and diplomatic advantage, the complexity of the residents, and the natural conditions. Thus an era of “the huge ancient capitals without guards” lasting for over 1000 years formed. The concept that “China’s ancient capitals don’t have outer enclosures” presented in the book questions the traditional view that “every settlement has walled enclosures”. Combining science with theory, it offers researchers of history a clear understanding of the development process of China’s ancient capitals.

Book Naming and Mapping the Gods in the Ancient Mediterranean

Download or read book Naming and Mapping the Gods in the Ancient Mediterranean written by Thomas Galoppin and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-12-31 with total page 1080 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ancient religions are definitely complex systems of gods, which resist our understanding. Divine names provide fundamental keys to gain access to the multiples ways gods were conceived, characterized, and organized. Among the names given to the gods many of them refer to spaces: cities, landscapes, sanctuaries, houses, cosmic elements. They reflect mental maps which need to be explored in order to gain new knowledge on both the structure of the pantheons and the human agency in the cultic dimension. By considering the intersection between naming and mapping, this book opens up new perspectives on how tradition and innovation, appropriation and creation play a role in the making of polytheistic and monotheistic religions. Far from being confined to sanctuaries, in fact, gods dwell in human environments in multiple ways. They move into imaginary spaces and explore the cosmos. By proposing a new and interdiciplinary angle of approach, which involves texts, images, spatial and archeaeological data, this book sheds light on ritual practices and representations of gods in the whole Mediterranean, from Italy to Mesopotamia, from Greece to North Africa and Egypt. Names and spaces enable to better define, differentiate, and connect gods.

Book Ancient Metallurgy in the USSR

Download or read book Ancient Metallurgy in the USSR written by Evgenil Nikolaevich Chernykh and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1992-12-03 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the leading Soviet archaeologists describes the development of ancient mining and metallurgy in the northern half of Eurasia. While the first traces of metallurgical activity date from between the seventh and the sixth millennium BC, significant mining developed only in the fifth millennium BC, in the northern Balkans and Carpathians. Metal producing centres were in these northern 'barbarian peripheral' regions rather than in the Near East and Asia Minor, areas traditionally associated with early classical civilization. Professor Chernykh describes successive periods of metallurgical activity in different regions: the Carpatho-Balkan Metallurgical Province of the Copper Age: the Circumpontic of the Early and Middle Bronze Age: and the Eurasian, European Caucasian, Central Asian and Irano-Afghan of the Late Bronze Age. He provides detailed information about the different groups of copper and bronze artefacts, their chemical composition, and their dispersion in time and space. He analyses the international metallurgical trade and division of labour and, finally, the collapse of the sociocultural systems in these metallurgical centres in the first millennium BC.
