Download or read book Evolving from the Cocoon written by Deon L. Candia and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2020-04-15 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to “Evolving from the Cocoon” A Memoir of Learning from my Past. In this book I offer accurate portions of my life that has assisted me in the transformation of becoming the best version of me possible. Growing up I was always that quiet-shy kid. I never truly felt comfortable asking questions because I wanted everyone to like me. To avoid conflict and confrontation, I learned to keep to myself. By doing so, I often found myself depressed because I couldn’t figure out why my life seemed to be so abnormal and unfulfilling. Growing older, that one-word question kept finding a way to repeat itself in my head over and over...WHY??? For years that question burned in my heart especially as I entered adulthood. Then it happened! The answer finally hit me! “Your pain may be someone else’s gain!” I thought to myself, “WOW!” The things that troubled me in the past are to be shared with others. My bad decisions and bloopers were indeed blessings. All the mishaps and not so good experiences in my life were to serve as inspiration and encouragement to people like me. I had to gain my voice so that eventually I could be a voice for others. No longer limited by the cocoon, I discovered I can fly high and gracefully like the butterfly.

Book Pro Football s Most Passionate Fans

Download or read book Pro Football s Most Passionate Fans written by Harvey " Steeler" Aronson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professional football is the most popular sport in the United States today. With so many famous players from the past and present, some of whom achieved notoriety because of a persona they created, there are fans who have also made a name for themselves by either their work and loyalty for their team, or by creating an alter ego with respect to how they cheer or support their team. Some have incredibly wild and outrageous outfits. On game days, some of these diehard fans take longer to get themselves ready for games than the players they cheer for! The face paint, the outrageous outfits, the chants and cheers, and the attention to detail are what make these fans unique. During football season, these diehard fans can be seen each weekend as they showcase themselves in support of their team in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers worldwide. In 1998, Visa sponsored a national contest to find the wildest, most loyal, and most intriguing fans for each team in the league. The award was entitled, The Visa Hall of Fans Award as fans were chosen from each team based on their submitted essays and photos. Contestants had to explain why they should represent their respective team in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. At the time, a special wing in the Hall was created to honor these diehard fans. Visa awarded plaques to the winners -- originally at the Hall, and later in front of the hometown fans at each team s stadium. The Hall of Fame displayed the plaques for a year until the new class of fans was selected and their plaques were displayed. At that point, the prior year s winners had their names placed on a permanent wall plaque in the Hall of Fans wing of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Since the days of the original Visa promotion, this group of honorees has carried on the tradition of recognizing ultimate fans each year. Some of the fans are easily recognizable by their outfits and their nicknames. Sadly, some have passed on. This book profiles and showcases many of those fans who were honored by Visa at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As you read through the book, you will undoubtedly recognize many of these famous fans. But for those fans who are not so easily recognized as some, this book s aim is to illustrate that all of the fans who were honored by Visa possess as much passion, loyalty and enthusiasm as the next. So when you watch Pro Football this season and always, keep this book handy and when the cameras pan the NFL stadiums, see how many faces you can spot from the group that calls themselves .. Pro Football s Most Passionate Fans!

Book Living Life as a Godly Champion

Download or read book Living Life as a Godly Champion written by Dr. H. Wesley Dykes and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God gave me the concept of "godly champion" several years ago and directed me to write this book. Initially I thought that the motivating factor behind writing this book was to leave a reminder of the many discussions held and lessons taught to my children over the years. However, in time the Lord made it clear to me that this book was also meant to be shared with His chosen people. A champion, as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary, is "one who shows marked superiority." As children of the almighty God, we are markedly superior because of the acceptance, belief, and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. God repeatedly states throughout the Bible that He would never leave us nor forsake us. God ensures the victory for us in every circumstance, situation, challenge, or obstacle. He works out everything for our good because we love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). This is what we can expect from God in our godly champion partnership. What God expects or demands from us is our love, worship, obedience, trust, and devotion to Him only. Being a champion in any regard requires diligent work. Therefore, godly champions must commit to praying continually, reading and studying the Bible consistently, worshiping Him daily, and trusting and obeying Him always. We as God's children represent Him every second of the day, whether we are in the confines of our homes or at a public/corporate venue. He expects us to represent Him honorably, diligently, zealously, courageously, and with great swag. That's right, swag! I wholeheartedly believe God wants us to represent Him proudly with a colorful, spirited style. Although we encounter trials, tribulations, and setbacks, we adapt, adjust, and overcome all obstacles because of the strength and grit afforded to us by the indwelling Holy Spirit. This embodies the persona of a godly champion. We are victorious!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terry thought that his life would change drastically when he became a Christian, and it did, but not in the way that he thought it would. Instead of life being easier, it became much harder, each day filled with temptations that were challenges to his newfound faith. His feelings about himself and those around him intensified, and when he felt himself sliding back into his old habits, his closest friends, Lolly and Nick, assured him that they were always there to support him, urged him not to lose his faith, and reminded that God would always give him the strength and wisdom to handle any problem. He wasn't so sure about that when his girlfriend Jenny came back from New York City after trying out for the New York Ballet and would no longer talk to him. After her trip to New York, Jenny too was struggling with her faith and began to question whether or not God even existed. She shut herself off from those around her, began to hate her father, and felt hopelessly lost. It was only through her friend, Lolly, that she again began to see things more clearly. But Terry continued to struggle, and it was only when the lives of all his friends had been threatened and he seemed to have lost everything did he come to know God and to understand his true purpose.

Book The Team the Titans Remember

Download or read book The Team the Titans Remember written by Mark A. O'Connell and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2000, Walt Disney Pictures released the film Remember the Titans which stirred the hearts of many but falsely depicted the Titans of T.C. Williams playing their arch-rival, George C. Marshall, in a nail-biter of a championship football game decided on the last play in a place called Roanoke Stadium. Wrong! The Titans played a small and scrappy bunch of players from Salem known as the Wolverines of Andrew Lewis High in the historic Victory Stadium of Roanoke. Salem native Mark A. O’Connell sets the record straight for all time in this book which tells the true story of the championship game and also links the 1971 Andrew Lewis High “Wolverines” to a lasting-legacy which had begun in 1962 under legendary head Coach Eddie Joyce. Now you can read the true—and unaltered—story. *** Now this from Coach Foster: Andrew Lewis, a small southwest Virginia school located in Salem and nicknamed the Wolverines, played—and won—against some of the largest schools in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Tennessee. Today, these schools would be classified in Virginia as 6A, the largest of all six classifications. During the 1971 season, Andrew Lewis played 7 schools that had student enrollments over 2,000 while Lewis’s enrollment was only 975 students. Lewis was 12-1 that year, its only loss to T.C. Williams (Remember the Titans Game) which had an enrollment of 5,000 students. Between 1962 and 1971, Andrew Lewis won 2 state championships (‘62,’64) and was runner-up 3 times (‘66,’67 and ‘71) as a member of the largest classification in Virginia. Over that span of time—considered as “the best years of Coach Joyce”—the Wolverines compiled a record of 88 wins, 15 losses and 2 ties—Dale Foster.

Book The Red Fox

Download or read book The Red Fox written by Ben Collins and published by Slattery Media Group. This book was released on 2008 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Norm Smith is arguably the greatest Australian Football coach in history. Smith - who, in 1996, was selected as the coach of the Australian Football League's Team of the Century - led the Melbourne Demons to a staggering six premierships from 1955 to 1964. When it came to football, he was a hard man, brutally honest to his players and an utterly ruthless and fearsome disciplinarian, but this was offset by a gentler, charitable side of his nature which was rarely seen in public. This is his story, and secondarily that of his older brother and fellow coach Len Smith, from their childhood in tough, working-class Northcote during the Depression; Norm as a childhood supporter of Collingwood, the club he would conquer many times over as a man; through his distinguished playing career at Melbourne where he built a reputation as the most unselfish player in the game; his first coaching job at Fitzroy; his triumphant reign at Melbourne, detailing his relationship with his ‘foster son' Ron Barassi, his friendly coaching rivalry with his brother, and his controversial sacking and reinstatement in 1965; to his last coaching job at South Melbourne, which in 1970 he lifted to its first finals series in 25 years, and culminating in his premature death at the age of 57

Book Nitschke

Download or read book Nitschke written by Edward Gruver and published by Taylor Trade Publishing. This book was released on 2004-07-23 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With his no-nonsense, no-frills style of play, Hall of Fame middle linebacker Ray Nitschke personified the Lombardi era of the Green Bay Packers. Called the hardest hitter in NFL history by many football historians and fellow players, #66 instilled fear in opponents with his crushing blows, loudmouth taunting and trademark, toothless sneer. Drafted by Green Bay in the third round in 1958, Nitschke eventually went on to MVP honors in 1962, Pro-Bowl selection in 1964 and All-Pro selections in 1964, '65 and '66 playing in 190 games over his 15-year career, the second most in Green Bay history. Not only does Nitschke describe impressive statistics and football feats; it provides an intimate look into the life of a man who conquered his own emotional demons with alcohol abuse and aggression. Through interviews and first-hand accounts by players, coaches, journalists and friends, we find that Nitschke, the on-field ogre, was a gentleman and dedicated family man. As the product of a struggling blue-collar, Midwestern upbringing, Nitschke made himself available to football lovers and Green Bay fans of all ages, active in the community until his death in 1998. Nitschke accurately paints the picture of an "everyman," despite-all-odds football player who rose to inhuman heights in the game and forever changed the course of defensive denomination and player intensity in the NFL.
